‘Vigilante’ Inmate Murder Probe Widens

July 3rd, 2008

FBI and Maryland officials join forces to determine how the Maryland inmate died.

The “vigilante justice” case of a Maryland cop-killer suspect who was found strangled to death in his cell has expanded to include everybody working at the D.C.-area jail. Initially, authorities announced that seven corrections officers who had access to Ronnie White were under investigation for the 19-year-old inmate’s death. White, who was held in solitary confinement, was discovered in his cell Sunday with two broken bones in his neck; he died from asphyxiation and strangulation, according to a Maryland medical examiner. Two days prior, White had been arrested and charged in the hit-and-run death of Prince George’s County police Cpl. Richard Findley. According to police, White, who was driving a stolen truck, struck the officer, who tried to flag the vehicle down. Prince George’s County Chief Executive Jack Johnson, who described White’s death as a case of “vigilante justice,” said that the suspect’s apparent payback killing is inexcusable. “The killing of the officer is absolutely abhorrent, but also, Mr. White was presumed innocent and deserved his day in court just like any other citizens,” Johnson said. “We live in a constitutional democracy, and no one has the right to be judge and jury.” The FBI, which is working with Maryland State Police, said Tuesday that all 630 staffers at the Prince George’s County Correctional Center will be part of the investigation. Several guards have said they will not talk to investigators, according to Ramon Korionoff, a spokesman for Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Glenn Ivey. “The family of Ronnie White is absolutely, unequivocally outraged, incensed and deeply saddened that the life of their loved one could be taken so cold[ly], so callously,” attorney Bobby Henry told reporters Tuesday. “Something is dreadfully wrong with the system.”

Mz. H:

PG County is a very wealthy majority African American area on the outskirts of Baltimore. However, there are some well-heeled thugs there as well. I attended graduate school and lived in Maryland for awhile. Racism is everywhere!!!

SESCHRIS I agree with you.
I really think that we are starting to get off the subject a little though….This Young Man has died at the hands of these CO’s. I just pray that the family has strength, and that it be no more retaliation towards, anyone. We’ll see the outcome….

More needs to be done, everywhere in cases such as this. This is not the first and not the last I’m sure

PG county has the highest Black per capita income in the country. Alot of its public safety personnel and prisoners are also Black.

Don’t be surprised if the killer(s) were Black themselves- either inmate or CO.

First my condolences to the slain officer’s family and to the teenager’s family. I will not say this case is completely about race. I will say that it is first about the fellow officers being outraged that one of their own was believed to be killed by the suspect, then the fact that he was black enraged them even more. Many people do not value life. If the 19 year old did indeed hit the officer and killed him, then he had no regard for life. However, we have a “justice system” that is supposed to determine guilt, not one’s own perception. This case should be thoroughly probed based on that fact. I also believe the case of the 62 year old white male who shot two “suspected thieves” in their backs in Texas should be reinvestigated. Mr. Horn went outside to engage these men after being told by the 911 operator to stay inside. He indicated he was going to kill them, before he went outside. He can be heard on the 911 tape yelling “don’t move or I’ll shoot and immediate gunfire. His story is that they were now in his yard threatening him. Based on the time he told them not to move and then the gunfire, they had no time to be in his yard “threatning him”. Also what person in their right mind is going to approach someone holding a shot gun and they have no weapon. Furthermore, the men were shot in their backs. How many people are going to threaten you with their backs turned to you, it’s ludicrious. There was no audio other than Mr. Horn’s voice on the tape. How were they threatining him with their backs to him and not saying a word? These men were running away and Mr. Horn, being the upstanding citizen that he is, decided he was above the law and could kill if he desired!! Of course, Texas, being the “let’s consider a minority guilty first and ask question later and execute them state” let him off!! I believe the family of the men (illegle residents are not) should sue the pants off of Mr. Horn and the state of Texas. I do not condone crime, however, these men should have been given their day in court, not an execution at the hands of a man who is obviously lieing about the events of that evening. Mr. Horn knows he “got away with murder” and I hope that thought eats him up for the rest of his life.

