A Coo for Clinton

Posted Oct. 12, 2007 – Georgia Congressman John Lewis, a longtime friend and loyal supporter of the first Clinton Administration, announced today he’s endorsing Sen. Hillary Clinton’s (D-N.Y.). In doing so, he denies Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), a fellow member of the Congressional Black Caucus, the honor.
It’s been suspected he would, and now it’s official. Lewis pushed back when I asked him earlier this year if he’d had decided whom to support, which feed hopes Obama might get his endorsement.
No such luck.
“I have looked at all the candidates, and I believe that Hillary Clinton is the best prepared to lead this country at a time when we are in desperate need of strong leadership,” Lewis said.
“I am proud and deeply honored to have the support of John Lewis, a great American hero. John helped transform this nation, and his vital role in establishing civil rights for all Americans will never be forgotten,” Clinton said.
This comes at a bad time for Obama. Clinton is leading in national polls by double digits. In recent months,she surged ahead in fundraising, and they are only separated by a few points in Iowa and New Hampshire polls.
It’s not clear how Obama will play in the south so adding Lewis to fellow Black Georgia congressmen Sanford Bishop and freshman Hank Johnson wouldn’t have hurt.
Now that Lewis has signed on with Clinton, the “big get” will be House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D- S.C.). He’s one of the most powerful men in Congress, and he’s from the first southern state with a primary. He may opt to stay neutral until the pack of candidates is smaller.
Lewis joins the list of lawmakers, Rep. Charles Rangel(D-N.Y.), and the newest member, Laura Richardson (D-Calif.). Obama has secured his home state members of the Congressional Black Caucus and now has about a dozen Black lawmakers in his camp.
With 43 members in the Black caucus, the number of undecided lawmakers is shrinking.

I know that everyone think that racist is an issue but there is also a racist between men and women. I think that there as been enough men in the White House, it is time for a women. Hillary Clinton is a strong woman, and she would make an excellent President. I understand that it is time for a Black President but I would have preferred a Black Women President.

I for one think that Mrs. Clinton will be a better service for our country. This has nothing to to with nrace, but who is the better person for the job. I wasa talking to a young lady who said she was voying for Obama just because he WAS black. No matter what he said and/or did, but because he was black she got his vote. My people, this will set us up for failure. The first black president will have many things to over come and prove just because he is black. He/She will be the target of not only crtisium, but assasination plots, policy making and more. My thinking is if he even makes it to VP we have a very strong chance in election years to follow. I love m y people, but I have to think logically on the issue, and that is we need a qaulified candidate running with experience and a plan to move us forward.
Hopefully if she is elected, Hillary will open the books on Bush I/Bush II and Bill will stay far away from them this time.
Hopefully she will also speak for the environmentalists and little people (aka middle class) and not the corporate elite.
The best person for the job should be the first and only concern. This country has lost too much time and lives arguing over what’s black and white. If we are to move forward, we must look to the past, the real reason this country came to be and remember ” One nation” with freedom and justice for all, not just some.
Whether its a Hillary/Obama ticket or an Obama/Hillary ticket, all would argue that either would be a first-class ticket. Leave the race/gender issue out of it and encourage both candidates to unite with each and unite this divided country. Based on Willis’ comment above, there are obviously those who remain gender-biased. Willis, notice I spelled “there” correctly.
I would love to see Obama in office it just does not seem like his time. I think at this time that Mrs. Clintion is a better fit at this time for the job. I am not looking at the color in this matter truly they are both dynamic and very open to the issues of the African Americal people but who is the better leader? Obama from what I have seen lacks confidence in the face of the public. In all of the debates that I have watched he seems to lack that power that he is going to need in order to make people believe in him. In my opinion it is a win for the African American community because Senator Clintion believes and invest in us. Just like Obama does so we win either way the coin falls

I cant believe people dont think that race has anything to do with this race. People, its only been 50 years think about that. Im very much certain that Hillary will win or some Repulican.It erks me to hear that a black president would have to much on his are her own plate to run this country and it makes me turn purple to hear african amercians make these stupid statements, no wonder our kids are under educated we dont beleive in ourselves to achive great things. Hillary will be no diffent than her husband and believe me he didnt do much for our communities if so please show me.But this is what you will see Bill, George Sr BUSH(they are friends)in Africa taking smoking mirror pictures WHY? Although I respect the fact that Obama is in the running for President, I truly think Hilary is the best candidate, because she has a LOT of experience with America AS A WHOLE. I also feel that if Obama wins the election, he would be ONLY considered as the BLACK PRESIDENT & not President of the United States. He would probably have death threats ALL OVER the country. His family would probably have to be literally CARRIED by Secret Service EVERYWHERE they go. I also think that MANY, MANY, MANY of us (Black people) would feel that Obama OWES us (our race) something. If a lot of pressure was put on BILL CLINTON to step up for our race, what kind of PRESSURE you think OBAMA would feel????? *KERPLUNK!!!!* Weighted down. Po’ thang..lol

I think that if Obama wins he should have a split double at the parade! I really think that all the Clintons and Bushes need not to focus on thier dynasty in America. Let America grow! Why She Cant grow? Why everyone wants America to exemplify the White face! we are more than green and white!
Hillary will continue this stupid war folks. We need someone who will get us out. Otherwise, look for the draft to be started up again and guess who will be on the front lines…..US!

I chose Barack over Hillary but I do believe both individuals will make excellent presidents. I just hope our people are voting for “Hillary” because of “Bill Clinton”. How stupid was it when they said Bill was our black president….For some reason we thought he was black because he played a sax and said the right words….Bill Clinton did very little for black people and never really stood by us until the Monica Lewisky scandal.
