On a day when President Barack Obama wanted to discuss the economy, his comments about the MTV Music Video Awards are dominating the blogosphere.
During an interview for CNBC, Obama called rapper Kayne West a jackass for his behavior during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. Too bad the comment was supposed to be off the record.
According to Huffington Post, ABC news reporter Terry Moran, who tweeted the interview, sent this quote to thousands of Twitter users:

There has been no comment from the White House. The Politico reports that ABC has issued a statement apologizing for the tweet.

Weeks before the explosive elections in Iran, President Obama sent a message to the nation’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, requesting a personal meeting with him. Although Khamenei has not yet replied to Obama’s request, sources told CNN that Iran “had set the negotiating table in order for both sides to sit around it after the election.” The Obama administration, however, has declined to discuss the specifics “of our different ways of communicating,” CNN reports. “We have indicated a willingness to talk for a long time and have sought to communicate with the Iranians in a variety of ways,” a senior Obama administration official said. Speaking in the Iranian capital of Tehran Friday, Khamenei made an indirect reference to the letter. “The U.S. president said that we were waiting for a day like this to see people on the street,” the Iranian leader said. “Some people attributed these remarks to Obama, and then they write letters to say we’re ready to have ties, that we respect the Islamic Republic, and on the other hand, they make such comments. Which one should we believe?” An Iranian source told CNN, “We thought President Obama would send congratulations to President Ahmadinejad,” and before the election, his senior advisers prepared a response to the anticipated note, which never came.

The daughter of Sen. John McCain chided some fellow Republicans for being caught up in politics of the past. “Most of the old-school Republicans are scared sh**less of that future,” Meghan McCain told a gathering of the Log Cabin Republicans, a group of gay and lesbian party members. The 24-year-old, whose father lost his latest bid for the White House to Barack Obama, the first African-American president, brushed aside her partymates who criticized her for wanting Obama to win the election. She also criticized ultra-conservative commentators such as Ann Coulter and Laura Ingraham. “I did not expect my frustration with what I perceive to be overly partisan and divisive Republicans to cause a national incident,” she said. “I feel too many Republicans want to cling to past successes. …I think we’re seeing a war brewing in the Republican Party. But it is not between us and Democrats. It is not between us and liberals. It is between the future and the past. …I am concerned about the environment. I love to wear Black. I think government is best when it stays out of people’s lives and business as much as possible. I love punk rock. I believe in a strong national defense. I have a tattoo. I believe government should always be efficient and accountable. I have lots of gay friends. And yes, I am a Republican.” McCain, who recently signed a deal with Hyperion to write a book about the future of the GOP, said Republicans are afraid of a rapidly changing world. “Republicans using Twitter and Facebook isn’t going to miraculously make people think we’re cool again. Breaking free from obsolete positions and providing real solutions that don’t divide our nation further will,” she said. “That’s why some in our party are scared. They sense the world around them is changing, and they are unable to take the risk to jump free of what’s keeping our party down.”

Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, a loyal Bushite ‘til the end, told Tonight Show host Jay Leno that the former president had it right when he said that “President Obama deserves my silence.” Said Rice: :”My view is we got to do it our way; we did our best. We did some things well, some things not so well. Now, they get their chance. And I agree with the president. We owe them our loyalty and our silence while they do it. Because I know what it’s like to have people chirping at you when they perhaps don’t know what’s going on inside. These are quality people. I know them. They love the country. And they won’t make the same decisions, perhaps, that we did. But I believe they’ll do what they think is best for the country and I’ll give my advice privately and keep it to myself.”

Acknowledging that the humongous federal spending bill contained some notable flaws, President Obama Wednesday signed it into law, saying it was necessary to keep the wheels of the U.S. government spinning. “I am signing an imperfect omnibus bill because it is necessary for the ongoing functions of government, and we have a lot more work to do,” Obama said. “But I also view this as a departure point for more far-reaching change.” Republicans immediately blasted Obama, having earlier urged him to veto the $410 billion bill amid claims that it contained more pork than a Georgia pig farm.
