The Green Eyes of Envy

By Pamela Gentry, Senior Political Producer

Posted May 1, 2008— The saddest part of the recent shenanigans by the Rev. Jeremiah Wright will be that if he succeeds in derailing Sen. Barack Obama’s journey to the White House  he will have shamed himself, the Black clergy and Black America, all in one fell swoop.

Yesterday my blog was swamped with theories of why Wright went so wrong.  Some folks feel Wright was an instrument of the opposition to Obama’s candidacy, but everyone was curious about Wright’s motivation.

Not me, I think it was as simple as jealousy.

Donna wrote in my blog, “The good Rev. is showing his true colors! He has shamed all of us in his betrayal and backstabbing of one of his own, Obama.  This man is speaking and doing the White man’s work for him.”

Donna isn’t the only one questioning the motives of the retired pastor. But what if – faced with retirement and the reality of a less public future – he envisioned each public appearance as his last grandstand.  That may explain why each event became more animated, more gregarious and more inflammatory.

Everyone I spoke with today had a theory: Some blamed Sen. Hillary Clinton’s camp, because Wright was seated next to former USA Today columnist Barbara Reynolds, a Clinton supporter, who actually organized the event.  Reynolds is also on the National Press Club board.

Some suspect the Republican Party had offered Wright a future in the party in exchange for eliminating Obama from the competition.  I was reminded of the Rev. T.D. Jakes,, the pastor of a Dallas megachurch, who aligned himself with President Bush at a crucial time in the last presidential election.

But I think this was all about Wright.  He’s from a different time and a recalls a different reality.  He can’t see the future of a Black man like Obama because of what he witnessed in the past.

And that’s the sad part.  Even though he’s preached for progress, he didn’t recognize it; protested for justice, he couldn’t distinguish it; and prayed for equal opportunity but failed to acknowledge it, even when it was right before his eyes.

to my people: First of all, Mr. Wright (not Rev….call no man Reverand for Reverand and holy is HIS name)…….anywho………..Mr. Wright was not wrong in anything he has said or done. First he told the truth and white folk could not handle the truth….they hate Obama and they used his membership in Wright’s congregation against him. What has Wright done that is so wrong???? Called us jungle bunnies like some of the famous newscaster’s have done? Has Mr. Wright voted to keep the Davis Bacon act alive against black men??? Has Mr. Wright voted against Affirmative action??? All of the news casters have! Is Mr. Wright voting to keep old and young blacks from voting? Is Mr. Wright discriminating against fellow black Secret Service agents? Is Mr. Wright preventing progress in Jenna, in New Orleans. Is Mr. Wright supporting inhumane acts against black and hispanic prisoners? Is Mr. Wright continously denying black and hispanic veterans all kinds of help that they so richly deserve? Then WHAT!!!!!!

I don’t always agree with your views, and most times feel that some of these articles come off a little more than biased or slanted (not necessarily in a positive light). However, I feel this article was very well stated!

Divide and conquer has been the successful tactic that the white man has used in the past and is using it now. Before we lob these allegations at Rev Wright, we need to have proof or atleast interview the man. Those who will vote for Obama will continue to vote for Obama. Afterall, Obama is Obama and Rev Wright is himself. Stop bundling them all together as one and stick to the mission at hand, which is most important. VOTE TO GET OBAMA INTO THE WHITE HOUSE! Stop all this bickering and get those who aren’t registered, to register. Don’t let this be the vessel that sinks our only chance to get this country out of the woes that we are in, and get this capable candidate into his rightful place.

Pamela….Your views and opinions are slanted towards Obama and do not speak for all of Black America. All African-Americans are convinced that everything has to racially motivated simply because Barack is running for the Oval Office. Some of have minds of our own and can think for ourselves. Please stop trying to “sell” Barack Obama to everyone.

READ between the lines in the lines if columnist Barbara Reynolds organized the event who is a Clinton supporter. Lou Dobbs said on CNN “how long will Hillary pay the reverend for this” we are to smart of a people to not see through the set up. I have been watching CNN every since the election started and picked on all the before and after schemes towards Barack Obama. So do that answer your questions about the reverend. If this did really happened yeah, same on the reverend.

