They joined the Republican Party after theCivil Rights Act was signed in 1965 if I remember correctly? In other words, when our people; Black folks got their rights to vote, they largely joined the Democratic Party. It was then that the majority of old school Caucasian male/female Democrats jumped ship to the Republican Party. So this is what I have been told, I will check it out more thoroughly. However, President Lincoln was a Republican, and he did free the Slaves. It is quite credible that that the Caucasians who were against Slaves being free would not want to be in the party that Lincoln was in.
