Secret Service Supervisors Cracked Racist Jokes

For years, African-American agents in the Secret Service complained that racism was rampant and that supervisors not only ignored racist incidents but often participated. In recent weeks, when a noose was found in a breakroom used by a Black agent at the Secret Service training facility in Beltsville , Md. , it added new fuel into a longstanding investigation into charges of racial discrimination at the agency. In a federal court filing on Friday, attorneys for 10 African-American Secret Service agents disclosed e-mails shared by supervisors that demeaned Blacks and even joked about assassinating the Rev. Jesse Jackson, whom they refer to as “the Righteous Reverend.” In other e-mails, they joke about interracial sex and mock Black slang in talk of a “Harlem Spelling Bee.” The 10 e-mails included in the filing, written between 2003 and 2005, were generated by 20 Secret Service supervisors, The New York Times reports. The Black agents filed a job discrimination suit, arguing that they were denied promotions and forced to work in a hostile environment, but the case has dragged on since 2000. Secret Service spokesman Eric Zahren told the Times, “We are deeply disappointed by any communication or action on the part of our employees that exhibits racial or other insensitivity.” He added that the inspector general at the Department of Homeland Security had been notified. E. Desmond Hogan, who represents the Black agents, told the newspaper that the agents were “shocked but not surprised by the late production of significant evidence of racism at high levels in the Secret Service.” Said Hogan, “The government’s delay follows a pattern of the Secret Service stonewalling plaintiffs and ignoring court orders, depriving African-American agents of the fundamental evidence of race discrimination that is key to their claims.” Are you surprised about the charges within a federal law enforcement agency?

Whoever wrote, this means “Obama for President” for me should not be basing that decision on this one issue. You should really take time to research what each candidates voting record is in addition to what they believe or do not believe in. I hate to see our people cast votes for individuals solely based on their race or political party.
I am saddened to learn of such in the agency that is dedicated to protect the person who occupies highest office in the land. I am not surprised, because white on black discrimination is part of our country’s heritage.

Secret Service ain’t what it used to be.
USA ain’t what it used to be. Not that is ever was really what it could be.
Last 8 years, isn’t what it should have been.
Hope the next 4 years, is what it should be. Not that we aren’t trying, but the system sure is tricky.
All it takes is people using IT to develop grass roots and communities.
I would hope that Obama keeps expanding open source IT and the internet.

Even the ‘royalty’ and everybody down the ‘ladder’ in USA get so much crap flung at them, you’d think everybody in USA is a dirty jerk. Then again, real power is a dirty business, not personally driven, but all too personal when it is coming your way. Good to keep in mind, when seeking unity and compromises that might improve this country.
The charges of racism are false. The blacks in the SS have more privileges than the white agents and more often than not, get promoted into positions that they are not qualified to handle,ie, time on the job, training etc.
The women and black agents in the SS have their own union/association however the white agents are not allowed.
I can say factually(30+ years) that there is reverse discrimination in the SS.
this whole election was completely bogus. black people try to say whites are racist yet the only reason they voted for obama is because he’s black. racism is a very clear two was street. with everything that comes with it, putting someone’s troubles off on other people because they’re being “oppressed” is completely arbitrary. they take one instance of this, the few black people that work in the government and apply it to an entire race. “oh, we’re all being kept down because our brothers in the secret service get jokes thrown at them.” excuses seem too run high in that regard. it’s never that white people get promoted before blacks, and if they do, it’s because they’re racist, not that they work harder or are more reliable. the whole issue is over-hyped and so slanted, it’s unbelievable.
