I am African American. I think all of you are missing the point. The problem was and always has been, was he born in this country? That has been the law for centuries that one would have to be born in this country in order to run or be president. This goes beyond color, although I am sure there is animosity among some that he won the presidency. It is the law. If he has proof that he was indeed born in this country, then we don’t have anything to worry about.

Oh, I hate to be the bearer of bad new, but it is not only the South. There are still too many who do not want to see a Black, or person of color in the highest office of the land. In tradition its the Republican Think Tank at its finest, the Cato Institute among others who invertly suggest ideals to frame the public mind in a certain way. Unfortunately for them this time, they had the economy to deal with as well as overlooking their poorly educated or blue collar working class. Most people do not believe in class wars that’s what this is really about. Racism is very real for us poor folks, so real it blinds us to the bigger war that affect us all the war of class. It dang near took the ending of the middle class or what we could call the end of the traditional White status in America that brought about this change. See America promise most of its hard working Whites a different status than any other race in the past (most, not all). I’m not saying their road to their stability was easy, but most African Americans were allowed to be left behind. Civil Rights changed our laws, but the courts had to force these rights of equality. Most people would say that’s all in the past, is it? The surburbs was created for Whites to separate from Asians and Blacks with restrictive deeds in place to keep Blacks out. Did we honestly think things were equal? Yes, things begin to change in the 60’s when minorities were allowed to move to the suburbs, but in place are still tatics to get us separate. Real Estate agents move miniorities with minorities or mixed couples. There are certain questions that potential buyers ask their agents like, are the schools any good in this area? If your minority or a mixed couple the answer would be yes, and if your White your are told the schools are terrible. Ther research study was done by high ranking military officials who experienced this drama. There was a news show I beleive it was on ABC titled “True Colors.” I’m sorry getting back to the issue on Obama. The newly most creative Republican Think Tank has all kinds of allies if the price is right. I had a professor tell me that a Black U.S. Attorney filed a motion to try to block Obama saying he wasn’t a “Naturall Born U.S. Citizen.” I guess Blacks are suppose to be so ignorant and so oh this is not an issue of skin color, but if one can recall the man who started the issue of Affirmative Action was Black! Now, my professor who is anti-Obama forgot one thing that the Republican candidate, John Mc Cain was born or U.S territory and not exactly on U.S. soil, and if some one wanted to be true to the text. The U.S. Constitution does not say anything about “born on U.S. territory as being naturally born American. He had to withdraw his arguement. One thing I’m not clear is, I know we have a two tier system with the vote of the American people which helps decides the electoral votes with exception to primaires. How is it that after Obama won Ohio with 22 electoral votes where the media claimed that Obama had passed Mc Cain in electoral votes can anyone question whether or not Obama officially won the presidency? The American public has to keep its eye open for decit. It’s a shame that the economy had to collapse before we get a coming together of American, but then again that is how history is made!
We just have to make sure that the average citizen stay involved in the political process because it affects us all!

After reading the comments left, I am shocked that there is a lack of understanding of the political process in the United States. All that is being requested of President Elect Obama is an authentic copy of his original birth certificate, not a copy of a birth certificate that was dated 1967 (for those unaware Barack Obama was born in August 1961. When my child started kindergarten, I was required to provide a birth certificate. I took the one I had received at the hospital where she was born and I was informed it was not considered a valid authentic copy of her birth certificate from the state, itself…news to me. I had to send off $25 to the state of Louisiana to get an authenic notarized copy of her original birth certificate. It’s a pain in the butt….but it is a law, no exceptions. It has nothing to do with race, regardless what some people may think, for most of the people I know. Yes, I know for some people it is race and that is so very wrong, but racism can happen both ways. When I vote I do not even consider a person’s skin color, I listen to their stance on issues that are important to me and that is how I vote. Alan Keyes is a very honorable man and I am sure it has nothing to do with race on his part, he just wants to make sure the laws are abided by. As for John McCain’s birth certificate, it was provided. He was born on a military installation in Panama, where his father was stationed while serving in the US Military. So he is a natural born citizen, if you go by the laws of our land. Barack Obama won the election of the people of our country, but if he is not a natural born citizen, the point is mute. It would be no different than Arnold Schwartzenegger running for President, I don’t care if everybody in the whole country voted for him…he could not serve as the President, because of the law. If Obama has the required documents, he has earned the right to serve and in no way should the electorate change that. I don’t care what color a person’s skin is, there is protocol that, we as Americans follow, it’s called the laws of the land. The request for Obama’s birth certificate is a valid reguest and it was made long before Obama was the choice by the DNC as the Democratic candidate in this election, so why if he has it, won’t he provide. The American people are his employers and we have a right to the proof.