NOW ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, HE SPOKE ONCE, IT’S GETTING OUT OF HAND NOW. I THINK THAT THE MORE THE SPEAKS THE MORE OBAMA SINKS. PEOPLE SHOULD NOT VIEW THE WHOLE PICTURE FOR WHAT HE SAY, BUT HE REALLY IS ACTING LIKE A DRAMA KING, AND HE NEEDS TO GO SIT DOWN, RIGHT NOW IT’S NOT THE TIME FOR THIS. SOME THINGS HE SAY I AGREE, BUT MOST I DON’T, GO HAVE A SEAT REV WRIGHT, HE IS TRYING TO BE IN THE MEDIA AND THE MEDIA IS LIKE WOLVES IN THE DARK, READY TO PUT SOME TYPE OF NEG AND NOT POS OUT THERE. WRIGHT GET OUT OF THE LIGHT IT’S NOT YOUR TIME TO SHINE, IT’S OBAMA……… GO OBAMA

It’s funny how hypocrital some folks can be. Last week everyone that blogged was supporting Rev. Jeremiah Wright to the fullest and now you all have thrown a knife in his back just like Barack did. People you all just want a black President by any means. Most of you could care less about the issues at hand. If Barack was true white guy with the same message of change he wouldn’t have over 90% of the black vote and that’s 4REAL!

the Clintons knew Wright personally also, there are pics of them together. Along with Hillary camp contacting him. Yes the Clintons did part a part. I know the Clintons are have never been convicted or punished for any of their wrong doing. But I don’t believe any threats coming from Clinton make him do this. Yes i do believe and know they make good on threats. We all know that. I still believe it was his ego. Now that he may have torn America at large. He can think about what he has also done to his 40 of service. It is no longer worth anything, nor is he.

  13. Summer on May 1st, 2008

Missy, what do you know about blacks, obviously not much..last time I check Bill Clinton was white..The reason most of us are upset ant Pastor Wright is we are asking ourselves what is his motive, why is he now getting the crab mentality. He could have address the issue without mentioning Barack’s name, if he had his best interest in mind. I will repeat Pastor Wright is not running for President, Barack Obama is, why are they giving him that much press time..

I rarely agree with any of BET’s columnist but this article is on point. Rev Wright (and those who support him) live in a false reality. America’s history has enough real tragedy, slavery happened, reconstruction happened, jim crow happened. But despite all of those things here we are. We don’t need to make any of it up. Anyone who believes the government gave black people AIDS is simply delusional. Good on BET for having the courage to say what was right. Please try to make it a habit.

  16. vcsc on May 1st, 2008

The Clintons knew Wright personally. There are pic of Wright with Bill. Clintons did play a part in his TV appearance. Her camp contacted Wright.Clintons are known for their threats and make good on them. But I don’t think that is why Wright chose to do this. I believe it was his ego. Wright can attribute his time spent as a paster, and any respect the world had for him. He is now the man that torn down America’s people and his own career for the sake of his ego.

  17. Da'Truth on May 1st, 2008

This outrageously biased high school essay is the very reason why Blacks stays divided. The truth is as a black race we are the most hardened of hypocrites. Now I know ya’ll remember how we was getting crunk and throwin’ luv to Rev. Wright because he was misunderstood. Now this brotha defends himself and we wanna act beside ourselves. Our hypocrisy is gonna cost us the election because we cant get hatred and division out of our hearts. Until we learn to take our own criticisms and learnd to love and embrace our bretheren, we will always remain oppressed - BY OUR OWN HANDS!

NOT JUST NOW BUT EVEN BEFORE OBAMA EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT RUNNING, YA DIG. AT THE END OF THE DAY OBAMA, JUST LIKE ALL PRESIDENTS OR PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES BEFORE HIM, IS MERELY A FIGUREHEAD THAT CARRIES OUT THE ORDERS OF “THE POWERS THAT BE.” McCAIN’S WALKIN THRU NEW ORLEANS SHAKE BLACK FOLKS HANDS WILL OBAMA IS DISTANCING HIMSELF FROM BLACK THEOLOGY… I’M JUSS SAYIN…

Well Missy, I was not one of those people who supported Rev Wright when he first came out. I thought he was ridiculous then and I still do. He is coming off like a crazy man. I resent the fact that he says he is representing the black churh. Not any black church Ive ever been to.

  22. Whooggie on May 1st, 2008

The question is not what Mr Wright said but why is Barack held responsible. Do you really think that the Clintons and McCain don’t have friends and family that haven’t said thing that are questionable regarding race? I know that there is someone out there who have footage of them being with these racist people. Why are our people that work for tv or newspapers not looking for this?

