Second Black Coach Wins Super Bowl
February 2nd, 2009
This truly is the year of the African American. All within a few weeks, a Black man became president, two Black women reigned supreme at the Australian Open, and even the Republican Party got a brother to lead them into the future. And now – just in time to ensure that Black History Month got off to an amazing start – the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Mike Tomlin, became only the second Black head coach in U.S. history to win the Super Bowl, leading his team to an exciting, come-from-behind 27-23 win over the high-octane Arizona Cardinals. Read the rest here.
Leave your comments for Mike Tomlin, Santonio Holmes and the rest of the Steelers.

Now it we can get a quarterback without a pea brain to win anything , but lets not get our hopes up. Blacks are strong but lack the decision making that a quarterback needs.
THIS IS ABOUT RESPECT !!!!!!!!!!!!! DO A MAN SAY NO TO YOU IF YOU ASK HIM TO COME TO THE WHITEHOUSE TO LOOK AT THE FOOTBALL GAME AND YOU SAY NO. THERE NO RESPECT! ! ! IF A MEN GIVE YOU THE PRESIDENT NO RESPECT! ! ! IF A MEN SAID I HOPE HE FAIL! ! ! ! ! NO RESPECT. WHAT IS THE DECISION OF A MEN TO DO ARE THINK! ! ! THE COACH ,TELL ME IS THERE RESPECT?????? ASK YOUR SELF WHAT GOING ON HERE,? ? ?
Congratulations Mr Mike Tomlin, in my book you are a talented Pittsburgh Steelers coach. You brought it on home. Your team played with much heart and spirit. Thank you for sharing your many talents.
PS: As fair as “lets put away race”, when the whites stop categorizing African Americans as being the first black of everything and trying to convince the world that we are more alike then we are different versus trying to understand our differences, racism will remain unchanged but there is a flip side to it all if we are all willing to take the time to get to know all human culture we can make that change together. What beautiful art that would represent. peace2yourheart
I stuck a football up my butt at half time!!
It’s not a black are a white thing it was by the grace of God
CONGRATULATIONS ON A JOB WELL DONE!!!!!!!!!! THIS SUPERBOWL WAS THE BEST THAT I HAVE EVER WITNESSED. TO COACH TOMLIN, WE ARE EXTREMELY PROUD OF YOU. YOU DESERVE ALL THE GREAT STATEMENTS MADE ABOUT YOU, YOU TRULY REPRESENTED US ALL. TO THE TEAM, YOU FOLLOWED THROUGH LIKE CHAMPS. AGAIN, THANKS FOR THE RUSH, IT WAS GREAT!!!!
“Think about it” has made a very valid, inspiring and POSITIVE point. Black people from day one had always been the receivers of negative talk and blatant racism and throughout the years have been shafted psychologically and economically. These issues were enough to warp anyone’s self-esteem. The atrocities heaped on black people have lasted longer than anyone’s lifetime. How would anyone expect that at this point we would not feel a certain sense of pride when being recognized? We were told for so long how we were not good enough and threatened when we were. We were told that we were not fully human with no specific scientific backing to this claim. History has dealt a serious blow to black people’s mindset all over the world. Many of us experiencing it first hand. It feels good to get that pat on the back, it feels good to be proud. It was a long time coming and if others cannot get on board with it that is their problem and for the folks that claimed that they had nothing to do with slavery, racism etc. that was history it was THEIR history too. The happiness we are experiencing now has been a long time coming and THEY have to deal with it. Trust me when I say that black people have had to deal with negative realities imposed by others just for being black. It is not really about black people being on top, it is about being included like we should have in the first place.
Crime rate is not specifically indicative of black people as some would lead you to believe. It is in all of the races. Would you consider “hangings” a natural part of society? Well It used to be… heck some people still speak of it today just to keep that fear going. Where is our sense of alarm about that?
Look at the positive like this, as opposed to the history, the future is in an attempt to correct itself.
I’m from Pitsburgh and can not be more proud of the Steelers for their Six Super Bowl victory which was by the way fair and square. Both of Holmes’s feet were inbounds and he had control of he ball. The worst call was the Ref. not calling the Warner fumble because his arm was not going forward. My last point is ,since when has race not been a isssue in this country ? If anybody reading this don’t know,I suggest you read an accurate account of this country and remember that just because Preident Obama is in office doesn’t mean racism has been eradicated.
shedawns,
Yet another ignorant white person (you guys are a dime a dozen and always seem to pop up on BET blogs) speaking out against the intellect of an entire race of black people. What fools you are. Can you explain why whites are not smart enough to handle the forecoming hardships of this crumbled economy? Why do whites typically committ suicide when financial times get rough and why are you people not strong enough to weather the storm; why have you no survival instinct or coping mechanism to fall back on? Where is your backbone? American history shows that during the great depression many, many whites committed suicide simply because you were not mentally strong enough to handle the dire financial situation. Research that fact idiot.
Way to go Steelers – history made 10 folds over: your sixth superbowl title ever and two within the past 4 years, a young coach that made all of the other NFL teams think – maybe younger is better. I’m a true Dallas fan but giving my hat off to those Steelers…..
they did ok
Cnongrads! There is no stopping us. Let us continue to move in a positive direction. To my intelligent black people keep up the good work, and hold on to God’s unchanging hand.
Love ya.
For a longtime Dallas Cowboy fan, to even post in here, you’ve got to know that I am so proud of you all. Santonio, thanks for the beautiful game. Coach Tomlin aka Omar Epps lookalike, lol, revel in the moment, then repeat it, [unless the Cowboys are the opponent]. lol
From one champion to another [I have 10 basketball championships myself 7th grade-Division 1],some say, “winning isn’t everything, it’s how you play the game.”
That’s just something that losers and push overs say.
From one Champion to another, we say,
“WINNING IS EVERYTHING, IT’S WHY YOU PLAY THE GAME!”
Great Job and One Love
Great job coach Mike Tomlin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hopefully some day the world will get past this white black stigma. And hopefully people will say that coaches are good regardless of race. Mike Tomlin is a great coach.
Great coaches win big games. Mike Tomlin is one of those coaches!
Mike Tomlin Nfl coach of the Year in my opinion.
I’m Proud to be Black. I’m Proud to be from Pittsburgh. And I’m DAMN PROUD of my Steelers. Black or White, Young or Old, Tomlin has done a REMARKABLE job as second year head coach. He is a great upgrade to the Steeler organization. I agree that it would nice not to label him as a BLACK coach. But in reality, he is. We’ve come a long way as race and that’s nothing to be ashamed of. I’m Proud. We all should be. My president is black and my head coach is black.
Truely this is a Blessing from God, for us as Blacks to see such a day as this day, another BLACK MAN wining the Super Bowl right after a BLACK MAN become the 44th President of the United States of America. This is such an exciting time in my life to be a part of such a great time in Black’s history right at the time to celebrate BLACK HISTORY. Mr. Tomlin, CONGRAULATIONS to you and the Steelers Organization for a job well done. May God forever Bless and keep you all in his care.
GO STEELERS
