Scramble to get out of Mexican night club leaves several dead. In Mexico, end of school year celebrations turned deadly when 12 people lost their lives trying to get out of a crowded Mexico City night club being raided by police. Officers came to the club after getting word alcohol and drugs were being sold to minors, reports CNN. Their arrival to the club, at 6:30 p.m., sent many rushing to the venue’s emergency exit which was partially blocked by cases of beer, according to a government security official. “Many of the people concentrated at the club’s emergency exit, but it was too small and it was there that people died of asphyxia,” Joel Ortega, secretary of public security told a Mexican t.v. station. Two minors and three police officers were among the dead. According to Ortega, there were 500 people in club and more than 500 outside waiting to get in, reports the AP.  The owner of the club (accused of inciting the frantic rush when he used a microphone to announce the raid, and that the club didn’t have enough exits) along with 38 others were arrested as a result of the incident.
