James: Braylon Edwards is ‘Childish’ for Punching Friend

October 6th, 2009

Cavaliers Heat Basketball

As BET.com reports, NFL star Braylon Edwards punched 28-year-old Edward Givens in the face outside of a Cleveland area nightclub early Monday morning. And “The King” is not happy about it.

NBA superstar LeBron James called Edwards childish for punching his friend who is a promoter at the night club, according to ESPN.com.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer has James entire statement.

Givens said he was attacked because of his friendship with James.

Givens told Cleveland.com ”Braylon comes up and started saying things, degrading me,” Givens said. “He said if it wasn’t for LeBron [James] or the Four Horsemen [James' friends and business partners], I wouldn’t have what I have, nor would I be able to get girls. Everyone knows Braylon has a problem with LeBron. Whatever jealousy he has with LeBron, he felt he needed to take it out on me.”

LeBron Admits Smoking Weed in High School

July 24th, 2009

LeBron James admits that he smoked marijuana as a 17-year-old in high school. In “Shooting Stars,” a book written by James and co-author Buzz Bissinger, which chronicles James’ rise to the NBA stardom, acknowledges that all the focus on him as a young phenom blew his head up way beyond proportion. “We had become big-headed jerks, me in particular,” James said, “and we are to blame for that, but so are adults who treated us that way and then sat back and smugly watched the self-destruction.” The book, scheduled for release in September, tells of the spotlight under which the famous teen operated during his final two years at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. It was the period following his appearance on the cover of Sports Illustrated. James says that he and close friends Dru Joyce, Sian Cotton, Romeo Travis and Willie McGee – nicknamed the Fab Five – took full advantage of their celebrity. “I was arrogant, dubbing myself “The Chosen One,” James said. “In hindsight, I should have kept quiet, but I also was what I was, a teenager where every reporter in the world seemed to be rushing toward me at once.”

Man Who Said NFL Star Shot Him is Shot Again; Infamous LeBron Dunk Tape Surfaces

July 23rd, 2009

Man Who Said NFL Star Shot Him is Shot Again
The man who said he was shot by Indianapolis Colts wideout Marvin Harrison last year is in critical condition in a Philadelphia hospital after being shot again two days ago. Police found 33-year-old Dwight Dixon Tuesday night with multiple bullet wounds. He is in critical condition, according to a spokeswoman from Hahnemann University Hospital, The Associated Press reports. There have been no arrests in the case. In January Dixon was convicted of a misdemeanor for lying to police about his shooting. Dixon’s attorneys said their client lied because he feared retaliation by Harrison, a Pro Bowl wide receiver. Detectives determined that the gun fired at Dixon was owned by Harrison. The prosecutor dropped charges against the football star because there were conflicting reports of who pulled the trigger.

Infamous LeBron Dunk Tape Surfaces
Versions of one of the most talked-about videos in hoop history surfaced this week, putting to rest doubts of whether the current King of Slams was actually victimized by an up-and-coming NBA wannabe (WATCH HERE). Several weeks ago, rumors swirled that Xavier University’s Jordan Crawford, participating in Nike’s LeBron James Skills Academy in Akron, Ohio, threw a thunder dunk down on the basketball camp’s namesake. If the dunk would have been the only news from the academy, the story surely would have dissipated by now. But a far juicier tale emerged when Nike officials decided to seize the videotape, likely fearing that the footage of James as the dunkee would undermine his status atop Dunk Mountain. The officials argued that all spectators understand that videotaping is not allowed. But what Nike officials didn’t anticipate was how fast the dunk story would morph into court lore of Crawford’s defacing the King. They also didn’t count on another version of the video leaking out of the Nike compound. On Wednesday, however, the gossip video site TMZ.com and eBaumNation.com served up two different versions of the tape. TMZ’s cell phone video, though fuzzy and unsteady, indeed shows Crawford dunking over James in the paint during a pickup game. The eBaum Nation footage, apparently shot from the bleachers above the rim where the alleged defacing took place, is of slightly higher quality and has better sound. Truth is, while Crawford does deliver a pretty decent dunk, it’s far from the quality of bone-shaker that James – the bona fide Slam Master –– administers to foes on a nightly basis during the NBA season. Speaking to Sports Illustrated Web site, the amateur videographer whose tape was confiscated, Ryan Miller, confirmed that while the footage was not what he shot, it was indeed the dunk. “I am 99.9 percent sure that is the actual dunk,” said Miller, a 22-year-old recent Syracuse University graduate. “I was obviously in a different position on the floor, but it was the same reaction from the crowd, same everything. The footage they had before [the dunk] was also footage from that same pickup game. So that’s the dunk. Finally.”

Nike Seizes Tape of LeBron Getting Dunked On; Celts Land Highly Coveted Wallace

July 9th, 2009

Nike Seizes Tape of LeBron Getting Dunked On
You’ve got a better chance of sneaking secret documents out of the former Soviet Union than smuggling this particular videotape out of the LeBron James Skills Academy at the University of Akron. That’s because, according to CBSSports.com, it shows Nike’s cash cow, LeBron James, on the losing end of a thunder-dunk by an unheard-of young hopper named Jordan Crawford of Xavier University. Nike, which runs the camp, apparently bum-rushed the videographer and confiscated the tape. But, said the Nike rep., the seizure of the embarrassing episode had absolutely nothing to do with the James getting yoked on. It was taken, he said, because no one is allowed to videotape pickup games. “Nike has been operating basketball camps for the benefit of young athletes for decades and has long-standing policies as to what events are open and closed to media coverage. Unfortunately, for the first time in four years, two journalists did not respect our no videotaping policy at an after-hours pickup game following the LeBron James Skills Academy,” Nike spokesman Derek Kent said on Wednesday. A spokesman for James said he had no comment, according to CBSSports.com. The question is, “Do you think the tape would’ve been taken if LeBron had administered the defacement?

