Michelle Obama covers Ebony.
While the ladies seem to love to accessorize their outfits with diamonds and pearls, Michelle Obama says her best accessory is her husband. She tells Ebony magazine, “The best thing I love having on me is Barack on my arm and vice versa, whether it’s having him standing there smiling at me or watching him mesmerize a crowd or talk to some seniors in a senior center.” Michelle Obama told the magazine, which hits newsstands Aug. 12, that should she become first lady, her primary focus will continue to be “mom-in-chief,” to their two daughters – Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7. Michelle Obama also discussed her marriage, how she balances motherhood and work and her fashion sense. Michelle Obama officially graced her way into the international spotlight as a fashion icon, making it onto Vanity Fair magazine’s International Best-Dressed List the last month. The couple also grace the cover of next month’s Essence magazine.

Label still owns Hip-Hop Classics like “The Chronic,” “Doggystyle and “All Eyez on Me”
Less than a month after Global Music Group acquired ailing Death Row Records for $24 million, venture capitalist Ron Goldberg is suing the infamous West Coast label for $25 million. Created in 1991 by Dr. Dre and Marion “Suge” Knight, Death Row’s assets include Dr. Dre’s “The Chronic,” Snoop Dogg’s “Doggystyle, Tupac’s All Eyez on Me” and a number of still unreleased Tupac tracks. According to AllHipHop.com, Goldberg claims co-investors he worked with, including Global Music Group president Anthony Marotta, to prepare the purchase of Death Row conspired against him and bought the company without his knowledge. The suit states that the label’s new owners relied on his “confidential know-how, data, techniques, and contacts” to make their bid. In 2006, Death Row, once one of the most lucrative Black-owned and operated businesses in the country, reported debts of more than $100 million and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. In its heyday, notable Death Row artists included DJ Quick, The Lady of Rage and Tha Dogg Pound.

The first lady rebuffs conservative claims that Mrs. Obama is unpatriotic
First Lady Laura Bush says that right-wingers are taking Michelle Obama’s comments about being “really proud of my country for the first time” completely out of context. “I think she probably meant ‘I’m more proud’. That’s what she really meant,” Bush told ABC News during a trip to Afghanistan. “You have to be really careful in what you say because everything you say is looked at and in many cases misconstrued.” In February, during the heat of the Democratic primaries, the 44-year-old wife of Sen. Barack Obama kicked off a firestorm by making the comments. As a result, Michelle became the Republicans’ poster child for anti-Americanism. She was used in Republican attack ads and discussed non-stop on conservative radio and television stations. Michelle, a Harvard University-trained attorney, has also received praise from the president and his secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice. Said President Bush recently: “I thought it was a really good statement, powerful moment when a major political party nominates an African-American man to be their standard bearer. And it’s good for our democracy.” Rice described Obama’s nomination as “great thing. As a black American, it’s a great thing. America’s a country that slowly but surely has been overcoming what I call its birth defect” – racial inequality – she said.