This hyperlinked article shows us how we, as a Black people, are being played. NO ONE is scandalizing relationships Hillary has enjoyed with CRIMINALS (including one William Jefferson Clinton, charged with perjury and IMPEACHED). I am appalled and ashamed that we were so easily swayed and manipulated as a people. No talk of issues. No talk of how we envision the FUTURE of this country. How sad.

  25. Ollie Morgan on May 1st, 2008

I invested the time to listen and watch Rev. Wright’s National Press Club appearence. The media soundbites highlighted the answers over the questions. But, his speech was a good one, and historically correct.

Unfortunately, Rev. Wright is putting his own ego ahead of what could be possible, and there is his shame. I can only imagine what Obama feels, and I do pray that his campaign can weather this man made storm.

  26. Ms. Louisiana on May 1st, 2008

Well if you ask me i feel that REV. Wright is going out of juridiction with his position as a Reverend. He just let people and minority’s know just the type of person he really is. Obama is a man of strong determination and leadership for the people and he a strong man to be in his position. Wright you mad and Obama is glad.

  27. Ms. Louisiana on May 1st, 2008

Wright get a life and stop hate on the man that looked up to you once and you lead the people like you was called and let Obama lead the people his way. Stop letting the past STALK you.

  28. CJ on May 1st, 2008

For all of you ignorant, apologetic, boot licking black people that see Rev. Wright as the problem are still living on the plantation in master’s house. Other than speaking the truth where is the problem with what he said? Don’t hate on the messenger when it is the message that really is the issue. Rev. Wright can not derail Obama’s chances to win the Whitehouse because the racist powers that be are going to see to that. It was good while it lasted but Obama does not have a chance in hell to become president. You would have to be slave to blame Rev. Wright for the woes of Obama or the nation.

  29. Kauket Ka Mere on May 1st, 2008

  30. Ronald Woods on May 1st, 2008

People, the good Reverend has stepped over the line with some of his comments…most of what he said in the sermons, while impolitic, were correct. However, the comments on AIDS and his constant barrage of comments are damaging Senator Obama’s chances at the nomination…remember, no matter which candidate wins (I am now for Barack) we need to coalesce around the winner and destroy the hateful John Mccain candidacy…four more years of neocons will destroy this country for the benefit of the right wingers.

  31. mollie on May 1st, 2008

I do agree with some of the things Rev. Wright is saying (I’m still looking forward for my 40 acre and a mule), but if you are a true Obama suppoter(before the Rev. Wright came into play) what ever this man has said should not change no one mind. Obama for 08!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She’s speaking about envy and jealousy, why did she write an article about Rev. Wright vs. Obama? She’s no better. She is a slave-puppet for white owned BET who doesn’t have a clue. Every time African Americans have an issue, the white man has a trained “Tom” on stand-by. THis was all media bull that was used to have black people looking like fools once again. THere is no right or wrong…it’s all politics and media.

  39. yolanda on May 2nd, 2008

Unfortunately black people can’t see through the things that are happening. Obama did not have to keep apologizing for Rev. Wright white people have friends that talk about blcak people all the time. They say mean things about black people all the time. ON TV on the radio, especially when they are talking about sports. WE know all about the players personal history in less than 10 seconds of watching a game.

Last time I checked, we were in America, a free country in which a man had the right to Freedom of Speech. Wright can say wahtever he wants to say and the media, clinton supporters and other haters should me tangling what he says to what Obama is running for. They are 2 seperate people with 1 seperate agendas, why are we still seeing this in the news. Lets vote and get Obama into the House (not the White House cause its been called that for too long, an attempt to only keep whites in it).

I agree with Mrs. G we all need to wake up! I use that as a daily mantra to cope with this twisted and winding world we live in. The actuality and reality is this : Obama is the favorite and it scares white people to DEATH!!!! They will go to any I repeat any lengths to denegrate and destroy and credibility the senator has. The media is attempting to use this as a smokescreen from the fundamentals. The country is in ruins and we are worried about what his PASTOR is saying?!! By November what will it be : Obama’s choice of suit, his car, what he eats for breakfast? Remember my beautiful black people the white (I use this for lack of a better term) man will not stop in his quest for power please remember that avoid this sort of unimportant nonsense! Peace.