Celts Land Highly Coveted Wallace
The Boston Celtics just upped its chances for another NBA title. On Wednesday the Big Green Machine signed four-time All-Star Rasheed Wallace to aid in its quest to recapture an NBA championship. The 6-11 Wallace, known as much for his deep threes as he is for rebounding and accumulating techs, will join the awesome veteran trio of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen. Financial details were not disclosed. Last season, in his final year of a five-year deal with the Detroit Pistons, the fiery big man earned nearly 14 million. In Detroit, Wallace averaged 12 points; it was 14th consecutive season that he scored at least 10 points a game.

LeBron James is Fined $25,000

June 5th, 2009

That little timeout Cleveland Cavs swingman LeBron James took away from reporters last week will cost the superstar 25 grand. NBA Commissioner David Stern said that James acknowledged that he should have congratulated the Orlando Magic and shown up for the postgame news conference following his team’s loss in the Eastern Conference finals. “He asked that I express to the media, the Magic and the fans his apology, and particularly the young fans, because he knows he has a responsibility to all of our fans, and that sportsmanship is appropriate whether you win or whether you lose,” Stern said. At first, it seemed as though James would not be fined for his actions, mainly because his media snub was so out of character, but Stern decided the penalty was appropriate. “Certainly as it related to the media, we have a rule. You guys know that we’ve had some interesting issues over the years with some of our coaches and the like, and it was inappropriate for me to give someone a pass here,” Stern said.

Cavs Sweep Another Victim Away; Tar Heels Cagers Visit White House

May 12th, 2009

Cavs Sweep Another Victim Away

The Cleveland Cavs continued sweeping their way through the NBA postseason Monday, making short work of the overachieving Atlanta Hawks. Superstar swingman LeBron James finished with 27 points – unspectacular for the high-flying league MVP – but it was plenty as his squad dusted off the Hawks 84-74 to take the second-round series in four straight. The Cavs also swept  Detroit in the opening round. Next, the Cleveland juggernaut will take on the winner of the Boston Celtics-Orlando Magic matchup in the Eastern Conference finals.

Tar Heels Cagers Visit White House
Thanking the University of North Carolina Tar Heels for helping him save face in front of the nation, President Obama welcomed the 2009 NCAA champions to the White House Monday. The team, led by Coach Roy Williams, posed for photos with Obama and presented him with a personalized “Obama 1” game jersey. Obama, who chose the team in March to win the NCAA title, then thanked them for “salvaging my bracket and vindicating me in front of the entire nation.”

LeBron James is NBA MVP

May 5th, 2009

Cleveland Cavs swingman LeBron James, perhaps the most potent NBA weapon since Michael Jordan, claimed the league MVP prize Monday, running away with the voting. He netted 109 of the 121 first-place votes, blowing away the next closest candidate, Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant, last year’s winner, who earned two first-place votes. Read more.

Sports: Manny Pacquiao Takes Out Oscar De La Hoya; Will LeBron James Make the All-Star Team?

December 8th, 2008

De La Hoya beating could end Golden Boy’s career. Filipino Manny Pacquiao’s eight-round beating of Oscar De La Hoya Saturday night likely ended – for good this time – the career of the California Golden Boy. Boxing experts, some of whom were shocked at just how sluggish De La Hoya looked, and how solid Pacquiao looked, said that the so-called “Dream Match,” before a sellout crowd of more than 15,000 boxing fans, means that De La Hoya should hang up the gloves. During his 16 years in the boxing game, De La Hoya (39-6, 30 knockouts) racked up championships in four different weight classes, destroying some of the biggest names in the sport. “But on Saturday, Pacquiao left no question about who is the better fight now. Without question, the welterweight slugger (48-3-2, 36 knockouts) established himself as the new best pound-for-pound fighter wearing gloves. “He’s not the skinny little 112-pounder we once knew. He’s matured. He’s a man now. He reminds me of Henry Armstrong,” trainer Freddie Roach told Sports Illustrated. “He’s a throwback. He could fight in any era. He’s very awkward; he’s hard to read.”

Will LeBron James start in the NBA All-star game? When the NBA all-star voting results come out later this week, LeBron “King” James might be the most conspicuous name missing from the starting lineup. That’s because Chinese phenom forward Yi Jianlian of the New Jersey Nets could be the player to bump him out. It’s not that Yi Jianlian is more exciting or more dynamic. Rather, Yi Jianlian could ride into the top spot aided by a flood of votes from his native China. There are only two starting spots at forward, and Kevin Garnett is expected to nail one of them. That puts James in direct competition with Yi Jianlian for the final spot.

Lebron James Calls Charles Barkley “Stupid”

November 29th, 2008

Lebron James

”He’s stupid. That’s all I’ve got to say about that,” LeBron James said Friday night about Charles Barkley before he hit the court in a game against Golden State. On TNT’s NBA studio Barkley said, “If I was LeBron James, I would shut the hell up. I’m a big LeBron fan. He’s a stud. You gotta give him his props. I’m getting so annoyed he’s talking about what he’s going to do in two years. I think it’s disrespectful to the game. I think it’s disrespectful to the Cavaliers.” James, who has been slammed recently with questions about his future, has been hinting at leaving Cleveland for one of the bigger NBA teams come 2009.”I think July 1, 2010, is a very big day,” James said when the Cavaliers were in New York. “It’s probably going to be one of the biggest days in free-agent history in the NBA. So a lot of teams are gearing up to try to prepare themselves to be able to put themselves in position to get one of the big free-agent market guys.”
