Police Attack Teenage Black Girl in Police Cell

March 4th, 2009

Seattle Deputy Asaults Teenager

Shocking videotape of police in Washington state assaulting a 15-year-old Black girl in a police cell has been released. In it, 31-year-old sheriff’s deputy, Paul Schene, kicks and pushes the girl, grabs her by her hair and slams her to the floor. Then, he pulls her by her hair and takes her out of the cell. The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating the incident, according to Komo News out of Seattle. Despite the graphic video, Assistant U.S. Attorney Kelly Harris, who handles civil rights cases for the department, said his office was aware of the incident when King County prosecutors filed charges, but “we didn’t have a lot of information to go on at that point.” Shortly after the videotaped incident, the girl complained about having trouble breathing. She was checked out by paramedics but never taken to the hospital. Officers claim the girl called them a number of names, including “fat pigs.”

Former rap label boss accused of domestic violence attack on girlfriend

Suge Knight
Suge Knight, former head of the bankrupt Death Row Records, faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon, possession of controlled substances and domestic violence after allegedly attacking his lady. Vegas cops arrested Knight after his girlfriend of three years said he punched her in the back of the head while he was driving early Wednesday. The alleged victim says she grabbed the steering wheel to draw attention to the car, in hopes that she’d receive help. The car jumped a curb and Knight allegedly chased her when she ran; police reportedly arrived just as he caught the woman. Cops say they witnessed Knight kicking the alleged victim and carrying a knife. With his prior record, if convicted, Knight seems a likely candidate to become the next rap industry figure to disappear for a while.

Politics: Kwame Kilpatrick’s DNC Trip Still In Question

August 21st, 2008

Kwame Kilpatrick’s trip to DNC still in question.

Kwame Kilpatrick

Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is due in court tomorrow for the fifth time in weeks, where he’ll be arraigned on charges that he assaulted a sheriff’s deputy last month. Kilpatrick also faces criminal charges of perjury for his alleged involvement in a cover-up of a police investigation and his denial under oath that he had an extra-marital affair with his former chief of staff. The denials contradict hundreds of text messages sent between Kilpatrick and Christine Beatty, who also faces perjury charges. Kilpatrick’s next court appearance could determine whether he’s free to travel to next week’s Democratic National Convention and historic nomination of Barack Obama. Last week, Judge Leonard Townsend reversed an order that Kilpatrick wear an ankle tether and be restricted from leaving metro Detroit after a bond violation. But within hours, Kilpatrick was tethered again, due to separate restrictions connected with the assault charge. Townsend shocked prosecutors by openly advocating in court for the mayor to attend the Democratic National Convention, but Kilpatrick has said he doesn’t want to be a distraction. Many critics of the mayor say his association with Obama could cost the presidential candidate votes in November.
