Football Hall-ofFame Inductee Faces up to life in prison.
After 13 hours of deliberation, an all-White Nevada jury found O.J. Simpson, 61, guilty late yesterday on 12 counts, including armed robbery and kidnapping. The ex-NFL star, who is now more known for being a suspect in the 1995 murder of his wife than his stellar football career, faces life or at least a minimum of 12 – 15 years. The verdict comes exactly 13 years this September since he was acquitted on charges stemming from the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson. He was charged with lifting valuable sports memorabilia related to his and other NFL players careers from Las Vegas’ Palace Station hotel last year. After the verdict, Yale Galenter, Simpson’s attorney, who argued that his client was only tying to recover items belonging to him, said “He’s extremely upset, extremely emotional.” He added, “We knew this was going to be very difficult, we knew the jury was going to be very difficult, we knew the jurisdiction would be very difficult.” According to the New York Times, Simpson showed little emotion when the verdict was being read but his sister, Carmelita, fainted. An accomplice, Clarence Stewart was also found guilty. Led out of the courtroom in handcuffs, Simpson will be sentenced Dec. 5.
Do you think the verdict is fair?

Jury selection begins in the football legend’s second major criminal trial

For the second time, a criminal jury is being assembled to determine the fate of ex-football star O.J. Simpson. The Heisman Trophy-winner faces possible prison in connection with his alleged robbery of two memorabilia collectors who he said stole valuables connected with his sports career. Simpson is also charged with kidnapping in the year-old incident at a Las Vegas hotel, where he and several men allegedly barged into the collectors’ room, reportedly held them against their will and seized thousands of dollars in souvenirs. Jury selection in the case is expected to take about a week. Simpson’s co-defendant C.J. Stewart is the only other remaining suspect to face trial in the episode after several others struck pleas and agreed to testify against Simpson. Judge Jackie Glass on Monday rejected a request by Simpson’s lawyers to ask potential jurors if they considered Simpson a murderer, despite his acquittal in the death of his wife and her friend in 1994.

Ex-football star’s co-defendant cops a plea, will testify against him.

Charles Ehrlich will testify against football Hall of Famer O.J. Simpson in his upcoming trial on robbery and kidnapping charges after Ehrlich pleaded guilty to lesser charges. Ehrlich is the fourth co-defendant to take a plea deal in the incident last year when Simpson and several of his acquaintances allegedly ambushed two memorabilia collectors in a Las Vegas hotel room, taking thousands of dollars in valuables connected with Simpson’s football career. Simpson has said that the items were stolen from him and that he only reclaimed his property. But various accounts and an audio recording of the incident suggest that one or more men carried guns and that Simpson intimidated the collectors. Ehrlich has pleaded guilty to being an attempted accessory to robbery and attempted burglary. Simpson and Clarence Stewart still face charges of kidnapping, armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. The trial is set for Sept. 8.
