This truly is the year of the African American. All within a few weeks, a Black man became president, two Black women reigned supreme at the Australian Open, and even the Republican Party got a brother to lead them into the future. And now – just in time to ensure that Black History Month got off to an amazing start – the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Mike Tomlin, became only the second Black head coach in U.S. history to win the Super Bowl, leading his team to an exciting, come-from-behind 27-23 win over the high-octane Arizona Cardinals. Read the rest here.
Leave your comments for Mike Tomlin, Santonio Holmes and the rest of the Steelers.

Pizza deliveries and nacho sales will be at a high tomorrow as football fans around the country gather around their televisions. The Pittsburgh Steelers are favored to take home from Tampa another Super Bowl title in their contest with the Arizona Cardinals. Singing the national anthem, Jennifer Hudson will make her first major public appearance in months since three of her relatives were brutally murdered last fall. Bruce Springsteen will perform at half-time. The game is the NFL’s 43rd Super Bowl competition.

The Arizona Cardinals and Pittsburgh Steelers will meet up in Tampa in two weeks to see who’s the toughest in the land. On Sunday, the Cardinals, who have perhaps the worst championship history of any team, defeated the surging Philadelphia Eagles 25-32 to win a slot in this year’s Super Bowl; the Steelers defeated the Baltimore Ravens 23-14 for the right to represent the AFC and a chance to win a record sixth title. Pittsburgh is a 6½-point favorite. If Arizona wins on Feb. 1, it will be its first NFL championship since 1947. It has had only 10 postseason games since leaving Chicago for St. Louis and then heading to Arizona 21 years ago.