Iam starting to think the clintons is behind this hole ordeal as far as Mr jeremiah wright i my self think its not about being jealous of obama its all about the money in this contry. i think the clintons paid money to Rev jeremiah wright to say these harsh things about the man. And i absolutely believe iam not the only american of this free country who believe this, thank you for reading this message. have a nice day and God bless,

I am black and a christian but totally dissagree with Rev. Wright’s behaviour. I am very very dissappointed in Rev J. Wright. His behaviour was totally unacceptable.
He did not show wisdom, foresight and leadership.
It is all about him…and the statement that the media was not attacking him but the black church was just not true……I am very dissapointed in this man and I wish and pray that he will keep mouth shut unless he has a better agenda to heal the wounds and reconcile America. The old civil rights mentality will no longer…it is time for the leaders to think in terms of integration and reconciliation. This approach is totally in line with Dr. Martin luther Kings vision purpose and approach.

If Obama does not win this nomination, Rev Wright would take a bigger portion of the blame.

The pulpit ought to be used for reconciliation and not for divisive comments…

  45. life on May 2nd, 2008

First of all if any one on this message board thinks that Rev. Wright was justified in his actions you are all ignorant. Rev. Wright’s sermon was not biblical and was based on mere ignorance. He made black people look like a bunch of cry baby’s.

  46. RAK on May 2nd, 2008

  47. Diane of Dallas on May 2nd, 2008

All of us know Pastor Wright should have handle this better. It over with and we need to get back to the issue at hand. Nothing that have been said or done will not stop us from voting for Senator Obama. We know this was done so some would lose forcus of the issue. I want to here about gas prices being lower, food prices going down, wages being increased.Healh care for everyone, How to get all my medicine without not paying one of my bill. Wright is wrong. 49. Paula on May 2nd, 2008

forgive me for saying this, but being an african american I feel I can say this. I do believe althogh not trying, that we sabatoge our own sub conciously. I do believe that is what the Rev. is doing. He should just take a code of silence. The more he speaks the more it will sound like rhetoric.
    GOD BLESS, Peace

It is a shame how the black race is backsliding. We have allowed the white race to continue to divide us and tell us what we cannot say in our own homes and churches. This is evidence of how they continue to use the words of a minister. Whites have always done what they wanted to do. They will go to church on Sunday and lynch a blackman afterwards.

I felt bad for obama he has known this man for 20 years and this is the out come, remember he claim he’s a rev but we have to think twice about the rev he suprise everyone some one who call himself a minster have so much anger towards one he need to check himself. It only takes one black to bring down another. Leave obama alone and let him contiue to do what it have to. Rev. J. Wright is either one or the other: jealous of Obama: as a man of God: that is not God’s work, God is not like that, to be that way,God do not run around here hurting people, but is of love, the other is he need help he is stuck in the past and need to to be delivered from who or what hurt him.

  53. GG on May 3rd, 2008

I believe many of us are getting an impression of Wright after his press club appearance that many whites judged from the the few clips shown across the media. Wright appears to be a very proud man that won’t be found in error in anyway, even if others agree that most of what he states is correct. And his personality appears to be so dominant that he won’t be outshined by anyone in his close circle. Many are seeing this immediately from a few media snippets and by observing the way in which Wright minimized the importance of Obama’s campaign if it interfered with him having his say. So the question remains with Obama, why didn’t he make these judgements of Wright, before being put in his place by his “former” pastor? Wright is just being himself.

you know people are funny to me sometimes, they are so blind that they cannot see what’s right in front of their face. there was nothing that rev. wright said that so wrong, as a matter of fact everything that he said was so true. some could argue maybe he could have been a little more humble, but are white people humble when they say and do things that’s not right.NEVER! The man spoke the truth he said because we are different it dosn’t mean that where deficient. He spoke about things dealing with race that the majority of people are already aware of but wont admit to and there is where the problem lies. No they may not be hanging us too much anymore like they did back in his day, but they are hurting us economically. All they’re doing is finding new ways to keep us down as a people, so technically he IS right not much has really changed, they would just like us to believe that things have changed. i feel barack should have been there alot more for his pastor, because regardless of anyone’s position he is a man just like obama and he left him out there to hang dry instead of being real with the situation and not stating the truth just to make his other side content.

    Hypocritical.

