Woods To be Fined For Comments About Ref
August 11th, 2009The PGA will fine Tiger Woods for remarks he made about a rules official following his victory at the Bridgestone Invitational. After defeating Padriag Harrinton by four shots Sunday, Woods said he told his rival, “I’m sorry that John got in the way of a great battle.” He was referring to European Tour chief referee John Paramor, who warned Woods and Harrington they were being timed. Woods was perturbed that he was put on the clock at the par-5 16th hole. Harrington rushed three difficult shots that led to a triple bogey as a result, Woods said. “I don’t think that Paddy would have hit the pitch shot that way if he was able to take his time, look at it, analyze it,” Woods said. “But he was on the clock, had to get up there quickly and hit it.” Harrington conceded he was rushed, although he said it would be unfair to give the final group preferential treatment.
