Secret Service Supervisors Cracked Racist Jokes
May 12th, 2008Black agents had often complained about racism among their bosses
For years, African-American agents in the Secret Service complained that racism was rampant and that supervisors not only ignored racist incidents but often participated. In recent weeks, when a noose was found in a breakroom used by a Black agent at the Secret Service training facility in Beltsville , Md. , it added new fuel into a longstanding investigation into charges of racial discrimination at the agency. In a federal court filing on Friday, attorneys for 10 African-American Secret Service agents disclosed e-mails shared by supervisors that demeaned Blacks and even joked about assassinating the Rev. Jesse Jackson, whom they refer to as “the Righteous Reverend.” In other e-mails, they joke about interracial sex and mock Black slang in talk of a “Harlem Spelling Bee.” The 10 e-mails included in the filing, written between 2003 and 2005, were generated by 20 Secret Service supervisors, The New York Times reports. The Black agents filed a job discrimination suit, arguing that they were denied promotions and forced to work in a hostile environment, but the case has dragged on since 2000. Secret Service spokesman Eric Zahren told the Times, “We are deeply disappointed by any communication or action on the part of our employees that exhibits racial or other insensitivity.” He added that the inspector general at the Department of Homeland Security had been notified. E. Desmond Hogan, who represents the Black agents, told the newspaper that the agents were “shocked but not surprised by the late production of significant evidence of racism at high levels in the Secret Service.” Said Hogan, “The government’s delay follows a pattern of the Secret Service stonewalling plaintiffs and ignoring court orders, depriving African-American agents of the fundamental evidence of race discrimination that is key to their claims.” Are you surprised about the charges within a federal law enforcement agency?

Hear that we are STRONG. There is no other race of people that could have survived the slavery in America. Yeah slavery was all over, but not like here in America.

some action. What about CNN I have not heard anything from that network. We must put pressure
on this Federal agency to do the right thing and fire those invovled.

From a race perspective we’ve got alot of ground to cover. We’re definitely wayyyyy behind on alot of issues, but for “outsiders” to make fun of it in the open is like pouring battery acid on an open wound…but at the same time, the true healing starts from within! Power to the people y’all!

I’m not surprised at all. it goes on in state government too!The Governor here has NO CLUE!!! I am truly worried also about Obama. I wouldn’t trust the feds to protect me while crossing a street. I hope they do a thorough investigation. If its anything like the old days when that miserable creep J. Edgar Hoover was the head of the FBI,Barack needs to watch his back!!!
Where do people think Racism comes from – the GOVERNMENT.
It started a long time ago even before WHITE American History and is used all over the WORLD, TODAY, to keep other people down (in their supposedly so called place). It rares it’s ugly head everyday in Every Country.
They call it Profiling these days in America instead of straight up RACISM. It’s suppose to be reserved for Black People – but has come in handy, over the years, in keeping other people in the world down, too(via hippies, gothic people, Bikers, etc.
It’s used Worldwide against people in China, Muslim countries, Asian countries, Russian countries, African countries etc. etc. etc.
And Mostly used against people without MONEY (the poor) who better to pick on and keep in their so called place then someone who JUST WANTS TO SURVIVE.
My personal opinion: I think White America is in fear of us taking their place in America – so they continue to stereotype us as Theives, Muggers, Murderers, Prositutes, Drug Addicts, etc. no matter WHAT progress we make.
You would think NOT one of us was doing anything positive – if you let White America tell it on their news stations, news papers, etc.
But don’t be fooled – if we were not making PROGRESS – their wouldn’t be so much RACISM today.
Knowing History (before America, after and current) helps me survive in WHITE AMERICA. It gives me a sense that I DO KNOW where I came from and that helps me to stay focused on where I’m heading. So while Racism does Hurt (especially the things that people put on these blogs) it can’t be used as a tool to keep me down, anymore, in WHITE AMERICA.
Another thing – it’s best not to reply or respond to people like DANIEL. If you ignore him – he’ll find someone else to degrade or put down OR better yet – just fade away to BLACK (literally)

Nope, not at all. I am just angry that this type of behavior is tolerated in the FBI, of all places.
NO! Have you checked out the other government agencies. There is more sanctioned racism in the federal government than any other work place in America. I made it through to retirement but was discriminated against on every turn. Check out the stress and other maladies that blacks suffer that work for the federal government. It is pitiful but it is employment if you can manage to make it through to retirement. It does take a toll.

Like TJ said, people like daniel afraid of us taking over the world. Its only time my brothers and sisters that we get ours. Get what is ours, there afraid of us rising up and getting our jobs and our cars and our houses. They get scared when a brother walks the street at night because its CNN always broadcasting us as gangsters and thieves and in jail. Why not show the good were doing? I never hear CNN talk about us when we do good. Its hard work, don’t let nobody keep us down. People like daniel are afraid of seeing us succeed – whether its rap, or that league or anything, they just scared. Were making progress and pulling ourselves up. It was us who were beat with hoses and attacked by dogs – not him. Were finally getting ours!! If they didn’t think were winning, they wouldn’t be scared. Look at Jay-Z and Diddy, they overcame the man. They overcame the racism to make it to the top. Imagine how rich more of us would be if we controlled the labels. 50 would be a billionaire but he is being held down by Eminem and the white owned labels. I know where I came from, from the streets, and by studying, and working, I’m gonna get mine!

Why does everyone have to judge a whole race by what a few people do? Just because a couple of white or black people do racist things doesn’t mean the entire race is corrupt. And you all need to practice your grammar and spelling!

I am not surpised by this and i do think these black agents go through alot. but the fact of the matter is every race makes jokes about another race at work at school at home it happens and anyone who would say i am wrong is lying. so i think something should happen with the surpervisor but i dont want everybody to play innocent of not making a racial joke at some point in their living you always must look at it from both sides of the fence
Taking it and giving it, as you put it is one thing, but denying blacks promotions and giving credit where its due, has nothing to do with giving and taking racial jokes, but all to do with what this america is all about, the americans trained Binladen, and look what he did to america, there will never be a fair and equal world for the blacks in this america, pity all you biggots in the Secret Service, Bin Laden is best suited to deal with you all:)
I’m not surprised because white folks will always “mock” us because they love to see us react in a negative way. I’ve learned that white folks are ignorant even though they have the “mustard seed” power. I’ve learned how to ignore them because I know who I am and they know who I am.
They have labeled us as robbers and killers to other countries but other countries know that they are the true robbers and killers.
Racism is alive yesterday, today, and tomorrow; it will never go away as long Satan and demons are around.
Where is the surprise? The more that things appear to change the more that they remain the same. If I were able to say anything to Barack I would tell him to watch his back and not trust the Secret Service detail protecting him. And to Daniel I say why are you even on BET boards? I would think that an inbreed like you can’t read, write or spell. Get over yourself Grand Wizard and if you truly believe what you say then go up to a black man and state your case.