  60. Sakonya on May 3rd, 2008

Obama,s whole mantra at first was that he was not race conscious and not running for President of the United States as “a Black man. He was so busy trying to make white folks feel comfortable by being this colorless being. Well, he could have asked O.J., about the “colorless” stance, which always backfires because race in this country is always the 800 lb. gorilla sitting on our chests, whether we acknowledge it or not. Wright is right, in so many of the things he has said, and, he is only defending himself and taking the stance of those who grew up watching the antics of racist whites during the height of the Civil Rights era. He was, in essence, telling them to kiss his a–. He is not the blame for white reaction to Obama. Any fall in the polls among whites is what used to be called “backlash” and backlash is just the manifestation of the same, tired ideas and fears of whites. So far, they haven’t shot Obama with a gun, but, they are trying to use Rev Wright’s comments as bullets instead. White mother or not, I think Obama will truly understand that race is always a factor in anything, any process, at all times, in these United States of Amerikkka. Don’t blame Wright!

AS I SAID BEFORE FIRSTMAN555, OBAMA WILL BE THE FIRST BLACK AFRICAN PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, IF NOT NOW, HE WILL BE TOMORROW, ITS JUST A MATTER OF TIME..

AS FOR THAT REV WRIGHT. CAN SOMEONE SAY .. JEALOUSY MUCH?” ALL THOSE SO CALLED BLACK AMERICAN LEADERS ARE PEE’D OFF COS OBAMA SHOWED THEM THE WAY.. ALL THAT MARCHING IS SO OUT OF DATE , POWER IS WHERE ITS AT.. WHEN YOU CAN GET A VERY DIVIDED AMERICA , A VERY POLARISED AMERICA TO GET ON BOARD, WHEN YOU CAN COMMAND THE RESPECT OF THE REST OF THE WORLD BEFORE YOU HAVE EVEN STARTED TO BROKER POWER, BEFORE YOU HAVE EVEN BEEN SWORN IN LEADERS ACCROSS THE GLOBE TRUST YOU ENOUGH TO WANT TO DO BUSINESS WITH YOU, ITS JUST A MATTER OF TIME.. CLINTON NEEDS THIS GIG, OBAMA IS ON A MISSION TO BRING BACK THE RESPECT AMERICA HAS LOST ON THE PLANET EARTH…

To be honest I loved what Rev. Wright has said. He tells the truth and keeps it real. As a black person you should always stand for truth, for the truth shall set us free! He doesn’t lie, everything he has spoke about is the truth and white people (and some blacks) can not deal with truth. They lie about everything and they have held all nationalies back and have created havoc and turmoil in a lot of peoples lives. Hey, its about time black people stand up and tell whats really going down in the world. I say Rev. Wright keep on keeping it real, its time for the world to wake up to reality and take the blind folders off and see whats really going on!

  71. MIke Mann on May 3rd, 2008

I have never seen the level of racism that I see here against white people. Most of the states Senator Obama has won are 90% + white people. Millions of us want him to win! White racism has been educated out of most white people. Of course not everyone because human beings can be racists. Including blacks. The black people have much more racism than the whites. Look what good it is doing you. I read here The White Man’s doing, The White Man this The White Man that. You’d better take care of your own house because white people aren’t scheming behind your backs, calling you names, etc. We’re too busy living paycheck to paycheck just like you. I think it’s time to look at your own racism.

“MIke Mann” White America has more hatred for the Black once-slaves in her midst who are faithfully fighting on the firing-line to help her against her enemy than she is against the enemy that they are shooting down.

  73. firstman5555 on May 3rd, 2008

“MIke Mann” The American White people are more concerned about mistreating the Black once-slave of America than America is concerned with any nation on earth that is attacking her out-lying posts. Her enemies are intensifying their attacks on her. America is right out of the frying pan into the fire all over the earth, due to her evil intentions against her loyal Black once-slaves. Her talk of evil-doing against the Black once-slave in America is worse than it is against independent nations that are trying to attack and destroy her country.

  74. firstman5555 on May 3rd, 2008

“MIke Mann” White America talks of building concentration camps (prison houses) for the Black once-slave (the Black man in America). I am told that America already has concentration camps built for this purpose. Concentration camps are jail houses—prison houses. This is why I cry day and night to my Black brothers to seek refuge in Allah (God) in such a time as this.

