Costly “Do-Overs” in Michigan and Florida

Posted March 6, 2008 – If talk continues about “do-over’’ primaries in Michigan and Florida, one things for sure, both Democratic candidates will have the cash on hand to compete in those states.
Sen. Barack Obama’s campaign raised $55 million in February. This cash haul breaks all previous records by any presidential candidate. The campaign continues to bring in small donations from new donors and additional donations from folks who haven’t maxed out their contribution limit.
Sen. Hillary Clinton’s campaign announced she raised $4 million since her wins in Texas and Ohio on March 4; bringing her March fundraising figure to $6 million. In February the Clinton campaigned reported raising $35 million.
If the Dems decide to hold another primary or caucus in Michigan and Florida, the states may request the candidates pitch in to help ease the states cost burden. Michigan hasn’t got the cash-on-hand required for a “do-over” and Florida is estimating a primary would cost the state as much as $25 million dollars.
Both Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm (D) and Florida Governor Charlie Crist R) say it’s “reprehensible” the people in their states won’t have a voice in the 2008 presidential race. They forget it’s because their states decided to ignore party rules and hold early primaries.
What do you think the states should do?
They should not include the previous votes because they were banned for having primaries too early. If they want to do a do-over, I think that is a bad idea as well. You can make a rule then try to come back after the fact and change it to include someting that wasn’t allowed in the first place. Hillary needs to stop her crying and be a “man” about the situation.

I am from Chicago…and I was a member of Trinity as many people from Chicago. If they man says he is a born again Christian then he is. We are a culture of different religions and make ups. We see that Clinton is trying to subconscious us race to separate us and have us confused.
Don’t believe the hype…review the issues and make your judgments. Obama made a mistake thinking people would listen to reason and solutions without the Gossip. That people and stand up and make a change. Well he learned that rumors are more powerful than truth. Also that white folks love to change the rules when it benefits them.
If we are given rules and abide by them, and someone comes behinds and change the rules because it didn’t fall in there favor. It’s like shooting dice and losing and trying to take your money up. The underhandedness of Obama’s side is to prevent Hillary from getting her winning votes in FL & MI. Who subscribes to dirty politics? Obama. When Obama had more popular votes and losing in delegates he was proclaiming the fair way was to have superdelegates align with their states popular vote choice. Now that he has more delegates and has lost more states in popular votes he is proclaiming the fair determining factor is the number of delegates a candidate has. I am from Michigan, and I say no we should not vote again. Our Political Leaders knew what they were doing when they voted for this move. So now they realize when they are up for relection a lot of voters will remember what happened and they will lose their seat.
The Clintons have been dirty their entire political career. I at one point had respect for the Clintons until I see just how down and dirty they are willing to go. The other day she said her and John M could handle a crisis, but Obama couldnt. Last I checked they were both democrats so for her to be uplifting JM and downplaying Obama again is out of control. If Obama doesnt get the nomination then im not voting thanks to the way the clintons have behaved. I believe there is a tool on CNN.com that clearly shows…Hill cannot win…the superdelegates won’t even be necessary….if she wants to continue this…based on the math on 6/7 in PR WHEN Barack wins he would have enough delegates to secure the nomination. The unfortunate thing is, given the Clintons, before they bow out or lose they will aim to destroy the party…..but that is who they are…..
Thankfully, there is a candidate who can bring those disenfranchised by the Clintons back into the party to win the White House and get things done in Washington….
Hillary is Losing! The only way Mich. and Fl. should be counted is if there is another election process. To seat what was already done, would be disenfranchisement because millions of Dems. did not come out to vote because they were told their vote would not count. So a small % came out in Florida, and most were Clinton supporters. That of course, is why Clinton wants the delegates in this bogus election to be seated. Obama wasn’t even on the Mich. ballot so you couldn’t vote on him –so of course those who voted –did so for Clinton.
If it is about fairness, then the election process should be re-done completely! Fl. and Mich. officials should not have moved the primary date–they agreed not to be seated, so the only reason there is even a discussion is because Hillary is losing the nomination, and needs to pull some under-handed move, like the one we had in 2000, in order to get the Nomination.
By in large, Obama supporters will not vote for Hillary if she is the nominee. Obama is President material, not V.P. Hillary, with her childish tricks and temper tantrums is not Pres. or V.P. material, and maybe can act periodically on an “advisor” level, although Obama’s judgement in obviously more sound.
Hillary should “bow-out” now, for the sake of the Dem. Party!
the canidates agreed before the primary and caucus that what ever state break the rules their delegates wouldnt be seated hillary agreed to that now since she has no chance in the world to beat barack obama in delegates in states and most of all popular votes she is crying to have them counted shame on u hillary

I think they should have a “do-over” but not the way it has been suggested.That suggestion is a mail-in vote which will open the door for fruad.
Hillary is the only one who ran in both states,Sen. Obama and John Edwards followed the rules and did not have their names on the ballot.
Now that there are two remaining it is only fair that both camps should contribute to the do-over in Florida,the cost is $25 million,therfore both camps should cough up $5 million each since the overall cost is $25 million.It would be political malpratice for the Democratic party too not include both states in the nominating process.
No do overs. The rules are the rules. I can not believe the candidates are even entertaining the idea. I did not donate to my candidates campaign to have them waste the money on states that have officials who can not follow the rules. Why should we pay for their error? The media is pumping this thing up to cause an uprise. This is old news and people are already aware of the situation.
I’m am laughing at how many of you say that over 2 million voters should have their votes thrown out because you want the black candidate to win the nomination. If the shoe were on the other foot and Obama won those states every one of his supporters would be crying to do a re-vote. And Black America is supposed to be ready for Change? PLEASE!

What’s the point of having rules if we are going to through them out or rewrite them in the middle of the game.
CNN ran a report last night showing that even if Michigan and Florida re-votes Hillary will not recieve enough delegates for the nomination. Why should we pay for their mistakes. Change is needed to get away from these crazy tactics to win (Bush/Gore repeat).
