But here’s some food for thought. In cities such as Cleveland, Atlanta and Washington, D.C., there are thousands of African Americans rocking baseball caps and jerseys and flying flags of teams called the Indians, Braves and Redskins. For many years now, Native Americans have pleaded with sports teams – they’ve even taken the matter to court – urging them to do away with mascots that demean them as a people. Several colleges and universities have listened and changed their team names, but there’re still a whole lot of Black folks who argue that it’s merely a matter of “team pride.” Do you think the argument against racist team logos is similar to the controversy over the Confederate flag?

Redskins to place Sean Taylor in Ring of Fame. The Washington Redskins player who was killed last year after a burglary to his home will be posthumously remembered by his team Nov. 30. The Ring of Fame, which recognizes Redskins greats, will add Sean Taylor’s name to its 43 other inductees. A plaque will also be presented to Taylor’s family before the 1 p.m. game versus the Giants. Taylor, 24, was an All-Pro safety who died after he was shot in a major artery when he surprised teenagers who’d entered his Miami house. Venjah Hunte, one of the five suspects, has agreed to a 29-year prison sentence in exchange for his guilty plea and help in prosecuting the remaining accused.

Jason Taylor could’ve wound up paralyzed from injury.
A Washington Redskins star is recovering from surgery last week that may have prevented his death if an injury went untreated. Defensive end and former “Dancing with the Stars” competitor Jason Taylor evidently took a hit in the ‘skins 24-17 win over Arizona last week, but he didn’t know that blood had collected near his ankle. The condition, known as compartment syndrome, left an odd feeling in his leg, but Taylor says he was frightened when he was rushed into surgery. “I was a little scared about that and didn’t quite understand why it had to be done so suddenly,” Taylor recalls. “I kept telling the doctor, ‘Let’s wait until the sun comes up and let me talk to some people,’ and they kept stressing how important it was to get it done right away.” A 20-minute operation to drain the blood was successful and may have prevented possible paralysis, or even death, experts say. Taylor sat out Sunday’s game versus Dallas and is expected to play soon.
