Troubled Giants Receiver Could Do Time

December 3rd, 2008

Plaxico Burress

The New York Giants suspended Plaxico Burress for four games on Tuesday, effectively ending his season, after he accidentally shot himself in the thigh over the weekend at a Manhattan nightclub, according to The Associated Press. The team also placed him on non-football injury reserve, which means he can’t return for the playoffs, either. If the news that he was being punished for conduct detrimental to the team wasn’t bad enough for Burress, the Giants receiver was also charged with illegal weapons possession, which could land him in prison from three to 15 years. Plaxico obviously made a stupid choice in carrying around an unlicensed gun. I feel that a fine for carrying an unlicensed gun is sufficient for him or any other person in this situation; especialy since the only victim was himself. I think that this will bring him down a peg; he was starting to get puffed up a bit. I have seen the humbler side of him; I think he is truly sorry and if given another chance that rebellious streak will disappear. He isn’t a hardened criminal, jail is no place for him. Give him a fine and probation and call it a day. Praying for you Plaxico……get back to God and get back on track. I’ve watched him since the Steelers (…..I’m still Steelers # 1 fan…but he has done a lot for the Giants also.)
