The Eagles’ Westbrook is Gimpy
Philadelphia fans are likely trembling amid reports that Eagles running back Brian Westbrook is nursing a sprained ankle. He did not practice on Wednesday, which could mean that he is questionable for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants in the NFC divisional playoffs. Since Westbrook is the most lethal weapon in Philly’s arsenal, most football experts say that the star running back is crucial if the Eagles stand a chance against the defending Super Bowl champs in the frigid Giants stadium. “The good thing is that I didn’t tweak anything against the Vikings,” a hopeful Westbrook told ESPN.com. “I took a pounding on the turf but I didn’t re-injure anything so I’m not starting from in a hole this week.” Westbrook will reportedly take some anti-inflammatory medication on Saturday night and Sunday morning to prepare for the game. In the Eagles’ 26-14 victory against Minnesota last week, Westbrook finished with three receptions for 83 yards and a touchdown and 38 rushing yards on 20 carries. During the regular season, Westbrook rushed for 936 yards and had an additional 402 receiving in 14 games. He also scored 14 total touchdowns.

Tiger Woods caddies for non-pro.
A New Jersey man golfing this week at San Diego’s Torrey Pines got the treat of a lifetime when Tiger Woods served as his caddie. Woods, who drove the golf cart, handled the clubs and advised John Abel, 59, reportedly showed no limp in the wake of his knee surgery. His appearance was a prize for the “Tee Off with Tiger” online sweepstakes. Abel, who called the experience “fun” and informative, says he was struck by how “down-to-earth” Woods is. Woods hasn’t returned to pro competition since his season-ending procedure a week after he won the U.S. Open.
Jazz Deron Williams out for at least two weeks. A Utah Jazz star is expected to miss two or more weeks of the regular NBA season due to a sprained ankle. Point guard Deron Williams suffered an ankle sprain in a pre-season battle versus Chicago. The Jazz open aginst Denver next Wednesday, but will have to do so with an adjusted offensive strategy. “You can’t worry about those things,” says coach Jerry Sloan. “Anybody can get hurt. That’s just part of the business.” Williams suffered the sprain when he landed on the foot of Chicago rookie Derrick Rose.
Men on top of camels attack Sudanese civilians. In Sudan’s Darfur region, men riding camels launched an attack on civilians, killing six people, reports BBC. Twenty-eight people were wounded as a result of the attack, according to the United Nations. The civilian convoy was traveling between Nyala and Fasher. The international charity, UNAMID, took victims of the attack to the hospital by helicopter. The attackers are reportedly a part of the infamous Janjaweed militia, who have been connected to many atrocious war crimes in the country since the violence began in 2003. Contrary to several reports, the Sudanese government denies any connection to the Janjaweed, who are accused of trying to exterminate the Black Africans in the nation. Overall, 300,000 people have died and 2.5 million more have been made homeless since the Darfur conflict.
Rev. Al Sharpton’s daughter apparently doing fine after car accident
The Rev. Al Sharpton’s daughter, Dominique, reportedly is doing fine after she was hit by a car outside of her father’s office building in Harlem. The reverend apparently rushed to her side after learning of the accident, which EURWeb is reporting took place when she was struck while walking with two co-workers outside of National Action Network’s headquarters on West 145th St. “A car pulled into the gas station at full speed and she was pinned to the car,” explained Sharpton’s spokeswoman Rachel Noerdlinger. “Her father rushed home and she is on crutches with several stitches but she is fine and grateful for the outpouring of support from around the country.”
Kindler, gentler Klan? Not!
The Ku Klux Klan in the tiny central-east Texas town of Lufkin will hold a cross-burning this September “to honor Jesus Christ.” Officials of the White supremacist branch, the United White Knights, say that its members are not hatemongers but “God-fearing moral men and women” working “for survival of the White race.” Read more of what they said, and the reaction at BET.com/News.
WNBA star will miss the remainder of the season

Detroit Shock star Cheryl Ford will miss the rest of the season, due to a torn ligament in her leg, which she apparently sustained while restraining a teammate. Ford left the court in a wheelchair after Tuesday night’s loss to the L.A. Sparks. With less than five seconds left in the game, the Shock’s Plenette Pierson scuffled with the Sparks Candace Parker, causing other players to leave the bench and join in the commotion. Ford, who may have injured herself earlier in the game, appears to have gotten the season-ending injury while trying to hold Pierson back from the fight. Three players and Shock assistant coach Rick Mahorn were all ejected.
