Teenager Struck and Killed by Six Flags Rollercoaster
June 30th, 2008
A South Carolina teenager died this weekend after he was struck and killed by a rollercoaster in Georgia’s Six Flags Amusement Park, reports The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Asia Leeshawn Ferguson, age 17, a
nd a friend scaled two fences that surrounded the Batman ride as a short cut to get back into the park Saturday afternoon, police said. Ferguson was decapitated and died instantly when the coaster hit him. Both fences, police say, were marked with warning signs, one saying “restricted area” for “authorized personnel only” and other saying “Danger zone” and “Do not enter.” “The area’s clearly defined with signs. It’s very tragic that these individuals would decide to jump over the fence. It would be hard to imagine somebody not seeing the signs and jumping two fences,” Sgt. Dana Pierce, a Cobb County Police spokesman, told reporters. The Batman Ride travels up to 50 m.p.h. Ferguson, whose family was in the park when the tragedy occurred, was in Georgia on a church trip, reports the newspaper. No one who was actually on the ride was injured in the incident. Afterward, the ride was closed to the public. It was scheduled to reopen today. This is the second fatality at the same park and on the same ride. In 2002, 58-year-old Samuel Milton Guyton was killed when he was kicked in the head by a teen girl on the Batman ride.
May God bless you during your time of sorrow. This is a real tragedy. Please young people, take the time to smell the flowers. Slow down.
I would like to say to everyone that posts a message let’s try and be uplifting and pray for this family. Because we are human we all make bad judgement calls! God is all knowing and things work according to HIS PLAN!!!!! TPB from BLTHEWOOD SC.
Lady Luck that was beautiful about how when the sun shine on you, your child is smiling on you. That really put a smile on my face (I lost my son 3 years ago) I hope that put a smile on the grieving family, and gives them comfort. That almost brought me to tears. May that young man rest in peace, in Jesus Name. AMEN

He blatantly disregarded warnings to retrieve just a hat that cost him his life! He is a dummy! I am sorry for his family’s lost, but let’s not forget this site is for honest commentary, so no one should be disputing anyone’s comments, considering the comment is not being directed to anyone who listed their comment.
First off Aron needs to learn how to spell.Anyway this is so sad, he was a handsome little boy, my heart goes out to his family, and friends. Six flags needs to shut down that ride for good it’s obviously a hazard to the public.
Poor, poor, poor Sharonda.
My heart goes out to the young man’s family. Yes, there were signs posted and yes, he should have known better, but how many of us have done things that we shouldn’t have done even though we knew better. We are all human and we have all made mistakes. We have just gotten lucky that the outcome was not as drastic as this situation. It is important not to pass judgement, but to pray for the family and friends of this young man. Calling him names is not the way to go. Sueing the park should actually not be an option because there are many signs posted throughout. Just an unfortunate situation. God Bless the family.
I can’t believe whatI’m reading from some people. It shows that we really do have some heartless, cruel people and God will pay them for their ignorant comments in His due time. Everyone makes mistakes, and obviously this young man did. No one deserves to die this way. May God be with his family.
omg! that was so sad to hear i mean they wernet supposed to be over the fence anyway but that it still so sad.to hear it happen to one person any way but were where they parents what did they had to say about this.and where they when this happen
Cammille: You are ignorant to have the nerve to ask what happened to the hat. Grow Up. Of course you must not be grown or you wouldn’t have posted something SO STUPID!!
but god shall be with his family anyway
First of all let me begin by saying “He Who Is Withour Sin Let Him Cast the First Stone”. There are decisions that we all make wheather thought out or not that has caused us deep regret wheather it was physical, mental, emotional and/or spiritual. Yes, this young man clearly mad a bad decision, in his mind he was not thinking of such a tragic outcome. Think about it, if he would have made the decision without harm we would have never heard about a teen black or white scaling a fence at Six Flags. Where there is tradgy, there is also a valueable lesson. The lesson here is to always be aware, caurious and heed rules. Rules are in place for a reason. So was this young man ignorant or dumb, absolutely not. He just made a wrong decision. When its time for us to make the journey home, only God is the judge on how and when we will leave. Right or wrong it was his time to leave this mess of a world. To the family, my prayes are with you. From our hearts to God’s hands. He is in a place where love and wellbeing are bountyful. Rejoice and be glad, for the love of God last for everlasting to everlasting. May your hearts be comforted in knowing that Our Father had a mansion prepared for him and that we have faith in knowing that he was guided safely home.
My heart goes out to the Ferguson family. I can’t begin to imagine what you are going through. Leave it in God’s hands…hard as this is to go through he will take care of you.
May God be with the family in their time of need! My prayers are for the family as well because no one knows the time nor the place!! God saw fit for him to come to his heavenly home!! Rest in peace Asia Leeshawn Ferguson!!
Yes Camille, that was really ignorant of you. May you never encounter anything this tragic in your life. But as ignorant as you are you would probably find some humor in that too.
May his family rest in peace. Sorry for you loss.
My condolences go out to the family of this young man. Know that God never makes a mistake, and he is resting in the arms of the Father now. He’s in a land where there is nothing but love over following unlike this unkind world. Just know that God needed another flower for his beautiful garden, and he reached down & plucked Asia to fill that spot in His garden. Find comfort in knowing that as long as we live according to God’s love. You will see him again, and oh what a day that will be. God Bless each of you.
I dont understand how this happend. Did the kid try to cross underneath the tracks of the rollercoaster? If so then I can only see one way he could’ve got dicapitated and that is by sticking his head above the tracks while it was coming. Maybe he just paniced. We all have done foolish things similar to this. I remember I would cross the train tracks when I was younger. I dont really understand the seriousness of our actions at times.
when I first heard about it, since I live in Atlanta, it made my stomache turn how witnesses described exactly WHAT and HOW it happened. Two of my homeboys was there and saw the family and friends in tears. I mean, its sad and tragic what happened, and even more sad that they have to go back to NC with the bad news to his family and friends. RIP Asia. Im only 17 but I know how hard it is to lose someone over something that shouldn’t have even taken place. They were just at the wrong place at the wrong time. (that’s how I see it). My condolensces goes out to his loved one.
I just lost my brother to natural causes, and it hurt beyond belief. I’ll keep Asia in my prayers as I pray for my brother. God bless.
This is a sad tragedy and I do pray for the family and friends; however, he was old enough to read and understand the signs. He should have heeded their warnings. Why would you climb a fence knowing there is a rollercoaster going VERY fast nearby. Especially not for a HAT!! It was a dumb decision. No other way to put it.
