Two Men Are Finally Arrested in Post-Katrina Cop Shooting
October 21st, 2008Two men are finally arrested in post-Katrina cop shooting. Two men who are suspected in the shooting of a New Orleans Police officer in the wake of Hurricane Katrina were finally caught – thanks to a Crimestoppers tip. U.S. marshals nabbed the two men late last week who had been released in 2006 in a post-Katrina mix up. Vincent Walker, 46, was arrested Thursday at an apartment complex in Birmingham, Ala., by members of a U.S. Marshals Service fugitive task force, the agency said in a news release. Jamil Joyner, 25, was arrested Friday on a street corner in Philadelphia. New Orleans Police allege that Walker and Joyner were looting a convenience store in Algiers on Aug. 30, 2005, the day after Katrina hit the city, when officers confronted them. Police said the pair exchanged gunfire with officers and veteran officer Kevin Thomas was wounded. Walker and Joyner were arrested shortly afterward and booked with attempted first-degree murder. In the criminal-justice quagmire that followed the storm, the two men were first held at an out-of-town jail. But in an action that was never documented because of the storm, they were released in mid-2006, apparently because they had been held beyond the deadline for the District Attorney’s Office to present sufficient evidence to hold them. They were officially charged with attempted murder in February 2007, but by then authorities were unable to locate them.

I would sorry for the cops, but why should I when the police are always shooting and killing us blacks for no reason at all. The police think that every black person is in a gang or some thug on the street and arrest us for no reason at all. When a crime happens and there is a black person there they always become the prime suspect even though they did not do a thing.

in the event that everything occurred during the disaster of Katrina we all should think of the predicament that everyone was in to survive. without any help from the government, state or president at that time whom did not send help or food to help thousands of people. I personally think this situation should be dropped because they were released at the time that many other where considering the circumstance that they were all faced with to survive. put yourself in their condition at that time . we all know racism is still a major part of our society and if the officer at the scene of the looting if that is what actually happened ;should thank god that he survived, look at all the deaths that occurred at Katrina’s hardship, they should be concerned about that instead of trivial pursuit that will make them look good now, as article stated earlier comparing a 25 yr old to his family or father’s history has nothing to do with him and the predicament he was in. We are all individual that at any given time as Katrina would only try to survive and stay alive.He is innocent until proven guilty considering the circumstances at the time he was being human and doing what we all would have done not knowing what the next second or minute of that event would have done to us.