I can see why some people might think it’s a fake. I was born in 1960, and for father’s race, mine says Negro, Obama’s says African. I would think if Obama’s father filled out the form, he would have put Kenyan. Also, my certified copy is a copy of the original. Back then every thing was typed or hand written. The copy on the website looks computer generated. It could be standard practice now to duplicate the information on another document. I don’t know, maybe somebody can let the forum know what the latest practices are.

This is so ignorant on so many levels. First, I’d like to say that this is sure proof that racism is far from dead in this country, no matter how hard people would like to deny it. For the first time in history, we as a Black race have lived to see someone who looks like us in the white house. For centuries, we have been tax payers and have had to conform to all of the laws of the land made by white politicians as all other American citizens, yet all of a sudden, this type of racial pressure and controversy has risen because of the color of our president-elect’s skin.

It amazes me how sick in the mind people who are supposedly intelligent and educated are to think like this.

I’m just tired of people saying, “America is finally ready for a black president”. This country is long overdue for a black man to be in charge! It’s just white america didn’t want one! I’m from New Orleans, La. and I’m sad to say it’s a red state. In the “white” south, they’re going crazy because it’s the first time in their lives they will have to refer to a black man as “Mr. President”. And if those ingnorant, cave dwelling, hiding behind mask red necks don’t get their minds right and catch up to speed with the rest of the world, guess what……? We’ll have another black president (in 8 years of course)! Bush exposed wealthy, white America to the rest of the world, which is greed, selfishness, corruption, and destruction. It’s something minorities had already known, and middle class whites didn’t want to admit. As a country, we need to stop electing rich folks to be in charge because they will only be looking out for their own interest! It doesn’t matter if they’re black or white! The average intelligent working man should be our “commander in chief” because they work side-by-side with the people. I just wish the cowards that’s signing those petitions would come out of hiding. I would have more respect for them.

Someone told me that our votes never counted from the getty up. The electorial college decides who the president will be, we are just the popular vote. So although we are feeling empowered by this new step in history, the fight must continue by supporting Obama and remembering that feeling of unity we felt on Nov. 4th. The system has been set since the beginning of time for betterment of the rich and non-colored. I will admit this is a last desperate attempt to stop the peoples choice, but we’ve got more worries than this. We must take action as well. The ignorant, racist, and followers of Satan don’t stop. It is all so simple! Though it may be a race issue it really isn’t. It seems as though it is always going to be someone in the background trying to find something to stop change from happening. It’s his birth certificate now, and when that is porvided and valid it will be something else.
I have read many ignorant comments on here and a few disturbed me: “if anyone of your parents are black you are considered black…..”. This is so not true. My mother is spanish born in Costa Rica as well as her parents and she has to state she is black on all transcripts based on her skin color. There is no black hispanic or white hispanic. You are stereo typed by the skin color. When a puerto rican person fills out and application they ask are u white non-hispanic/latin, african american/black (non-hispanic/latin, asian, or other and most hispanic/latino have to select other because they don’t fall under either category. For some one who is mixed they can’t select black when they look white because there mother is black. They have to select other or they can chose white. It doesn’t matter what ur parents are. I am not spanish based on my skin if someone is looking at me n make there own judgement, I am dark black girl with pretty hair as far as they know.

Obama is a citizen of the united states regardless where his father is from. My parents could had had me in an airplane going over antartica coming back from a vacation that does not make me a native of that country.

