The 33-year-old mom who recently gave birth to octuplets, wants to set the record straight about her new digs in the southern California community of La Habra. Earlier this week, it was widely reported that her father had stepped in to purchase her a $565,000 home, rescuing her from homelessness as banks prepared to foreclose on her mother’s house. Not so, says Nadya Suleman, who hasn’t missed a day of making news since giving birth in late January. “I earned it. … No, my father did not purchase this house for me. NOLA Hasn’t Used Millions in Fed Housing Funds

Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu is giving New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin until May 31 to use millions in untouched federal funds for his city before she takes it away, reports The Times-Picayune. Since New Orleans started receiving money from the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s HOME fund in 1992 – between $6 million and $7 million each year – the city has had money left over every year. Fueled by the furor ignited over the mother of California octuplets, a Georgia state senator has introduced a bill limiting the number of embryos that a doctor can implant in a woman’s womb. Missouri is also proposing similar legislation. In Georgia, Republican state Sen. Ralph Hudgens, said that his proposal is aimed at women like Nadya Suleman, the 33-year-old mother of six who gave birth to the octuplets after being injected with six embryos. “She is not married,” said Hudgens. The mother of California octuplets – who is in a real financial mess with her residence facing foreclosure and without the usual freebies associated with multiple births – reportedly has a megabuck offer on the table, which could set the cash-strapped mama right: Star in a porno film for Vivid Entertainment and collect a million-dollar paycheck. “Nadya obviously needs income to ensure that her children are secure, so we are offering her up to $1 million to act in one movie,” Vivid Chairman Steven Hirsch told the gossip Web site TMZ.com. The woman who gave birth to octuplets last month said that she had to use the embryos she had because otherwise she would have had to destroy them. “I’m not going to destroy the embryos, period. Done, done, done,” Nadya Suleman, 33, told her mother in an interview videotaped last week and posted by RadarOnline.com. “You can’t go back and alter the past.” Nadya Suleman was responding to the assertion from her mother, Angela Suleman, that she “should have considered your six other children” before having embryos implanted. “They were frozen and you did not have to do anything,” Angela Suleman said. “They were lives,” her daughter responded. “… You either use them or destroy them.” What about donating them to someone else? “I couldn’t even fathom the idea of having my own children out in the world” without knowing them, she said. The public has been outraged at the single, unemployed Suleman, who said she had six embryos implanted for each of her six pregnancies. Four of them were single births and one set of twins. Most recently, two of the six embryos split to create eight babies. The sperm was donated by a platonic friend, she said. Meanwhile, a former boyfriend of Suleman’s said he wants DNA testing to determine if he’s the father of the octuplets and her older children. Denis Beaudoin told ABC that he donated sperm to Suleman during their three-year relationship in the late 1990s because she claimed to have ovarian cancer. He claims Suleman’s older children bear a resemblance to him.

Octuplets Mom Gets Blasted in Media

Some folks are wondering where are all the gifts – that are usually lavished on those who give birth to multiple babies – for the southern California woman who delivered octuplets last week. It seems that the only thing being lavished on 33-year-old Nadya Suleman are insults and outrage over why a single mother already with six kids – between 2 and 7 –would introduce another eight into the world. And another factor that’s adding fuel to the ire are reports that all 14 children were conceived via embryo implants. She’s been rocked on TV talk shows, slammed by shock jocks and in newspaper editorials. Conservative radio commentator Bill Handel in Los Angeles called the births “freakish,” telling his listeners that people are ready to boycott any business that helps the octuplets or their mother. “I think it’s a calamity,” celebrity publicist David Brokaw told The Associated Press. “I don’t see, the way this is shaped, how you can say much about it in terms of something favorable.” A spokesman for Gerber baby food said he knows of no plans to do anything special for Suleman. And Procter & Gamble officials say that while it is unlikely they would ask Suleman to serve as a spokeswoman, she should feel free to request the usual package of goodies provided to mothers of multiple births: a jumbo pack of diapers for each child, baby wipes, and coupons for discounts. But a glimpse at the kind of expenses that lay ahead for Suleman suggests that the goodie bag will hardly help. AP reports that “for a single mother, the cost of raising 14 children through age 17 ranges from $1.3 million to $2.7 million through age 17, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.” There has been only one other case of live octuplets being born in the United States.
