First Lady, Mom, Grace ESSENCE Cover
April 8th, 2009This Mother’s Day, ESSENCE magazine will feature the Mobama issue. Adorning the cover of the May edition will be First Lady Michelle Obama and First Grandmother Marian Robinson, who not only provide the African-American women’s periodical with a major-league coup but the public with a bona fide look at what Mother’s Day is all about. Speaking to the magazine from the first lady’s East Wing office, the mother-daughter duo spoke about life in the presidential mansion and why glowing role models are so important. “Michelle has always been Michelle,” said the 71-year-old Robinson. “And she has always accomplished whatever it was she set out to accomplish. I have always looked up to Michelle because she has been able to do things that I couldn’t do emotionally, psychologically or physically. I think she is amazing.” Mrs. Obama was just as laudatory of her mom: “She made me who I am,” said Michelle Obama, who has two daughters, Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7. The first lady also discussed her responsibility to provide motherly advice to the world. “We have to talk about flex hours and exercise and nutrition and health and what that means. And we have to talk about values and our relationship with men,” she says. “All of those are part of the conversation that I think we need to have, not just in this country but around the world.” The Obama mamas might even pen a parenting book in the future, Michelle Obama said.
Beautiful picture, and the First Lady is beautiful as always and her mom is fab as well. On another note, I don’t understand why David is on BET’s website. For someone to dislike African American’s he sure spends an awful lot of time on cruising the African American site.

We don’t know what type of woman Mrs. Obama is. You don’t know if she’s a great role model she’s only been 1st lady for a few months.I haven’t seen all that great impact.What has Michelle got to show for being an example to women across the country.I haven’t seen this. My role models were my mother, aunts and uncles. Some folks are placing Mrs. Obama on a pedestral, for which she doesn’t belong as of yet.

RAREDIAMOND49….I’m sorry but are you kidding? Just because Mrs. Obama has only been the 1st lady for a little while doesn’t mean that she is not a positive role model! In fact, her being a role model has nothing really to do with her being the 1st lady. She is a beautiful, highly successful and intelligent black woman who is also a mother and a wife. She balances her home and professional life with a grace and poise that is SINCERELY lacking in the younger generations. I think some people may place her on a pedestal but those are probably the same folks who are dying to know who will sleep with who on gossip girl next. Maybe you should take a cue from Mrs. Obama

I really admire First Lady Michelle Obama. Not only is she a great Mom and wife, but a great role model for black women! Strong black woman… gotta love it!

Of course First Lady Michelle Obama should grace the cover of not only “Essence Magazine”, but every magazine, because she is intelligent, strong, passionate, warm, incredibly sexy & beautiful. I wish I could find a First Lady like Michelle Obama to share my life with.
I love how First Lady Michelle Obama and her mother are coming together and showing the world that it time for black mothers and daughters to reunite and have each other back and we love each other
Perhap’s the first lady Mrs. Michelle Obama could make her rounds around the country and teach those American families living in Tent Citie’s (because her husband, the Man of “Change That They Could Believe In” has done nothing to stop the bail-out bank’s from evicting these American families with children, the elderly, including their precious pet’s from losing their home’s due to foreclosure) and give them tip’s on how to dress fashionably, renovate the inside of the tent’s and while she’s at it, show these people how to grow their own vegetable’s outside the tent. The President of “Yes We Can”! Barack Obama has turned out to be a puppet for Wall Street & the Bank’s.
