Sports: Dwayne Wade Plays Santa; Detroit Lions on the Verge of Making Embarrasing History
December 27th, 2008
Dwyane Wade plays Santa to Florida family.
The NBA’s leading scorer threw an assist to a family whose home burned down in Florida this week. Dwyane Wade bought a new, furnished house through his Wade’s World charity as a Christmas present to South Florida’s Dawn Smith. She received her keys on Christmas Eve. Calling the gift a “big-time relief,” Smith told Wade, “Oh, God, thank you so much.” Wade’s World will reportedly make payments on the house whild Smith and her relatives regroup from their loss of earlier possessions. Wade’s charity has also sponsored holiday events including a party for 350 children and tickets to a recent Miami Heat game for 100 youth. He also donated $30,000 to non-profits. The Heat superstar had a simple message for Smith, regarding his surprise gift: “Hopefully, you’ll like it.”
Detroit Lions could go 0-16 tomorrow.
Sunday could mark the date when the Detroit Lions become the worst team in NFL history. The 0-15 squad will be the only one to lose every game of the entire season unless they can defeat Green Bay. And it’s not looking good for the Lions based on the fact that they haven’t beaten the Packers on Green Bay’s turf since 1991. Detroit’s most die-hard fans will gather to help the team avoid its most embarrassing defeat.
