White House Reaction Fast And Furious To Bush Loyalist’s Scathing Book
May 29th, 2008McClellan says Bush administration bungled Katrina response
In his new book, Scott McClellan, chief
spokesperson for the Bush White House from 2003 until he was forced out last year, says the Bush administration was “out of touch” and mishandled the response to Hurricane Katrina, which devastated New Orleans and other Gulf Coast communities. He also said the administration played a little loose with the truth about the Iraq War, and that he was lead to “lie” about the Valeria Plame CIA scandal. Those are just a few of the claims McClellan makes in his controversial new book, “What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and Washington’s Culture of Deception,” which has rocked the White House and has tongs wagging in Washington. In his book, which is officially not to be released until Monday, McClellan writes that Katrina was mostly a story of misunderstood good intentions, since the White House felt that local and federal agencies could keep the devastation in check. But he adds that the White House was “out of touch,” with the reality on the ground. Further, McClellan writes that he was “encouraged to repeat a lie,” when he publically denied that vice presidential aide Scooter Libby was involved in the outing of CIA undercover operative Plame. He also calls the Iraq war a “strategic blunder,” and that the adminstration used a “political propaganda campaign” to sell the war. White House reaction was fast and furious. President Bush was said to be “disappointed” in McClellan, and current press secretary Dana Perino said in reaction Wednesday, “the Scott we now know is disgruntled…“ While others criticized his book as a publicity stunt, and said he must have been forced by publishers to write what he wrote, McClellan defended his work on NBC’s Today show this morning. “… I felt it was important to look back and reflect on my experience… to learn from it,” he said. Was he disgruntled or trying to set the record straight?

I believe he was/is trying to set the record straight.
No one’s that mad. We all felt the handling of Katrina was slow and almost non responsive. It was not felt to be a 911-emergency while we are running to aide other countries on their tradegies and couldn’t even help our own. The War is useless and we are still being lied to about it. We are losing many soldiers and for what? Pres. Bush dances around questions. He never gives a direct answer. Half the time you don’t even know what he’s talking about, neither does he.
why should he have 2 leave the white house with a bang, basicalli he’s writing a tell all book, tryna get back at someone, which is very childish, and if bush was so dissapointed, he would have took more action, maybe having something 2 do with the book not bein published?
He may be a little bit of both, but who cares either way. At least he is letting what he knows to be the truth out unlike other former and current members of the White House staff.
I believe it cuz I am a katrina victim and I had to be rescued out of new orleans….I worked for the federal government during the storm and it still took 5 days for me to be rescued so what that tell you….its all good cuz there’s always a blessing out of a tragedy and I must say I have been blessed since this happen and more doors has open for me….This should have been a wake up call for ALL citizens of America cuz u never know when its your time….
We all know the White House is corrupt, and who is to say if his book is 100% true but just like Barbara Walters he can retire on his best seller.
He is telling the people what was already known.
we dont have to read a book to know that the whole bush admin. are a bunch of liars.
Funny how angry all the players get in this Washingtonian drama when one of their own gets rid of all the smoke and mirrors shines a “light” on the situation. They have no choice but to deny everything tooth and nail. Are they really going to admit that they purposely let black people DIE in the NOLA after Katrina? Whose going to take the blame for that one? Atleast he wrote the tell all which is more than can be said about the rest of those DC killers!
NYPD,President Bush and his whole administration should be on a terroist list, of dangerous people
We all know this war was a mistake it was just a way ti justify what his daddy could not do before. What ever happen to Ben Lauden was he not the person we were looking for in the first place. Why does th United States always try to help out all these other countries but, can’t help the people here. We have starving children, homeless people and so much more.
I want to read this book beacuse I never did trust or believe any thing President Bush said.

If you had your eyes open during the past eight years, you would know that every word in the book is true.
