SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS (Posted March 5, 2008) – Sen. Hillary Clinton bested her top rival Sen. Barack Obama with wins in three of the four state contests. The New York senator won in Rhode Island, Ohio and Texas. Obama’s only primary win was in Vermont.
How did she do it? Clinton was able to secure the White, Latino and senior citizen vote in Texas; in Ohio she won the working class folks concerned about jobs and the economy. Clinton needed a strong showing to stay viable; winning these two large states does just that.
Obama did well among African- American voters, young folks and the well educated. But he didn’t win over enough Latino voters in Texas or older voters in Ohio. Clinton bested him by getting more late deciders in both states.
Clinton told her supporters in Columbus, Ohio, “For everyone here in Ohio and across America who’s been ever been counted out but refused to be knocked out, for everyone who has stumbled but stood right back up, and for everyone who works hard and never gives up — this one is for you. You know what they say,” she said. “As Ohio goes, so goes the nation. Well, this nation’s coming back and so is this campaign.”
Obama congratulated Clinton on her victories, but played down her wins, saying they didn’t net her more delegates, and remains ahead in the race for pledged delegates. Obama decided to direct his remarks toward the future Republican challenger, Arizona Sen. John McCain. McCain secured enough delegates Tuesday to win the Republican nomination.
“Because John McCain may claim long history of straight talk and independent-thinking, and I respect that. But in this campaign, he’s fallen in line behind the very same policies that have ill-served America. He has seen where George Bush has taken our country, and he promises to keep us on the very same course,” Obama said.
Cherri McCormick, an African American from San Antonio, is a tax collector for the city and is still optimistic Obama can win the nomination. “It’s a pretty close race, but he’s got fresh ideas, he’s smart and intelligent,” she said.
Now the Obama campaign will have to re-tool and decide how t0 rebound from Tuesday night’s set backs. The Clinton camp turned up the heat on the freshman senator and it worked. That barrage of attacks may have been enough to influence those voters deciding in the last 48 hours.
African-American lawmaker, Rep. Al Green, (D-Tex) told me, “It’s not over yet, he [Obama] knew it would be close; but at the end of the day he’ll have the same delegate lead.” Green’s district near Houston delivered for Obama.
The Clinton camp feels the momentum turning their way. While Obama leads the delegate count with an estimated 1,451 delegates and Clinton has an estimated 1365, the nominees will need 2024 to secure the nomination.
One things for sure, the second “Super Tuesday” didn’t deliver an inevitable Democratic nominee.

i was disappointed that she won too, but now is the time to support our own. yeah i said it. if hillary can go out and court the white women vote and for them to put her over the top, then we need to be out there in droves to support barack.
and barbra bush, you should really do some research on the clintons because a lot of us do believe that they are shady and don’t belong back in the white house
THE REASON WHY SOME BLACKs AND HISPANIC IS NOT VOTING FOR OBAMA is because they are afraid of losing their jobs because their bosses are voting for HILL, afraid of the brilliant light that black people gives off.
Hillary used every scare tactic and dirty trick she could to get these three wins! My question is should anyone who uses trickery hold the highest office in this COUNTRY!?
Im shooting all the way for Hillary as a black women but in all honesty, I believe McCain will beat out either one of them in the end. My father worked as a volunteer at a polling site and noticed a high majority of republicans voting on behalf of Hillary. Why? McCain has it in the bag and it didnt matter how it went HE had the republican votes. They dont want to see Obama in the presidential race regardless, so they are aiming to oust him out. Hillary wont win either sadly.
BARACK OBAMA PRAYER BAND
Scripture:Job 1:10
Has not thou made a hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? Thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
I do believe Barack Obama the man, is here for such a time as this. In believing this yourself won’t you join me in being vigilant in a concert of prayer to put and keep a protective HEDGE around him and his family. Time for a change, and change has come.
I agree with blogger, “My Thoughts,” this is a Republican set-up. Mc Cain wants to battle Senator Obama, and he won’t give “Senator Obama a pillow” as Saturday Night Live so eloquently portrayed it. Do you peeps really think Obama can successfully battle Mc Cain? Not no, but… Wake-up. Obama do like Eminem did in the movie “8 mile”, put your skeletons out there… Then there’d be no scandal… Amercan will forgive your past. You see no one blackmails Oprah… Take note. Anyway go Mrs Clinton you’re the Democrats hope. But, remember, Mc Cain got skills, “he aint no joke.”
All man that witch is coming up…. You better do what you have to do OBMAMA
Obmama is goin 2 win,Hillary need to sit down……………….
