National: Couple Jailed for Theft After Bank Mistake

January 15th, 2009

A Pennsylvania couple said they had no idea that an extra $175,000 in their checking account was the result of a bank error. But the fact that they quit their jobs, moved to Florida and were about to buy a new home was enough to convince authorities that Randy, 50, and Melissa Pratt, 36, were trying to cash in on the mistake. So the duo were arraigned Tuesday on theft and other charges and jailed in lieu of $100,000 bail. They had actually deposited $1,772.50 in their FNB Bank account last summer, but the teller misplaced the decimal, unwittingly giving the couple a windfall of $177,250.

Rapper is on Arizona ’s “no bail” hold

DMX

The good news is that DMX will go at least a month and a half without being arrested again. The bad news is that he’s locked up in Arizona until his next court date in October after he was collared in Miami last week. X had missed a hearing on Arizona drug charges days earlier, later telling his lawyer that he’d checked himself into a Florida hospital for unspecified reasons. Cops later found the rapper at a Wal-Mart store where he was promptly picked up and then sent back to Arizona , where he’s listed on “no bail” hold. DMX has been arrested more than a half-dozen times on various charges this year.

Mother Remains Jailed For Starving Baby For Not Saying ‘Amen’

August 18th, 2008

Authorities said that the mother was a member of a strange religious cult

Ria Ramkissoon

God never raised 1-year-old Javon Thompson from the dead, as Queen Antoinette had promised, so the lifeless body of the starved baby lay in a back room for nearly a week and decomposed, police say. Javon’s mother, Ria Ramkissoon  (above), allegedly denied him food and water for two days because he wouldn’t say “Amen” after meals. She was apparently carrying out a strict edict handed down by Queen Antoinette, the leader of an alleged cult known as 1 Mind Ministries. Go to BET.com/News for more on this story.

kwame_kilpatrick_booking_photo_8808.jpg
Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is to be released from jail on Friday, but tethered to a monitoring device, according to the latest news reports. Despite his apologies to 36th District Court Judge Ronald Giles at a hearing on Thursday, Kilpatrick (seen above in booking photo) woke up in Wayne County Jail this morning after he made an unauthorized trip out of the country. The trip apparently was in violation of the conditions of his parole on purjury charges in connection with an affair the Detroit mayor allegedly had with a co-worker. However, now the so-called hip-hop mayor faces a whole new set of problems. Read more at BET.com/News. Should he have been sent to jail?
