Where Were You When Obama Became President?
November 3rd, 2009
History was made one year ago when Barack Obama, a young African-American senator from Illinois, inspired America to do something it has never done before; elect a Black man as President of the United States.
In recognition of the day that changed America, The News That You Should Know blog wants you to share your insights on Election Day 2008 and your memories of the historical moment.
Did you volunteer for the campaign? Were you dancing in the streets? Did you vote for McCain and have a different perspective to express?
All comments are welcome.

Hello,
Election day I was on a Cruise ship, had already voted Absentee Ballot. The night of Election results I was in Comedy club on ship and close to the time of announcement different ones left club and so did I. We all gathered around Television in lobby area and waited for the Fantastic announcement that Barack Obama was our new President! Everyone (Black, White, Hispanic, Arabic, Nigerian, etc.) embraced each other, some cried, we all shouted and Cheered!!!!
A New Day had come, History was made, and I had lived to see a BLACK MAN become President. Oh how I wished my parents had lived to see this day. I was extremely Proud to be an American and truly Blessed to be Favored by God to be Alive and witness that day.
President Obama had/has a Challenge, lots of things to clean up but YES WE CAN and will see Changes in days ahead!
God Bless America and our First Family!!!!!
Dancing in the streets in Washington, DC on U Street. They blocked off the road to traffic, so ppl could walk in the street. It was a BEAUTIFUL thing!
I hadn’t been that touched in decades by the collective energy of all the ppl around me.

I am a 54 year old, white, life long Democrat, who has more often then not seen my candidate of choice loose elections And I knew it was a long shot to back a virtually unknown black man with a strange sounding name, in January 2008, but agreed with his platform, more then any other.
Election night I looked around a room of about 35 people gathered at a friends home, and no matter how proud I felt, I saw their emotions, tears, joy and felt their hugs. I heard their conversations as they called elderly parents around the country, “Mom, did you see?. . . Since everyone else in the room was black I knew they felt what I felt – and more!
I actually was driving home from the Beverly Hills Hotel after working the voting polls as an Inspector. People were in the middle of the street hollering with joy, dancing, shouting, crying, praying and laughing with joy. And then it was announced ” Barack Obama” president of the United States. It almost made that grueling 14 hrs of pollworking worth it………………………
I had went straight home to watch the coverage till 11 oclock when they announced that he was president. Me and my bestfriend went out to party! Even if it was through the week. We had free drinks and everything. It was truly an good night we felt respected finally in an mostly white city, (I wont say where that is) lol
I worked the polls in beachwood OH. My heart skipped a beat when we counted the ballots, I knew then he won Ohio!!!

Times Square watching CNN … a night I’ll never forget.
I hosted a gathering of family and friends at my home. The level of joy, tears, and hugs in the room was overwhelming. We began to get very excited when VA and PA came in, then, when they called OH, we began to erupt! Wolfe immediately followed by declaring Obama the winner, and the house exploded with elation!
…we started the night plannng to do a shot of Patron for every state we won…good thing someone had the good sense to nix that idea…just, maybe not soon enough
A good time was had by all!

I am a home-grown Chicagoan…I was in Grant Park and wittnessed the wonderful joy of the the togetherness! Awesome day!!!
I was at home. I was in the bed watching the tv and just praying!!! I was taking cat naps because it was taking so long to get to the real point! I remember waking up and seeing President Obama in the lead, then all of of sudden they just said Barack Obama is our new president! I just started screaming at the top of my lungs, I screamed so hard I fell out the bed. I jumped up & started running around the house. I fell to my knees and JUST CRIED!!! Oh What a wonderful feeling I experience that night!!! Thank you God!
I was on my school bus, I was slightly annoyed by the others talking while the inauguration took place, but I cried when he finally became president.
Taking a dump , and eating a burger.
It was a very exciting and special day for my family and I. Besides being in the most excited state of mind, A SENSE OF RELIEF CAME OVER ME, I finally felt that our country was in good hands. It’s been so long, since I have felt that way.
On the night of November 4, 2009 when Senator Obama became our President-Elect of the United Stales of America, I was glued in front of my television in my bedroom watching CNN news.
When they announced that Senator Barack Obama had made history and will be our next President of the United States, I became overjoyed:
I cried with tears of joy as I shouted out loud to the top of my voice that a great great leader from God has honored us by electing President-Elect Barack Obama as our next President of the United States of America.
I immediately fell to my knees in the prayer mode and I started thanking the Good Lord for putting such a great great man in office as our next President and Commander in Chief of the United States of America on January 20, 2009; and that I would make every effort to be a witness to his inauguration on that special day… and I was.
FROM DAY 1, I HAVE BEEN SO VERY PROUD AND HONORED TO HAVE PRESIDENT OBAMA AS OUR PRESIDENT, JUST AS I WAS PROUD AND HONORED TO HAVE HIM BECOME OUR PRESIDENT-ELECT ON NOVEMBER 4, 2008.
PRESIDENT OBAMA IS THE GREATEST EVER !!!!
