Secret Service Supervisors Cracked Racist Jokes

For years, African-American agents in the Secret Service complained that racism was rampant and that supervisors not only ignored racist incidents but often participated. In recent weeks, when a noose was found in a breakroom used by a Black agent at the Secret Service training facility in Beltsville , Md. , it added new fuel into a longstanding investigation into charges of racial discrimination at the agency. In a federal court filing on Friday, attorneys for 10 African-American Secret Service agents disclosed e-mails shared by supervisors that demeaned Blacks and even joked about assassinating the Rev. Jesse Jackson, whom they refer to as “the Righteous Reverend.” In other e-mails, they joke about interracial sex and mock Black slang in talk of a “Harlem Spelling Bee.” The 10 e-mails included in the filing, written between 2003 and 2005, were generated by 20 Secret Service supervisors, The New York Times reports. The Black agents filed a job discrimination suit, arguing that they were denied promotions and forced to work in a hostile environment, but the case has dragged on since 2000. Secret Service spokesman Eric Zahren told the Times, “We are deeply disappointed by any communication or action on the part of our employees that exhibits racial or other insensitivity.” He added that the inspector general at the Department of Homeland Security had been notified. E. Desmond Hogan, who represents the Black agents, told the newspaper that the agents were “shocked but not surprised by the late production of significant evidence of racism at high levels in the Secret Service.” Said Hogan, “The government’s delay follows a pattern of the Secret Service stonewalling plaintiffs and ignoring court orders, depriving African-American agents of the fundamental evidence of race discrimination that is key to their claims.” Are you surprised about the charges within a federal law enforcement agency?

DANIEL… get over yourself. Why do some white people always say black people are consumed by race when in fact it them who are consumed by it. They would be no need for such trials if people treated people with respect no matter what the color of their skin is. And Daniel, I will say this. I’m quite sure that some of the blacks that have worked there may have said a white joke. The truth of the matter is that they are not messing with people livelihoods. They are not keeping people from being promoted, etc. This is the type of behavior that can not be tolerated.
Just another day in America, why are whites so insecure.? All we want to do is make a living, take care of our famalies, partake of the American dream. I conceived when I was a child that racism would be a thing of the past, Dr. King had a dream and we’re still dreaming, how sad for America; and we wonder why the rest of the world hates us..Hypocrisy in America, we call ourselves protectors of the world…please!
It’s not about cracking jokes! It’s about denying someone equal opportunity to increase their earnings or further their career due to race!! It’s about facilitating a work environment that makes those in the MINORITY feel limited and uncomfortable!!! There is a difference.
Daniel should shut the f**k up! White poeple have been stonewalling us for years and it will continue. If the black agents did say something about white people amongst each other, it was face to face, not publicly where they would be ridiculed. RACISM will never go away as long as ignorany poeple like you are part of this world
You know I have worked in the government for a few years and you just wouldn’t believe the racism that goes on!! The federal government is one the BIGGEST “good ole boy” networks around. And for Daniel, you know what? yes, we do tell “white folk” jokes, but you know what? We do it within ourselves, because we understand. But white folk just don’t get it. It isn’t funny, cute, or any of the above. White people need to understand that we aren’t going away, and you will not degrade us and it be tolerated. And yes there are educated black folk around,and poor black folk, just like you have your poor white trash. White people don’t have the monopoly on intelligence,education, and skill, and that is what white folk fear the most is educated black PEOPLE. Grow up. Slaves days are OVER!
Why does everyone have to judge a whole race by what a few people do? Just because a couple of white or black people do racist things doesn’t mean the entire race is corrupt. And you all need to practice your grammar and spelling!
this will not end until black folks wake up and change their way of thinking and take more responsability for their own.
