Teen Accused of Shooting Cop Without Cause
February 7th, 2009There’s enough evidence to send a 16-year-old to trial in the December murder of a policeman, a Michigan judge has ruled. Jonathan Belton is accused of shooting Oak Park, Michigan cop Mason Samborski with Samborski’s gun. The teen has pleaded not guilty in the murder. But police say he gunned down the officer after Samborski had pulled Belton over in a traffic stop. Belton was taken to a nearby apartment complex where a teen friend says he asked her to pretend they were siblings and let him into her unit, apparently so he could go free. The friend reportedly refused and, later, Samborski’s body was found lying in the apartment’s hallway. No details of a motive or what led to the killing have been made public. If convicted, Belton could spend the rest of his life in prison.

Just get out and protest on the street you people are good about that. Tell your people we are tired of crime that we do . Be responsible for your people’s behavior. You know how black people are.
i agree. Why didn’t the police just give the boy the ticket?? n went his way instead of taking him to the apartment.
This situation just lets you really know how crazy the world is get each day. something just do not seem right about this situation!
well, so many cops killed black men, just on general purpose….with that said i feel no remorse. even the federal government has thousands of blacks blood on its hands, karma anyone. how do we know he wasn’t dirty.
being a pre-law student myself, something doesn’t sound right here.
I agree with most why was they even at the apartment, everything should of been handled on the streets. If something wasn’t right he should have called for back or just locked him up so his parents could pick him up… So in a way the cop deserves what he gets you gotta be able to protect yourself in tight situations, if should went about it in a different way WHITE OR BLACK..
From what I gather, Belton was stopped and probably didn’t have a drivers license, so the officer offered to drive him home. However, he lied about the apartment complex being where he lived, so his chance was over and the officer probably was like you going to jail now. Somewhere along the line he ended up killing the officer. I can’t believe that the officer was crooked, because if he was then Belton’s ass would have went straight to jail and wouldn’t have been offered a chance. It’s just sad all the way around.
Wow!! David, your comments sound very ignorant. Why waste your time commenting if you can’t say anything meaningful. Get a life man!! In any case, I am very sorry that a police officer lost his life. I pray for his family and loved ones. However, this does seem a little fishy. We need more details. I can’t understand why this young man was taken to the apartment complex unless the officer was trying to take the young man to his parents rather than take him to jail. I am thinking that this is why the young man asked his friend to pose as his family member and act as though he lived at her place of residence. The friend probably did not want to get involved, so his plan backfired and he panicked. This is just my assumption….

The said thing is that I believe more and more actions like this will continue to happen. Unfortunately Lil Wayne has called himself a “gangster” and he does what he wants to do. Sadly many of our black youths will listen to that message and do stupid acts.

OBAMA ALL DAY
BULLCRAP! since I didn’t receive a letter from a jury pool i’ll give my little comment. this is hard for me to picture. i believe this little friend had more to do with it or she is lying, 2 they said in early articles that the little boy was handcuffed. 3 what is police procedure when they stop a kid with a previous record? if took him to the apartment when did the little kid have time to ask this friend this favor and where was the cop while he was doing it? that’s just to name a few. look I’m not a cop but common sense would tell a fool that you don’t take a person with any type of record to a house that you don’t know anything about DUHHHHHHHH! don’t get me wrong i don’t want to see anybody dead especially cops but i also don’t want our young kids spending the rest of their life locked up without %100 evidence.
Lucy,
The juvenile record is sealed. The cop would have no way to know the kid had a record before he made that decision.
please learn how to spell. SHARONDA what is “kilt”? killed! David and olounwa the two of you need help. This is 2009 slavery is dead, the president is a African-American and it’s time for change. Put all the hatred aside, the entire world is in recession and things are getting worse day by day. LOVE and PEACE to all, and lets all get it together!!
Thanks Frank for reminding me of that info but it’s hard to believe and I might be wrong but it was said on the media that he had been in trouble before and depending on where his troubles were that is not sealed. the police can find out anything they want to find out about someone regardless of the age they just don’t tell it as soon when the person is a juvenille. when they say seal it’s not to the cops if so then a lot of police officers are taken kids in because they know them from previous trouble but they don’t take them to any apartment and in that city oh no. Help me out now am I wrong? I will never stop believing that it was more to this story.
Yeah, the kid had a previous conviction for assault (or something along those lines). You might be right, and the cop may have had access to this (I legitimately don’t know), but given that the kid didn’t have a license, that information would have been pretty labor intensive to track down. He wouldn’t be getting instantaneous information as he would if it was an adult. I would also think that — from his perspective — this was viewed as a pretty routine, minor issue. There may be more to the case, and I guess we’ll certainly find out, but at this point I have a tough time speculating as to what more there could be…
David why should we protest to help the cops. I know what the young man did was wrong, but they are shooting us by the dozens and nothing is being done about it. (TRANSIT COP) the lastest. And why was he being taken to a apartment complex. What was really happening? Maybe their is more to it that we are not getting…..hummmmm
so sad…. both families have great loss!!! poor little boy looking at a life in prison…. why didn’t his friend let him in? he must have been trouble!!!!
I agree with Rosetta. If he really think that the guy did sumthing wrong then he should’ve just gave him a ticket. All of that about the apartment is just crazy.
there is more, and u all are right,we will never know.Everyone has so much negativity to say about my brother, but you all only know what the media and newspaper has to say.The only people that were there were Mason, my brother and god.I appreciate everyone that isnt being negative and are saying that they believe that is something more to this story because it is.we both have lost two great people.i am praying for my family and the samborski family!!
I thank u all for having common sense.Any person with common sense knows that its two sides to every story. Its sad that someone had to lose there life but come on think about it this story isnt adding up.People thats judging Jonathan dont even know him they only know what they hear from the media, newspapers, and the police.Anybody that knows Jonny knows he is a good person.Just like the saying dont judge a book by its cover, Dont judge Jonathan by what you hear.Nobody is perfect and everyone knows whether they want to admit it or nt that cops are crooked. So with that being said hear both sides before you judge Jonathan Belton.