I am responding in agreement with Darlene from the March 5th comment. I too was sick when that hispanic woman said that on CNN last week. It is our people who made way and fought for a lot of things. Dr. King did it for all races not just blacks. People are of such ignorance. If you really want to go there our black blood runs through many peoples veins. We shed too many tears and too much blood and yet we still get no respect. Hispanic people(not all but some) have the nerve to be racist toward black people. Our race is so accepting of other cultures and diversity but when it comes to someone accepting us we get the cold shoulder. At the end of the day it is not about black or white, man or woman we need someone that brings change to this country we as a nation are moving backward. Bush did enough damage for the past eight years. The economy is shot, families have lost loved ones in the war and jobs are few and far between. Wake up America we really need to to think about who would be beneficial for all of us. We are a divided nation that is why we are so ignorant to what we as a nation will truly prosper from. We have 8 months to get it together. Let’s Do It!
I support Obama!
Hillary Clinton hasn’t been truthful
Hillary Clinton hasn’t been honest
Hillary Clinton wants to change the rules now that she is losing the delegates
Hillary Clinton can’t even properly lead her own campaign this is obvious by the infighting and public arguing between her representatives.
Hillary Clinton can’t balance a budget this is obvious due to having to leand herself 5 million dollars when she started off with more money than Obama.
Hillary Clinton mismanged 30 million dollars in her run for Senate and used some of that money to finance her Presidential Bid.
Hillary Clinton is currently being sued for her alleged lies about her ties to Peter Paul and the Million Dollar Campaign Fundraiser has had on her behalf
Hillary Clintons Hillraiser Denis Rich paid for her husband to be pardoned by bill Clinton.
Hillary Clintons campaign has benefitted from all her earmarks to Corporate America.
Hillary Clinton and Her Co-President Bill Clinton were the co-presidents who authorized the military to storm into the household of Elian Gonzalez family in 2000 and send him back to Cuba.
Hillary Clinton lied to NY and never provided the jobs she promised on the Campaign trail
Hillary Clinton will not release her returns until it’s too late for us to realize we have been duped.
Hillary and Bill Clinton have benefitted from the War and have ties to several middle eastern countries as apparent by the millions of dollars they have donated to the clinton library.
Hillary Clinton is for sale to the highest corporate bidder and insurance company and pharmacutical company.
So a VOTE for Hillary is a vote to give our country away to a desperate due anything politician with a loyalty to special interests…PERIOD!!
OBama 08!
Also,i was only 10 at the time, but i remember all the chaos and violence at the 1968 Democratic Convention in Chicago…Guess what? We are heading that way if the DNC dosen’t get things straightened out quickly. If the Super-Delegates decide for Clinton but, Obama has more delegates…Mike Baisden will have all of black America on a bus to Denver,Co.to protest and all HELL would break loose…
Get A Grip, I agree with you completely.
We need to stop acting like Hilary has won the nomination just because she won 3 states.
Obama is still ahead in the delegate count and in the final analysis, that is what counts.
Go Obama08
Great job to both canidates! Everybody knows IF Hillary wins who’s really going to run the White House! To Choice Voter..great word! To Tari..Obama is not out the race! How about Hillary under Obama!! To Neymda.. you made the statement Hillary is the right one and she LIKE her husband!?!…what about LOVE her husband..they not dating but married. Anyway Obama you have my support!
BTW quit censoring. These are important discussions and as long as someone isn’t violating some sort of posted rules…I want my voice heard.
Go Hillary….You have many African Americans still supporting you! HILLARY 08!
It doesn’t matter if every African-American in the country came together to support Obama he still wouldn’t win. It going to take more than our 13% of the population to win an election.
Shawn,
Go Hillary? Really? African-American support when the Clinton machine is trying to marginalize and downplay the black vote. Have you been in a cave the last several months when both Clintons have insulted African-Americans and the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King? If you support your candidate Hillary you better know what she really stands for and not the idealized bs that they talk about on TV.
There’s dirt on ALL the candidates.
The media is at fault for Barack’s lost on Super Tuesday. When Hillary pulled the victim card, the media does what it always does swing far to the other side attempting to prove they are not bias. When Hillary did not have the money for the 3 am ad. The media played it over and over for her and disguised it as a news story. They played Barack’s ad once as a news story. The media played that Saturday Night Live spoof over and over again. Have you noticed on the debates when Hillary is caught in a lie, like the issue with Florida and Michigan her response is “Oh it will work itself out”. Or she will cry and just get defensive instead of answering the question. And the media (moderator) lets her get away with it.
Barack needs to talk about his accomplishments in the Illinois and US Senate. He has been elected into office twice. Hillary once. Barack should talk less about his days as an organizer and more about his accomplishment as a State and US Senator. Also, he was a Civil Rights attorney.
