Politics: Hunt for Commerce Secretary Continues

February 18th, 2009

John W. Thompson

Hunt for Commerce Secretary Continues No word on the short list of candidates for commerce secretary but  Black lawmakers are once again pitching technology executive John W. Thompson’s (pictured) name for the short list.  You may recall in January members of the Congressional Black Caucus sent a letter to the president requesting Thomas be given consideration for the job.  “We commend you for making diversity an important priority as you consider your Cabinet selections, in terms of race, perspectives, party and geography given past progress by other presidents in naming African-Americans to senior Cabinet posts,” the letter stated. Bishop Weeks Looks for Love on the Web

September 22nd, 2008

Bishop Weeks

Flavor of the “Weeks?” What do Flavor Flav and Bishop Thomas Weeks have in common? Both have gone to the route of publicly advertising their searches for new love. Weeks, who split with his popular author and minister wife, Prophetess Juanita Bynum, after allegedly choking and kicking her in an ATL hotel parking lot last year, is posting reality-show-style clips of his hunt for “the next Mrs. Weeks.” While finishing his three years of probation, the pastor can be seen on his Web site talking with staff members about the attributes he seeks in what would be his third wife: “sensual,” “diverse” and of child-bearing age, among them. Oh, and, “She can’t be ugly,” Weeks says in one clip. And you thought ministers were deep.
