Six-Decade-Old Lynching Case Is Investigated
July 3rd, 2008Two Black sharecropper couples died in a notoriously gruesome race murder
Federal and state investigators and lawmakers are hoping that, after 62 years, they can bring to justice the dozen or so men who riddled four Black sharecroppers with bullets and cut the unborn baby from one of the victims in the last recorded mass lynching in America. It was July 26, 1945 when a mob, armed with shotguns, rifles and machine guns, took the foursome to the Moore’s Ford Bridge and shot them hundreds of times. One of the men had been accused of killing a White man two weeks earlier. A Klansman bootlegger bailed the suspect out of jail, and drove him, his wife, her brother and her brother’s wife to the bridge, where they were massacred. This week, officials from the FBI and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation retrieved boxes of evidence from a home in a rural Georgia community of Walton County. “The FBI and GBI had gotten some information that we couldn’t ignore with respect to this case,” GBI spokesman John Bankhead told CNN. For the past several years, Tyrone Brooks, a member of the Georgia state House, has been pressing for justice in this 1946 case. “We just hope and pray they can bring some of these suspects to the bar of justice before they die, because they’re all getting up in age,” said Brooks, the president of the Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials. At the national level, Rep. John Lewis, who represents Georgia in the U.S. House, sponsored a bill that provides $10 million a year over the next decade to investigate lynch cases from the ‘50s and ‘60s. Although a lone Oklahoma senator, Tom Coburn, has been blocking the legislation – he almost never supports measures that require federal dollars – but his recently indicated that he might be willing to allow the legislation to go through.

It is truly ashame. Racism is alive and well in the United States of America. I do not blame Huey Newton and the Black Panther Party for retaliating. I think we as black americans became to comfortable over the years and just took what was given to us. If we stood together as a nation as a people no one would be able to stop or hold us down.

Blacks aren’t the minority and haven’t been for quite a while. Everyone is trying to be and look like us. They even talk and dress like us. It has gotten so bad that we are starting to dress like them(wtf). The facts are that every African American born in the US has white blood in them. Remember, slave masters always “had” the black females who in turn had the mixed race kids. Then some of the slave masters’ wives started getting pregnant for the black men. The “man” didn’t like the black man messing with their women so they started killing off the black males who even looked at a white woman. Now, white women mate with black men to ensure the success of their children. Gotta love the times we’re in.
They should still prosecute anyone who took part in those tragedies. Our people should shake off the old embedded fear of “the man” which they were reared with. Most people fear the black man more than anything. And it if not because of crime. Rather, it is because of his mind. If the black mind was so small, we would still be slaves. we were a race which adapted fast in any environment. We taught ourselves to read while in slavery. The majority of your greatest inventions and discoveries were made by blacks. Shut down a mind….shut down a race. Think people!
Someone said it right early on. WAKE UP! There are thousands of stories just like these. Do you honestly think they are going to waste tax payer money and the man power( white officers, FBI agents, and detectives trying to really solved what happened over 60 years ago?.. Blacks too?

what’s the point now, I’m not trying to be mean and I hope that the family has been able to find peace, reading a little of this story now after so many years is sooo sad still but these folks that are still living and had something to do with it has lived a full life so putting them in Jail won’t do anything, cause we will be paying for their stay in jail, they will be like on a retirement plan and will be laughing in our faces, I hope that their lives wer full of turmoil but putting them in jail now really isn’t justice cause they’ve lived.

Being black or white has nothing to do with having reasonable opinions on their state of affairs, or issues. I can use my intelligence and past experiences to argue for or against certain comments/issues. Why do you think companies sometimes have outside consultants to come into their offices to correct wrongs??

I know who you are! I was born and grew up in this area; Walton County. As a Kid I notice one day while stopping at a grocery store that there was a white girl with a two-tone face. One side of her face was White [Caucasian], and the other side of her face was like fire [reddest]. I was told by my Elders that this girl Mother had witness the lynching and shooting of these black People while she was pregnant. And this damage to her face was like a curse, demon, and sign of fear that was projected at these times. This cowardly act was a signal for the White female as well as the White Males. It sent a message that they were the Polices, and they were the Law of the land, and that People of Color had no rights atall. If this Woman is still alive, she probably has something to say. She has been living with this all her life.
This is but ONE incident that come to mind while growing up as a {shared cropper}. I`ve been terrified of these white Devils all my life; I was fortunate because My DADDY did`nt play that.
