I don’t understand why more black parents don’t encourage their child/childern to attend HBCUs. For years we wern’t equal to them, but when they finally realized that we were the better overall athletes they begin to come after black people. Now we build their programs, give them championships, and they push us out the door with a degree (sometimes) and we can barely read. I blame the parents.

Truth Speaker, I 100% agree. If these black colleges would offer more then the black kids would go to their schools but how does someone with so much talent go to a school where not only is there no TV coverage of the games but their parents still have to pay for their tuition? Black colleges need to step it up like those big white schools do.

I have found that many HBCU”s don’t have the same amount of funding as the white colleges. We black people do not put any money into our black colleges, and the government only gives these schools so much money. If we want our colleges to have more to offer us, than we’ve gotta put something in the pot! C’mon we love to complain about what HBCU’s are not ,but I don’t see enough of us digging in our accounts to support our colleges. What is it? We’d rather go to the white schools because they havea starbucks on site and a couple of flat screne TV’s.? My child will attend a HBCU to freakin get her degree and get out. *~@@# entertainment! Being entertained never paid ma bills!!

We should send our black athletes to HBCUs because even the sports system is holding us back. Case and point……….A rule was put in place that basketball players have to be one year removed from high school before they can go into the NBA. Now the problem is this effects blacks more than whites. White athletes sign professional contracts out of high school in baseball, hockey, golf, tennis, etc. I won’t even mention they are in olympic gymnastics as young as 12 years old. These are all predominantly white sports!! Now that shows us how much they care about our kids!! So black parents, please realize that these “big time” white schools are using your kids to make money and that’s it!! Until HBCUs step up the game, there will be no successful black football coaches in D1 because all of our kids are being lured by the TV, media exposure and the occasional “house, car and job package” for mom and dad.

The job of a college/university is to educate first. What good is being the number one draft pick when you can barely read or write? The best players in the history of the major sports have all come mostly from HBCU’s The focus at most HBCUs if to turn girl and boys into women and men. Watch the film Black Magic. True the D1 schools lure blacks there with promises of TV, media, and the house and car things, but it is up to parents to educate their children on the fact that education is the most important thing. What is a degree in General Studies from USC worth?

What quality I would want in a coach is the ability to coach a winning team. I’d hate for a coach to be hired based on his or her ethnicity (or worse yet, on the “good ol’ boy” system).

Price and Willingham got fired b/c they didn’t do their job. Just because many of the athletes are Black doesn’t mean that there should be ‘underqualitfied’ Black head coaches placed in the top schools. An opportunity to showcase one’s skills is important. I do believe that positions coaches, and assistant coaches that are minorities should get a shot via an interview or other avenue.

There are some dogs that are more athletic, and some that are less intelligent…but they can all reproduce.

First of all, I am throwing out a theory that some scientist mentioned years ago. I never suggested that it is right or that i believe it. It was interesting since, as you even mention, Blacks are athletically superior to other races (in general–speed/agility/endurance/strength). This is supported by the general landscape of sports currently, and throughout the history of sport. All the top sprinters, distance runners, basketball players, running backs/corner backs/wide receivers (speed positions) are dominated by Black men and women.
I made the analogy using dogs for the comparison of HUMAN BEINGS, NOT JUST BLACKS. All races of humans can interbreed…just as different breeds of dogs can. Some breeds of dogs are stronger, and faster than other breeds. Similarly, some breeds are more intelligent, and less hostile than other breeds. SINCE HUMANS ARE ANIMALS TOO, IS THE NOTION (PARALLEL TO THE DOG COMPARISON ABOVE) THAT SOME RACES ARE SUPERIOR IN ATHLETICISM, WHILE SOME ARE SUPERIOR IN INTELLIGENCE A NONSENSICAL ONE?? I said that SOME black athletes are superior to other races in some sports because of their physical strength and agility; for example tall strong blacks will typically be better at basketball and football than short scrawny Asians. That’s just physical but cognitive ability is much more difficult to analyze and theorize. There are no conclusive reputable studies to confirm the theory you present. I strongly reject your effort at racial categorization as it played a crucial role in past racial oppression and does nothing to unite the races.
