World: Korean Man Kills Teacher Over 21-Year Grudge; Somali Gunmen Kidnap Italian Nuns

November 11th, 2008

Korean man kills teacher over a 21-year grudge. A South Korean man recently admitted to killing his former teacher because he punished him for cheating on a test 21 years ago. The alleged killer, referred to as Kim by police, repeatedly asked for an apology from his former teacher for disciplining him when he was a 10th-grader, he said. During the 1987 incident, he claims that when he finished a test about 20 minutes early he decided to take a nap. After he woke up, he looked around. At that point his teacher, referred to by police as Song, accused Kim of cheating off of his classmates and beat him severely. About 20 years later, last January, Kim got back in contact with the teacher asking him for an apology, calling him several times and even coming to the school where he worked. Kim got so upset that he wasn’t getting any response from Song, he went to his home to confront him Sunday, where he ended up shooting and killing him. Kim was arrested when police found him at a hospital where he’d gone to treat hand wounds he suffered during the attack. Police are still investigating.

Somali gunmen kidnap Italian nuns. In Kenya, Somali gunmen kidnapped two Italian nuns and took them into Somalia, reports the BBC. They were kidnapped during a raid on El Wak, a town near the Somali-Kenyan border, and transported to Somalia in hijacked vehicles.  The circumstances surrounding the kidnappings are still a little unclear. An aid worker said the nuns were abducted during a shoot-out near a church, but the Kenyan Red Cross claims they were kidnapped from their home. Kenya is working with Somali elders to solve the crime and Italy’s foreign ministry is working to ensure the nuns are freed. There have been numerous kidnappings and murders of aid workers in Somalia, as well as attacks on Catholics. The Somali government has been unstable since the early 1990s, and rebels control a majority of the nation.

seschris,
There are exceptions to EVERYTHING. We are all human beings…there are bad in all races…more in some than others. It really catches your attention when something like this happens (did not even occur in the US)…when an Asian commits a violent crime; however, WHEN A STORY LIKE THIS COMES OUT ABOUT AN AFRICAN AMERICAN MALE, NO ONE BLINKS AN EYE. Your commenting on this story just strengthens this notion.