The protocol has always been what the White male establishment wanted it to be. Laws can be changed in the blink of an eye if they want to block something. They did it in the south when blacks tried to vote and when blacks tried to enter various schools in white communities. If anyone believes that there are not forces at work in this country that have the power to block or sabatoge Obama’s presidency then you are all crazy. The world has been ruled by Europeans for hundreds of years now and look at the mess it is in. Obama got to where he is just like any other poor hard working American, black or white. What I don’t understand is why so many people are going against Barak Obama being president? They keep digging trying to find something new to stop him from taking office. Now they say Obama shouldn’t be president because he was born in Kenya, well if you fill like that why is a foreign body builder the govenor of California? There is no half black. If anyone so thinks that he or she is, I challenge you to place yourself amongst a group of whites - call the police, give them a location and say that there is a black person is causing a commotion… place yourself amongst a group of black people and say that there are a group of blacks causing a commotion. There were two primary candidates engaged in this election. One has been and continues to be questioned and considered not tested. Whilst the other was often referred to as an American hero and thus a person who knows how to win a war. Mccain is a Vietnam Era veteran and former prisoner of war. A war that America lost - so many young Americans lost their lives during this war. A prisoner of war during any war, might be subjected to torture, but torture would remain subjective a term. It is apparent to me that Mccain is not a hero, as a hero would not be alive - as he or she would never have given classified information to preserve his or her life - such a person would’ve died for this country. Mccain is not a hero and has not the experience to win a war… but if this was not worthy of mention or questionable during the campaign. Unless the laws have been changed, it is my belief that the Uniformed Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) succinctly states that a soldier who gives classified information (anything other than “name, rank and serial number) may be considered as committing an act of treason… . I’m done with Mccain and those who chose to glorify in contrast to others who have served this country and perhaps blindly - who volunteers to serve in our armed forces and why? This is certainly important and questionable, as one who volunteers for any job or duty, does so willingly and for some purpose beneficial. Such a person should have the option to quit the job or duty when deemed necessary or desirable by the volunteer. During the Vietnam era, some were drafted and some were volunteers and, some volunteered in order to escape the confines of jail or prison. Does anyone truly believe that our military is void of those who would be criminals if not employed or “owned” by our military?
Do the research and find the truth and report it! One reason that America has been hated by those outside of its borders, is because of its treatment of Blacks and other minorities. Advertisements asking for Americans (all) to support impoverished people (notably in Africa) have run for years. Yet American blacks have been and still remain the only ethnic group having no foreign government to contact about being mistreated. The American government is the government of blacks whose ancestors were slaves who did not volunteer to serve America. Albeit for the most part, this country was built by the same slaves. Kenya has never been of assistance to American blacks… and certainly not a single vote was cast by a citizen of Kenya in deciding this election. Barrack Obama is a Black American who would be called a negro or colored boy during past times… who is probably considered the same as of this day, in places and amongst people who have not realized that these are new times or, simply refuse to concede to these new times. Hence there is no half black nor half white. As a slight majority, Americans are seemingly more in touch with these new times… but amongst those who were able to and did vote, how many were actually qualified (mentally) to vote?

I am shocked that Alan Keyes, a black man would be part of an effort to prohibit Obama from being installed as the 44th president of our great nation. 1. It contains some damaging information he does not want released to the public

This should be no sweat… but it seems that there is this constitution thing where the electoral college has to be sure he is eligible to be president before they can vote him in.

All Obama has to do is show his birth certificate and it’s all over with.

To put all one’s hope in a man because of his race is heading down a dangerous path. While Obama may have many fine qualities viewing his ascent to the presidency as something ordained from above goes far out in a dangerous direction.

Many have suggested this is ALL about race. Most of them will not see it any other way. As Clarance Thomas said… reverse the situation… what if this was about McCain and everyone was saying he was ineligible and if he is sworn in it will violate the constitution and lead to a constitutional crisis. what if… what would we all think then…

Well, Leo Donofrio has a case filed at the Supreme Court that will be reviewed Friday that says McCain was NOT eligibile. He is not a NATURAL Born Citizen according the Artilce 2 of the Constitution. Born of two US citizens in Panama… To make this balanced the case says both Obama and McCain are not eligible and the Supreme Court has agreed to review this.

Why don’t they just throw this case out… if the case is successful neither McCain nor Obama will be president. Clearly the Court sees merit in the case… they see that it is a constitutional issue because otherwise they would tell Donofrio to go home. They also see it has substance otherwise the would see it as frivolous.