Once again we are told that another black youth dies while in the custody of white officers.
Once again there is “a full investigation” being done.
Once again the corner’s office concluded he was choked to death.
Once again whites are “shocked” and blacks are “outraged.
Once again black leaders will demand answers.
Once again white authorities will give them some.
Once again the white news organizations will interview “angry” blacks.
Once again whites will say “they need to wait for the conclusion of the findings.”
Once again blacks will wait.
Once again the findings will confirm what was suspected…He was murdered by white police officers.
Once again they will be found not guilty of murder and found guilty of involuntary manslaughter.
Once again they will be sentenced to probation or very little jail time
Once again blacks will cry “unfair.”
Once again blacks will be left angry and frustrated.
Once again Lil Wayne or Usher will put out new CDs.
Once again blacks will fill the clubs to get their groove on.
Once again blacks will forget about the murder.
Until it happens ONCE AGAIN!

No one deserves to take anyone life.I agree with some of you as far as what if it was done by one of our African American Brothers,it would really sadden me. We are killing each other every day over nonsense. I want to know when did anybody die on Calvary Cross for our sins. I believe only Jesus Christ did that. No matter what the CO said as far as they are not going to talk, but they have to remember that GOD see’s all and they are going to be held accountable for it. All of them that are involved I pray for mercy on there souls . My heart goes out to the Findley family, may God send his comforter to console them. The word of God say that if thy people who are call by his names shall humble themselves and will turn from there wicked ways ,they shall they hear from God,he will heal our nation. I pray God’s mercy for those who don’t know Jesus for the pardon of there sins. Everybody have a bless and safe holiday.

Peace & Love,

This case is messed up on so many levels, but one thing needs to be pointed out, the officer was not in uniform, so it wasn’t like the fact he was an officer was apparent (not that anyone should be intentionally hit and dragged)…I knew when I saw the story that this young man would never see the courtroom, so it was no suprise to hear what the so-called law did to him…actually, I was suprised they acted so fast, I thought at least a few weeks. It is not about black or white (though we know how justice works for “just us”) it is more about law enforcement murdering a man in their custody and then attempting to cover it up; it makes the good officers look terrible, and they should be outraged.

TJ Said on

…then again, correctional officers aren’t even recognized as being real officers by the real police…I went to the academy in Maryland, and the people they hire leave so much to be desired, it is no wonder the Maryland prison system is seeing so many law suits and employee turnover.

Repeat performance. Almost as the same case with the mental patient lying dead on the floor at King County Hospital. Ronnie White found strangled to death in his cell. What’s Going On!!

D. Alexander Said on

How sad and disgusting!!!!!!!!!! The Feds should investigate, interrogate and press on into this until justice is found for this young man’s life. How demeaning, hateful and absurd this is. You can not trust ANYBODY in the criminal justice system. His family should pursue this to the end and I mean tenaciously seek justice for him.

Those that won’t talk should be fired, if any way possible!!!!!! He was innocent until proven guilty and I thank the coroner for his conclusive cause of death. How painful and inhumane to break his neck in two places no less.

Whoever did this WILL SEE GOD and they also have a family and childre too, so come forward, CONFESS AND REPENT so that your soul can be saved! God knows who you are and you will not go without punishment!!!!!!!

I grieve with the family and pray that they will find peace in the comforting arms of the LORD who is a COMFORTER!

Gary in Pismo….Very well Said! I completely agree with you. I am a member of 3 organizations that deal with racial inequality. I have participated in protests, sent letters, signed petitions, the works. Sometimes it about 2 dozen of us…other times its about a thousand, we all need to stand together to make a difference. Only then will change occur! Helping ourselves as a people should be the focus. Come on people!

This is crazy and out of hand!! Life and death is only in the hands of the Almighty Lord My God!!! Two wrongs don’t make a right. Now two families have to suffer because of pure judgement.

Mz. H Said on

I do not think that they will get off. Jack Johnson loves his career. And so, does Glenn Ivey. This is a very tender situation, we have here. If we have any attorneys on this BLOG: My question is, “Can Glenn Ivey (MD states Atty) now represent the White family? This is going to be a very interesting case.
But in any event as stated earlier, Folks are going to lose their Jobs, if they do not talk. The TRUTH will come out. And this or these individuals will be brought to justice.

PEACE OUT ALL!!!

MSSTLOUIS Said on

This is the “SEAN BELL” case all over again. It is sad to see things like this happen under the eye of “our” so-called “JUSTICE SYSTEM”. All persons involved will have to answer to a much higher judge on the real “jugement day”. May God have mercy on their souls.