“MIke Mann” Part2 The Muslims do not have to worry about any such imprisonment, for the Muslim is already a citizen of the Nation of Islam, and we have our own people (Muslims) to deliver us by the order of God. This is why it is so necessary that the Black man in America accept Allah (God) and His name and get out of the name of the enemy White slavemaster, who does not seek to bring peace for us; but the enemy seeks to bring about our death.

Amen Mann!! I agree with you!

I am a 45 yr old disabled white man, and an Obama supporter. I work full time, own my own house, and live paycheck to paycheck just like everyone else. Where does all this hating come from? I’m watching my neice and nephew right now, out of my window, jumping on our trampoline with 4 black children having a blast together, so I know we aren’t born with it! If we want Obama to win we Need each other, black and white! So get a grip!

  79. Mike Mahn on May 3rd, 2008

firstman5555 It’s obvious that a real discussion with you is impossible. You are blinded by your own hatred. Senator Obama is currently in the lead as you know, and most of the states he has won have less than 5% African Americans. Who do you think is voting for him? White people. I think it’s because we think he’s the best man to lead this country. Most whites in this country have made a serious effort to unlearn the racism of the past. It looks to me like the vast majority of racial hatred and prejudice occuring now is from African Americans. I don’t know if you can even see it. Your hatred is ruining you. If Obama fails to win it will be because of racial hatred. The racial hatred of Mr. Wright, a black man.

correction meant to post “diatribe..”. and secondly 2wrongs dont make a right.. when it comes to racist propaganda black and white americans come from the same arrogance and the same ignorance.to foreigners it is both unpleasant to read and indicative of the isolation that makes america more than any other nation on this planet one apart and its not in a good way …it means that when americans are hating and fighting each other , they are doing just that.. nobody else cares… all they see are americans doing the usual.

I dont understand how it was fine for us to come together to support a white candidate like Clinton, but if we as blacks throw our support behind a black candidate then its somehow considered racist???

I think we all should come together and do something to save this campain like boycott the news. I believe it is the news and the media that is damaging Barack’s chances. Let’s not sit and get upset at each other because it won’t solve anything. But I do believe an intelligent person would have known that discussing the controversy further would just be fueling the fire. Because of that, Wright must have secret motives as to why he is suddenly acting a fool in front of the cameras. Boycotting would be a great idea.

  105. meesh on May 5th, 2008

I feel the mr wright may be jealous of obama and is intentionally trying to destroy obamas campaign. yes, much of what mr. wright said was true but BE SMART black folks now is not the time to publicize all that when we are trying to get a black president in office. thats the last thing you want to do is mess obama up. of course many white people dont want to hear the truth but lets get real here mr wright is gettin kinda ignorant now. you dont see farrakan speaking out right now or other muslims coming out nationally on tv why? because they have much more wisdom than mr wright.

  106. m jackson on May 5th, 2008

WHILE I DO STAND FOR FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND REALIZE THAT REV WRIGHT HAS/HAD HIS CALLING TO PREACH THE GOSPEL AND THE TRUTH. THERE COMES A TIME WHEN ONE SHOULD REALIZE WHEN HE’S BEING USED BY THE MEDIA AND THOSE WHO OWN IT OR HAVE GREAT INFLUANCE OVER THOSE WHO SUGGEST WHAT WILL RUN IN MAINSTREAM NEWS DAY-TO-DAY. I FEEL THAT BOTH THE CLINTONS AND THE REPUBLICANS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CAMERA’S SHOWNING UP EVERY TIME REV SPEAKS OR EVEN THE REPLAYING OF THE SOUNDBITES. REPUBLICANS WOULD I’M SURE FACE HILARY IN NOV RATHER THAN OBAMA, AND HILARY IS DETERMIED TO BE THE DEMS NOMINEE AT WHAT EVER COST. SO HERE WE ARE WITH THIS DEVIDE AND CONQUER OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE AT A TIME WHEN MR OBAMA HAS GAINED GREAT STRIDE WITH HIS TIMELY MESSAGE OF HOPE AND CHANGE WE CAN BELEIVE IN…WE MUST NOT LOOSE SIGHT OF THE PRIZE AND REMEMBER THE GAMES AND SCHEEMS WILL COME FOR ALL SIDES. THEIR ARE MANY SEEN AND UNSEEN DANGERS AHEAD AND WE MUST STAND STRONG TOGETHER AND LOOK BEYOND ALL THE FALSE REPRESENTATION THAT SEEKS TO KEEP US ALL DOWN…OBAMA FOR AMERICA 2008!

