T.O is Back in Pads; Did Raiders Coach Sock His Assistant?

August 18th, 2009

T.O is Back in Pads
Terrell Owens was back on the Buffalo Bills practice field Monday following his recent injury to his toe. The frequent-flying wideout spent about 15 minutes running routes and catching passes in individual drills, ESPN reported. Owens, who never quite caught on in his brief stints with San Francisco, Philadelphia and Dallas, sprained his toe in his latest team’s 21-18 loss to Tennessee Titans in the Hall of Fame game on Aug. 9. “We’ll have to see how he tolerated this evening,” Bills coach Dick Jauron said. “We’ll talk to him [Tuesday] and see where it goes and keep taking the next step.”

Did Raiders Coach Sock His Assistant?
The question is whether Oakland Raiders head Coach Tom Cable really did fracture defensive assistant Randy Hanson’s jaw following a dispute on Aug. 5. AOL Fanhouse reported that Cable socked Hanson. A Napa Police Department report shows that an unnamed 41-year-old assistant coach was treated at the Queen of the Valley Hospital for a jaw injury, which the victim alleges was caused by an unidentified member of the Raiders coaching staff. Cable was mum on the topic. “It’s an internal issue that we are dealing with, and that’s all I’m going to say,” Cable said. “I’m not going to comment on that.”

T.O.: Leave Vick Alone

July 27th, 2009

Terrell Owens, who knows firsthand what it’s like to be kicked to the curb, is lobbying hard to get recently released Michael Vick reinstated in the league. Owens, now a member of the Buffalo Bills after failing to catch on in Philadelphia and Dallas, said that slapping Vick with a four-game suspension after he’s already lost two years on a dogfighting rap is like “kicking a dead horse.” Owens, never one to shy away from speaking his mind, said that Commissioner Roger Goodell’s handling of Vick’s case seems “unfair.” Said Owens, “I think he’s done the time for what he’s done. I don’t think it’s really fair for him to be suspended four more games. It’s almost like kicking a dead horse in the ground. … The guy’s already suffered so much. And to add a four-game suspension on a two-year prison sentence, that’s ridiculous.” Vick met with Goodell last week. While reports have surfaced that the commissioner will suspend the former Atlanta Falcon quarterback for four games, nothing officials has been announced.  In August 2007, the league suspended Vick indefinitely after he admitted financing an illegal dogfighting operation. He spent the past 23 months in the federal penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kansas, and is now on three years probation.

Sports: Cowboys’ Owner Explains T.O.’s Firing

March 6th, 2009

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Thursday that getting rid of Terrell Owens was necessary to save his team. “In the aftermath of the season, we talked about change,” Jones said in a statement. “Some of what is changing involves the process and some of it involves people. This is a decision that was made based upon consideration for an entire team. We will move on now with a new team – a new attitude – and into a new stadium. The evaluation process and the prospect for change will continue at every level of the organization.” Even though there have been rumblings about waiving Owens for some time, the outspoken, controversial wideout told teammate and fellow wide receiver Sam Hurd that he was “more shocked than angry” when he heard of Jones’ decision. “He didn’t give me an explanation. He just said, ‘Wow,’” Hurd said Thursday. “I really didn’t believe that he seen that coming. … He said it’s tough, but it’s a business.” Few receivers have more catches, yards and touchdowns than Owens. His 38 touchdowns over the past three years are tops. But in the end, it was the dissention that he generated among his teammates at each of his three NFL squads that was his undoing.

Dallas Cuts T.O.

March 5th, 2009

Terrell Owens

Well, Terrell Owens can’t say he didn’t have his chances. Having been cut by the Dallas Cowboys Wednesday – the third team that let the troubled wide receiver go after citing the negative impact he has on his fellow teammates – the 36-year-old gifted player will likely seek another team to ply his talent. After all, it’s not as if Owens is without skills. This past season he caught 69 passes for 1,052 yards and 10 touchdowns. Owens was drafted in the third round by the San Francisco 49ers in 1996. After seven years with the team, he left in a high-profile huff, implying that his former quarterback, Jeff Garcia, was a homosexual (a claim Garcia denied), and forcing the 49ers to battle him over his right to leave the team. Once in Philadelphia, where he averaged a touchdown a game and helped the team advance to the Super Bowl, he constantly aggravated his teammates, especially popular All-Pro quarterback Donovan McNabb, whom he described as weak. After just one season in Philly, Dallas took a chance and learned the hard way that where Owens goes, trouble follows. On varying days, he found himself at odds with quarterback Tony Romo, tight end Jason Witten, and offensive coordinator Jason Garrett. “There are several decisions on our roster we have to look at,” team owner Jerry Jones said recently. “This is the time of year we do that. I’m not trying to be trite, but as you all know we’re evaluating players in college, we’re evaluating free agents and we’re evaluating our own roster. This is an ongoing thing, not any different than this time last year.” ESPN reports that discussions of releasing Owens began immediately after the Cowboys’ 9-7 season, in which they missed the playoffs. The thought was that his waiver would improve moral in the locker room. When Owens was signed to his four-year, $34 million deal – which included a $12 million signing bonus – it was suspected that he would lead the ‘Boys to the Bowl.

Sports: Terrell Owens At Yet Another Q-Back’s Throat

December 12th, 2008

Terrell Owens

Terrell Owens is at yet another q-back’s throat. Once again, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens is angry at his quarterback. This time, his outrage is directed at Tony Romo, who Owens believes has been developing special plays with tight end Jason Witten, Sports Illustrated is reporting. The problem, Owens contends, is that Romo has been delivering the ball to his buddy, Witten, even when Witten is covered and Owens is open. As a result, Owens says, his numbers are down, and the Cowboys are losing, according to the SI report, which cites unnamed sources within the Cowboys. Owens has become infamous for his disputes with quarterbacks. He left San Francisco under a storm after saying his quarterback, Jeff Garcia, was gay, a claim that Garcia denies, and was booed out of Philadelphia, where he questioned quarterback Donovan McNabb’s heart and manhood.
