SAG Salutes James Earl Jones With Lifetime Award

SAG salutes James Earl Jones with Lifetime award.
The man who gave voice to Star Wars‘ legendary villain Darth Vader is being recognized for his own legendary acting career. James Earl Jones will receive the Screen Actors Guild’s (SAG) Lifetime Achievement award at next year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards. “James Earl Jones’ distinguished career on stage, in film, on television, in commercials and as a vocal presence without peer commands our admiration and respect,” says SAG President Alan Rosenberg, who announced the award. “His long and quiet devotion to advancing literacy, the arts and humanities on a national and local scale deserves our appreciation. It is our honor to bestow the Guild’s highest tribute on this extraordinary actor.” Jones’ other notable performances have included roles in Field of Dreams with Kevin Costner. The SAG Awards are set for January 2009.
James Earl Jones…Was the man!!!! He is a symbol of .’BLACK PRIDE’..And style.It is very hard to find an actor with natural talent as.’ THE GREAT JAMES EARL JONES’.
It’s about DAMN TIME!!! This is well overdue. They have been looking over this man for years and not showing any type of honor or praise. I’m glad they choose him not only because he deserves it but because society (white folks) always like to honor black folk when we are dead and gone like an “oh, by the way…” type of thing. Yes they’ve praised Sidney Poitier over and over and over again and thats great, but there other great actors besides him. Now is the time the honor our greats when they are living, not just Mr. Poitier, but other like Delroy Lendo, Avery Brooks, Charles Dutton and numerous other black actors who have done phenomenal works on film, broadway and in the communities as well. They are the ones who paved the way for our acting generation like Will Smith, Jaime Foxx and Don Cheadle to be as great as they are now. I just think we need to start showing a little more respect, stop focusing who has the most bling and start focusing on REAL TALENT.

It’s about time they honored him and al of the great black actors. Cicely Tyson is another great black actress. James Earl Jones is a phenomonal actor. I love to hear him talk.
I have loved him ever since I saw him in Claudine as a little girl!!!
He’s one of the best African American actors we have!!
Congratulations to Mr. Jones!! He has had a long and distinguished career on Broadway in the “Great White Hope,” August Wilson’s “Fences” and most recently the revival of Tennessee Williams’ “Cat on Hot Tin Roof.” The Screen Actors’ Guild Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes his long list of signature performances in movies, including Star Wars’ “Darth Vader” and the film versin of “The Great White Hope.” He is a memorable actor.