  107. Christine on May 5th, 2008

Whether Wright was “bribed”, or “coerced,” or encouraged, or if he acted of his own volition– only he can take responsibility for the damage he caused to Barack’s candidacy and integrity. Wright himself has harmed the chances of the first viable black candidate who is, ironically, one of his own.

  108. cma on May 5th, 2008

Consider this. What if the Clintons convinced Rev. Wright that Obama couldn’t win and it would be in his best interest to speak negative about him giving Hillary the nomination and then she would in turn make Obama vice president? And of course there is something in it for him also.

Hey, we’re losing focus. Stay focused on the issue at hand. Opportunity has presented itself for a change to occur. Martin Luther King was all about this change & he knew he would not make it to see the change. Malcolm was about the change & he knew he would not make it to see the change. Please people, stay focused. For once in our lives let’s stop being judgmental towards each other & put our energy into making this change happen. Whether we like it or not, it is about race. It has always been about the color of a person’s skin. Don’t get it twisted. Opportunity may not come again.

  111. cma on May 7th, 2008

Amen to that and absolutely agree!!!!!

  112. jacie on May 7th, 2008

I want to say no weapon formed against us shall prosper. Mr. Wright who claims to be a man of God needs to get on his knees and repent for what he has done. God sees everything and will not be mocked. There reason he backstabbed Obama was because he was jeaslous and used every opportunity to join up with the enemy to tear Obama down.

Obama still prevailed and has overcomed and stood his ground.

Mr. Wright will reap what he has sown and he will have to stand before God and be accountable for what he has done.

    God Bless America

CNN have already started to interview his family in kenya am sure it will be a national holiday for them.. lol!

forget that one of his own business , i have never had time for that idea either .!! “everyman for himself and god for us all.” wright was playing and is still playing his own game but what obama did was not publicly distance himself from this fool earliar and louder.. remember where the majority of your votes come from obama,i know he can do this job, said so 18months ago, and put the doubting thomases to shame.. those same doubters are still talking negatively because they dont want to believe that a black man can be president in their lifetime.. but it was just a matter of time …..and if african americans dont want real power cos they are too busy fighting the police, other ethnic groups want that power so they can be the police…

The demonization of Sen. Barack Obama—who has gone from once being labeled “not Black enough” to earn the support of Black voters—to being depicted for White voters as being “too Black,” seems destined to continue all the way to the November general election. So, instead of concentrating the campaign on the serious issues affecting the country, and the overwhelming opposition to the Bush administration’s war in Iraq and economic policies, the Clinton campaign has increasingly targeted the perception that Sen. Obama is “elite,” “out of touch,” and “too liberal” for American voters.

Also, Stop spending all of your money with whitey and other people outside of the black community like a slave, while you let your childrens go to whitey’s failing schools. Please don’t let whitey stop you, or talk you out of it. 126. firstman5555 on May 9th, 2008

No disrespect intended about that Taskmasa, I have to tell the truth…May the prophet Nat Turner spirit live on.

  127. firstman5555 on May 9th, 2008

Nat Turner was singularly intelligent, and learned how to read and write at a young age. He grew up deeply religious and was often seen fasting, praying or immersed in reading the stories of the Bible. He frequently received visions which he interpreted as messages from God. These visions greatly influenced his life; for instance, when Nat was 21 years old he ran away from his owner, but returned a month later after receiving such a vision. Turner often conducted Baptist services, and preached the Bible to his fellow slaves, who dubbed him as “The Prophet”. Turner also had an influence over white people, and in the case of Ethelred T. Brantley, Nat said that he was able to convince Brantley to “cease from his wickedness”. By early 1828, Nat was convinced that he “was ordained for some great purpose in the hands of the Almighty.” While working in his owner’s fields on May 12, Turner “heard a loud noise in the heavens, and the Spirit instantly appeared to me and said the Serpent was loosened, and Christ had laid down the yoke he had borne for the sins of men, and that I should take it on and fight against the Serpent, for the time was fast approaching when the first should be last and the last should be first.” Nat was convinced that God had given him the task of “slay[ing] my enemies with their own weapons.” Nat “communicated the great work laid out for me to do, to four in whom I had the greatest confidence” – his fellow slaves Henry, Hark, Nelson and Sam.