It is not about race to those who see it as an issue of law and keeping the constitution whole.

Obama should he show his birth certificate will stop these law suits in their tracks… let’s hope he pulls back his army of lawyers, stops trying to throw out law suits, and just shows the certificate— the vault certificate full birth certificate. He needs to or this will NEVER go away.

How come we have never heard of this special committee before? I never knew that about having to be sworn in by electoral officials before the official inauguration. Its real strange how someone who happens to be african american has all these new rules but other white presidents in the past never had these things talked about. I am tired of people using sick, last ditch efforts to stop this man from being president. He won fair and square. The american people voted him in and he isn’t going anywhere. OBAMA 2008-2016.

Actually these “rules” have been around since the country was founded. When you vote you are actually voting for the electors in your state. If your candidate wins then the electors later cast their vote for the winning candidate. So if Obama wins a state with 20 electoral votes, those 20 electors will almost certainly vote for Obama. It works this way in each state. Remember during the election every said he had to have at least 271 elector votes to become president… that is why the said it. No one said the popular vote decided it because it doesn’t. It’s the number of electoral votes. But the college hasn’t voted yet… they must make sure the election was valid.

The electoral college votes on Dec. 15th. They must certify the winning candidate. It’s always been that way but no one ever notices this because it hardly ever changes anything. It is not something new just for Obama.

So the electoral college consists of all the electors in all 50 states. They must certify that Obama is ELIGIBLE to be president as part of this process. If he is then he is OFFICIALLY President elect Obama (even though everyone uses the title president elect now it is not official until they electors vote).

The only thing likely to change this is if Obama is not eligible. We have never had a president who was not eligible become president. This is why he needs to prove his citizenship. If the courts force him to then he must show his full vault-certified birth certificate and possibly other documents. If he doesn’t and the courts don’t make him this could become a crisis of another sort because he will have kept secret what is actually on his certificate. This is why we are all concerned… this needs to be avoided.

So this is not new. It is documented all over the Web and in textbooks. The problem is a lot of people are just beginning to realize it.

Actually the laws were in place at the founding of our country. It is the Constitution of the US Article 1. To be president you have to be a Natural Born Citizen which means both your mother and father have to be citizens and you have to born on US soil. This has nothing to do with how many generations your famile has been here.

The law is in place to protect someone with “mixed allegiance” from taking the office of president. As you may know there is a Supreme Case right now that claims that John McCain and Barrack Obama are not illegible to be president because they are not natural born citizens– see the Constitution for details.

That is what this is all about… and if it is true it is possible that both McCain and Obama ran for president knowing they were not eligible… you could say they are “testing” the constitution to see if the laws will stand… now you may think that the laws are wrong… and you entitled to do so. But if true both of them tried to fool the AMerican people. So if Obama would show his birth certificate and not have an army of lawyers trying to prevent it we would know. That’s what this is all about: the constitution. Break it, cheat it, and there is not much to stand on… anything goes if the constitution can be subverted.

First, I am an American. I’m black. I was born and live in the South. Not all southerners voted for the President-elect as you know by the red and blue map of the US on election night but the south is not all racist and all racists are not white. In this case, it appears the President-Elect was born in Hawaii in 1961 approx 2 years after Hawaii became a state of an American citizen (Kansas born). The problem that the naysayers have is that the original birth certificate (b/c) has not been seen. Nothing unusal, my daughter are in their 20’s, we’ve moved several times during their lives so we have had to replace their certified b/c’s and the new b/c’s are produced by computers but certified and legal just the same. Honestly, I am an Obama fan and campaigned for him vigorously but to cut all this short. . .IF the original birth certificate is available, DISCLOSE it and IF NOT, produce all the information you have (Dr., Hospital, and attending nurse if you can) and let’s get to the business of governing the grand ole United States and getting it out of the gutter from the past 8 years! Actually the 3 requirements to be president are: 35 years old, 14 years a US citizen and natural born citizen (NBC). NBC is being born of two US citizen parens on US soil. By that McCain is not eligible and he likely knew that. Obama is not eligible and as a Constituitonal lawer he also likely knew it. In fact I’m very confident both candidates knew exactly what they were doing and they both were NOT eligible. Native born is not defined in the Constitution.
