Sports: N.Y. Mayor Wants Them to Throw the Book at Plaxico Burress
December 2nd, 2008N.Y. Mayor: Throw the book at Plaxico Burress. Giants receiver Plaxico Burress, who was arraigned Monday on two different weapons charges, could spend the next decade and a half in prison if convicted, CNN reported Tuesday. The star NFL baller accidentally shot himself in the thigh at a Manhattan nightclub with an illegal handgun on Friday night; he was treated at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center and released. The criticism against the man who caught the winning pass in last year’s Super Bowl came from the highest levels of New York government. Mayor Michael Bloomberg blasted Burress for failing to notify authorities of the shooting, saying that he would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, The New York Times reports. Burress, who was released on $100,000 bail, reportedly did not have a permit to carry the handgun. He is scheduled to return to Manhattan Criminal Court on March 31, according to the Times.
Mr. Mayor, while the book is being thrown at Plaxico which it very well should be, also throw the book at the police officers who shot and killed Sean Bell. At least Plaxico shot himself – these police officers shot and unarmed man. Where is the justice?
Mayor Bloomberg is certainly a joke…He calls a press conference to talk about a fallen sports star and his opionion on the matter. However, a transit bus worker was killed on the job and you hear no comments from Mr. Mayor.
Right! get your publicity where you can huh? What I love about this American sociery is that they make laws against carrying guns and the such but yet those laws don’t protect the innocent. Not that I condone the actions of PPlaxico Buress, in fact I see it as reckless and stupid but i also don’t
condone laws that don’t allow for self-protection. Tell the family of that transit worker how great the NYPD is!…and the mayor can stop calling the conferences, he’s so ________.
It would seem like African American stars would have learned by now that when the LAW can get you, it will. Please wake up and stop wasting so much money and talent on NOTHING…Peace
Sean Bell was an unarmed man shot and killed by New York’s finest and they were found not guilty. Why wasn’t the book thrown at them? Not that Plaxico should be let off, I think he deserves what he gets – but at least he shot himself.

He didn’t hurt no one but himself. The mayor should force on unemployment and stop letting guilty people get off.

mayor bloomberg should not be saying anything this guy just had his leglislation pass law that he could run again when his term is up you new yorkers should recall this decision and allow someone to run your city with your intrest at heart i don’t like when people are such hypocrites everyone is afraid and too many guns are on the loose too many
