World News: Zimbabweans Forced to Vote in “Sham” Election, Says Opposition

June 28th, 2008

Zimbabwe went ahead with its internationally condemned presidential run-off election Friday, in the midst of claims of voter coercion. “What is happening today is not an election. It is an exercise in mass intimidation with people all over the country being forced to vote,” Movement of Democratic Change leader Morgan Tsvangirai told reporters Saturday.  Tsvangirai dropped out of the race against longtime leader Robert Mugabe last weekend because with the widespread violence against his supporters ahead of the poll, a free and fair election was impossible, he said. Tsvangirai’s name remains on the ballot, but Mugabe is widely expected win. Mugabe wanted a high voter turnout so the election would appear legitimate, reports CNN.  Reportedly, many Zimbabweans were threatened with violence if they did not vote and some say had to report their ballot serial numbers to member’s of Mugabe’s party. Government authorities were “threatening anyone that doesn’t vote or who votes for the MDC with death…the militia are warning that tomorrow they will launch Operation Red Finger that will target anyone who has not voted,” said Tsvangirai. In some nations, including Zimbabwe, voters have to dip their finger in red ink to make sure there is no one voting twice. Mugabe spokesman denies those claims, telling CNN that the election had been “free and fair.” He also said, “I don’t think we should put accent on what a politician who is facing a bleak defeat claims is happening to him.” The official results are expected Sunday.

So when Goerge Bush steals an election,it’s ok, but if Mugabe does, after hundreds of years of enslavement under the “Rhodesians” supported by White Great Britain and White Amerika,it’s a bad thing?

Any progressive person knows what really going on in Zimbabwe. Mugabe wants to take back control of the country’s resources and put them in the hands of the right full owners who are the black africans. Now Britain, the fomer coloniser cant allow this cos this means an end to the looting of Zimbabwe’s minerals that they have been doing for centuries now. They cant control Mugabe and have tried in every way to get rid of him and replace him with this puppet MDC. MDC is funded by the british. The British are also using the media to paint a picture of a crisis so they can put pressure on the country. The country is suffering from sanctions from britain and her allies and they r looking to impose more sanctions. Its the same old tactics that have been used by imperialists to maintain control over Africa. All this is because of the mineral wealth of Africa. How can Mugabe be a dictator when hes country holds elections every 5 years and his party doesnt even have the majority seats in parliament which is like the lower house. He even lost the first round of elections. What kind of dictator allows that???
