Wrongly Convicted Texas Inmates Get Paid

September 7th, 2009

Texas, which leads the nation in freeing inmates wrongly convicted for crimes, has instituted a new law to turn their misfortune into fortunes. Under the plan, emancipated prisoners will get $80,000 for each year they were incarcerated. In addition, they will receive lifetime annuity payment worth between $40,000 and $50,000 per year. By far, it is the most lucrative compensation package for inmates, according to The Associated Press. Thomas McGowan – who described the 23 years he spent behind bars on a bogus rape-robbery conviction a combination of “a nightmare,” “hell” and “slavery – said he is both nervous and excited. “It’s something I never had, this amount of money,” he told AP. “I didn’t have any money — period.” McGowan and others will also receive a variety of social services, such as job training, tuition credits and access to medical and dental treatment, AP reports.

I found a great place
_______RichChats.com______It ’s where you have the opportunity dreaming about dating a millionaire and make it true! I thought everyone needed to meet some miracle after all the terrible stuff in the news and the economy

Good program, hopefully it will be financed. The government wrongly took these men’s lives away so the government needs to compensate them for the lost. Money is adequate compensation whereas time and dreams can not be replaced.

That’s the least they can get. Their is no pricetag for the most important adult years of someone’s life.

I’m absolutely disgusted by people who initiate lawsuits that get or attempt to get more than they should be paid. Examples are the frivilous suits that milk the defendent for “emotional pain and distress.” With that said, I feel altogether differently about anyone who is wrongfully convicted. Someone who was wrongfully conviceted should sue the court for the miscarriage of justice, the Department of Corrections for any failure to provide protection from other inmates, any inmates who made life in prison miserable along with anyone else. You can’t put a price tag on lost years.

Chance: No it was not the same company. Premeir Global Productions was the company with this particular stage.

they should get something, but 80K per year is a bit excessive! in the meantime can we bill them at least $3 per day for living expenses while they are in prison? It’s the biggest scam going….

BD Johnson Said on

To ignorant GINA LEE would you like to take this man’s place in prison for 23 more years for something you did not do…maybe they can arrange that for you. Freedom is priceless…if it was your brother, son. father or cousin or yet maybe YOU… you may have a different opinion ya think!!! Forget you girl. Stay prayed up my brother, there is a GOD.

ok I think that is great but where are we getting this money from. Will it come from the different States where the person was sent to jail or is this just a general thing where tax payers everywhere will be contrubuting to this. We need to know this information before this becomes something that we do. We are already in a financial bind and need some air so whats going on with this now is it just something else to stress out our tax payers. Maybe just make it a one time thing not a life time thing make them go out and get a job and there is nothing wrong with working for your money.

RED NECK HUNTER Said on

I WAS SET UP A FEW TIMES BUT NEVER WENT TO JAIL FOR IT, I EXPOSED HOW I WAS BEING SET UP. A LOT OF PEOPLE JUST DON’T HAVE THE MIND POWER OR THE SUPPORT TO FIGHT PEOPLE IN POWER WHO PUT PEOPLE IN JAIL FOR NO REASON. I STILL SAY THEY HAVE TO BE SOME TYPE OF LAW THAT PUNISH THE PEOPLE WHO DO THIS , IT WILL STOP ALOT PEOPLE SPENDING HALF OF THEIR LIVES IN JAIL FOR NO REASON.

Thank God someone has a heart to right a wrong, to bad for those who have passed away early that were innocent & didn’t get this chance to right their wrong. Just think there are still innocent people who have not been given this chance. Hopefully more truth will come out for other innocent people in this country. And to the men that’s receiving this money, I just say please live wisely and help others when you can.

being in prison for over 23 years, the world is going to look different to him when he gets out.. I hope that he have someone to support him. Someone whos not going to take advantage of his wealth, helping him to get the adequate job training skills, possibly with the money he gets, he can start his own business.

the world is going to be a culture shock for him and he’s going to need all the help that he can get. But! he can’t go wrong if he allows God to lead the way.

WHO IN THE WORLD WOULD EVEN THINK ABOUT TEXAS, DOING ANYTHING CORRECT TO A BLACK BROTHER. THEY GIVE TIME TO A BLACK MAN, LIKE HE STILL WAS, AND IS, A RUNAWAY SLAVE.

WHATEVER THEY GIVE , IT ISNT ENOUGH. JUST BEING IN PRISON, FOR 60 DAYS, CAN CHANGE A PERSON, FOR EVER. YOUR LIFE WILL FOREVER BE CHANGED, FOREVER
