Sharpton Says Hit Corrupt Cops In Wallet
May 15th, 2008He is calling for more accountability from New York City Police.
The Rev. Al Sharpton says that the federal government should block millions of dollars in funding to the NYPD until the department proves that it isn’t out to get Black folks. “You gotta hit them in the pocket and let them know we mean business,” Sharpton said at a community forum in lower Manhattan. “Cut the money off, and they’ll take you seriously.” The Monday forum was led by Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.), who has called for police accountability following the acquittal of three NYPD detectives who shot to death Sean Bell, a 23-year-old, unarmed Black man, on the eve of his wedding in November 2006. Conyers is the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and a member of the Congressional Black Caucus. Cops who violate their own polices shouldn’t get a dime, Sharpton argues. “They would have to explain why there’s a continued racial disparity in stop-and-frisks, in arrests, in brutality claims, and why the top echelons of the NYPD are still disproportionately against what the population is,” Sharpton said. In addition to leading a massive rally that blocked traffic on five New York bridges last week, the civil rights leader is demanding to know why more than a dozen police officers yanked three Black men from a car in Philadelphia and punched, kicked and stomped them as a TV camera captured the ordeal.
I said it months ago and I’ll say it again….The only tactic that will make ANYBODY in Amerikkka stop, look, listen and act accordingly is the seizure of monies-stop the cashflow-no mo duckets!!! Everything in its time but this is the only way to get some kind of balance with the NYPD and the citizens their are supposed to “protect and serve”!!!

HE’S ALREADY FIGHTING CIVIL RIGHTS ISSUES YET DURING THIS HISTORICAL TIME HE MANAGES TO STAY SO QUIET. I DON’T LISTEN TO HIS RADIO STATION UNLESS MICHAEL BAISEN IS ON AND WHEN I SEE HIM ON T.V I TURN THE CHANNEL. IF HE STARTS AT THE TOP AND TRY TO GET OBAHAM IN OFFICE THEN WE CAN BETTER WORK ON THE OTHER ISSUES WITH GOVERNMENT. HOW SMART IS HE. HE DID MARCH WITH M.L.K. DUHHHHH!
This is to Bridgett who commented earlier. I understand where you’re coming from but I think Al Sharpton has his place too. If not for him who would call attention to the Sean Bell shooting in NY or the beating in Phili? I don’t agree with all of his methods or ideas but we must give credit where credit is due. No one else is standing up for the (black)people. Obama doesn’t need an endorsement from Al Sharpton.He is too far to the left wing to be a balanced influence. and (white) America would only use it against Obama like they did with Rev. Wright. It would hurt more than help at this time. maybe Sharpton realizes that.

Al Sharpton is the only one helping the Bell family, where is Bill Cosby and Jesse Jackson and all the rapper that live in New York like Jay Z, Sean Puffy and Russel Simmons, and all the Black American should say enough is enough, and we are not taking it no more Killing our young men, but we as a people need to stop killing each other and stop complaining when just cops do it and stand up for each other.

Al Sharpton should keep on doing what he is doing.I’m so tired of these blacks that are scared when someone speaks up for them and they shoot him down with that old slave mentality.The reverend has no say so in the presidential process,but he does have a say in how we as a black people should be treated and that is “fair and equal”.Whoever gets in the White House is not going to right the wrongs of 400 years,and that is just the way it is!Peace

Go Rev. Al!!!! He should be supported. If this was a gay person, white woman, or any other minority, there would be so much more attention to this. I just pray that something is finally done. Rev. Al has seen too many black deaths likes this and he is tired along with us all. Here we are in the year 2008, and a black man can be shot down and no one pays for it, but we have Vick in jail and paying millions for dogs. I am proud of him. Just think if this happened to your brother, son, father, etc. I really believe that when Obama gets into office, he would do more about cases like this. He and Al are being wise for staying in their separate bases.

I really admire Al Sharpton for what he is doing. I have seen him numerous of times supporting Barack Obama on news channels. So don’t think he isn’t and i have seen him supporting the Bell family. Reverend Al Sharpton is doing a good job. Better than some people who says there preachers.
