Tyson Feels ‘Vulnerable’ As French Applaud His Story
May 19th, 2008Film on ex-boxing champ’s life praised at Cannes Film Festival
The intriguing story of one of boxing’s most feared and controversial figures ever involves drugs, sex, danger – and one film audience loved it. Tyson, the documentary of ex-champ Mike Tyson’s rise to fame as the youngest pro fighter to hold a heavyweight title, played to acclaim and an extended ovation this past weekend at France’s prestigious Cannes Film Festival. “I had altercations with dangerous people. I slept with guys’ wives that wanted to kill me,” Tyson told media after the Saturday screening. “I’m just happy to be here, you know. It’s just a miracle.” Tyson said the doc was filmed while he underwent a stint in rehab. “I feel vulnerable,” he said of his attendance at one of the film industry’s most celebrated gatherings. “Because really, to be honest with you, I don’t even know what I’m doing here. I had no idea this thing was going to make it to this grand scale here.” Tyson finds the fighter, 41, reflecting on everything from his childhood as an overweight victim of bullying to his disgrace after biting Evander Holyfield’s ear in a title match. While he admits to many mistakes, Tyson stands on his denial of rape against Indiana beauty pageant contestant Desiree Washington, a crime for which he was imprisoned.

Mike is CRAZY!
The greatest fighter ever! The Brown Bomber Joe Louis.
As far as I’m concerned Jack Johnson was greatest heavyweight fighter of all time both in and outside the ring.It is true that Tyson was the greatest since Ali.
keep your head up mike we love Brooklyn in the house
Jack Johnson was a smart fighter as far as letting the opponent get tired, and beating them in the later round much like Ali. But Mike was the type to not let the fight go into the hand of the judges, he let his fist determine the outcome
did he realy sleep with guys’!!!!!!!!
Yo know Lamar, you must be young. Certainly too young to have witnessed any of Ali’s fights. Ali was the greatest heavy weight to enter the ring for 15 years and Mike Tyson as good as he was, would have been no match for Ali. Nobody hit harder than “Smoking” Joe Fraizer ( a brawler like Tyson) and Ali took his best shots and still won. If you look up the word “Greatest” in the dictionary, it is defined as Ali.
No Simmy, he slept with the wives of other men who wanted to kill him.
Well I looked up the word “Greatest” as you said and I didn’t see Ali anywhere in the definition. Sorry ):, and we will never know who would’ve won between Tyson and Ali, whose to say that a Cus D’Amato trained Tyson wouldn’t have put Ali on his back. And Tyson could certainly beat Ali or Frazier now, lol
Lamar
Tyson beating both Ali and Frazier is mere speculation. In my opinion Ali was waaaay too fast for Tyson resulting in him being cut up like he was in a knife fight and “Smoken Joe” would probably outsmart Mike then knocked him out. However I do respect your opinion.
ALI WERE, IS, AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE GREATEST HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMP. THAT EVER LIVED PERIOD.
Ali-Ali-Ali-Ali-Ali-Ali………….
Float like a butterfly, sting like bee, no fighter ever will be greater than Muhammad Ali…….
I think Rocky Marciano was the greatest of all times, remember he beat joe louis @ss.
Yeah charles woods you forgot to mention that
when rocky marciano beat Joe Louis, Joe was
like 87 yrs old………
Bro.Jay
Your post reminds me of barber shop the scene in “Coming to America” when Eddie Murphy was talking about Joe Lewis and Rocky Marciano. LOL-LOL-LOL- !!!
Because of the social climate of racism in this country, the KKK,THE CORRUPT FBI,A MAFIA BACKED CHAMPION,IN SONNY LISTON,TAKING A VERY UN-POPULAR STAND AGAINST THE VIETNAM WAR,PLUS CHANGING HIS NAME AND ANNOUNCING HE WAS NOW A MUSLIM AND A FOLLOWER OF ELIJAH MUHAMMED,BACK IN THE 60′S,AND STILL LIVED AND BECAME CHAMP…THESE YOUNGINS NEED TO LEARN…YOU MUST LEARN.THE GREATEST WILL ALWAYS BE ALI, AND THEN THE CONVERSATION STARTS WITH EVERYONE ELSE.
FLOAT LIKE A BUTTERFY,STING LIKE A BEE,YOUR HANDS CAN’T HIT,WHAT YOUR EYES CAN’T SEE…RAPPIN’ AND RHYMIN BEFORE IT’S TIME ( THE 60′S ).EVEN MIKE TYSON HIMSELF WOULD THINK THIS DEBATE IS LUDAQUISP…I FEEL LIKE TAKIN OFF MY BELT,AND SPANKIN SOME BUTT.
DID ALI EVER QUIT IN THE RING,hmmmm, even at the end of his career, I DON’T THINK SO…
Maybe just maybe, he has matured and has seen the error of his ways!
Poor Mike Tyson,
His life has just been one “turn” of events after another. It seems to me, that Mike, is just “constantly” trying to reinvent himself…kinda like Madonna, but with less success. I too, would like to see the film, and see really how “far” or just how “much more” that he has to go, in putting these “demons” to rest. I have to say, he was a “good fighter”, and showed a lot of promise. Oh Well….I guess it’s “not really over” until the “last punch…”
