The Green Eyes of Envy

Posted May 1, 2008— The saddest part of the recent shenanigans by the Rev. Jeremiah Wright will be that if he succeeds in derailing Sen. Barack Obama’s journey to the White House he will have shamed himself, the Black clergy and Black America, all in one fell swoop.
Yesterday my blog was swamped with theories of why Wright went so wrong. Some folks feel Wright was an instrument of the opposition to Obama’s candidacy, but everyone was curious about Wright’s motivation.
Not me, I think it was as simple as jealousy.
Donna wrote in my blog, “The good Rev. is showing his true colors! He has shamed all of us in his betrayal and backstabbing of one of his own, Obama. This man is speaking and doing the White man’s work for him.”
Donna isn’t the only one questioning the motives of the retired pastor. But what if – faced with retirement and the reality of a less public future – he envisioned each public appearance as his last grandstand. That may explain why each event became more animated, more gregarious and more inflammatory.
Everyone I spoke with today had a theory: Some blamed Sen. Hillary Clinton’s camp, because Wright was seated next to former USA Today columnist Barbara Reynolds, a Clinton supporter, who actually organized the event. Reynolds is also on the National Press Club board.
Some suspect the Republican Party had offered Wright a future in the party in exchange for eliminating Obama from the competition. I was reminded of the Rev. T.D. Jakes,, the pastor of a Dallas megachurch, who aligned himself with President Bush at a crucial time in the last presidential election.
But I think this was all about Wright. He’s from a different time and a recalls a different reality. He can’t see the future of a Black man like Obama because of what he witnessed in the past.
And that’s the sad part. Even though he’s preached for progress, he didn’t recognize it; protested for justice, he couldn’t distinguish it; and prayed for equal opportunity but failed to acknowledge it, even when it was right before his eyes.
I have never seen the level of racism that I see here against white people. Most of the states Senator Obama has won are 90% + white people. Millions of us want him to win! White racism has been educated out of most white people. Of course not everyone because human beings can be racists. Including blacks. The black people have much more racism than the whites. Look what good it is doing you. I read here The White Man’s doing, The White Man this The White Man that. You’d better take care of your own house because white people aren’t scheming behind your backs, calling you names, etc. We’re too busy living paycheck to paycheck just like you. I think it’s time to look at your own racism.
“MIke Mann” White America has more hatred for the Black once-slaves in her midst who are faithfully fighting on the firing-line to help her against her enemy than she is against the enemy that they are shooting down.
“MIke Mann” The American White people are more concerned about mistreating the Black once-slave of America than America is concerned with any nation on earth that is attacking her out-lying posts. Her enemies are intensifying their attacks on her. America is right out of the frying pan into the fire all over the earth, due to her evil intentions against her loyal Black once-slaves. Her talk of evil-doing against the Black once-slave in America is worse than it is against independent nations that are trying to attack and destroy her country.
“MIke Mann” White America talks of building concentration camps (prison houses) for the Black once-slave (the Black man in America). I am told that America already has concentration camps built for this purpose. Concentration camps are jail houses—prison houses. This is why I cry day and night to my Black brothers to seek refuge in Allah (God) in such a time as this.
“MIke Mann” Part2 The Muslims do not have to worry about any such imprisonment, for the Muslim is already a citizen of the Nation of Islam, and we have our own people (Muslims) to deliver us by the order of God. This is why it is so necessary that the Black man in America accept Allah (God) and His name and get out of the name of the enemy White slavemaster, who does not seek to bring peace for us; but the enemy seeks to bring about our death.

I am a 45 yr old disabled white man, and an Obama supporter. I work full time, own my own house, and live paycheck to paycheck just like everyone else. Where does all this hating come from? I’m watching my neice and nephew right now, out of my window, jumping on our trampoline with 4 black children having a blast together, so I know we aren’t born with it! If we want Obama to win we Need each other, black and white! So get a grip!

firstman5555 It’s obvious that a real discussion with you is impossible. You are blinded by your own hatred. Senator Obama is currently in the lead as you know, and most of the states he has won have less than 5% African Americans. Who do you think is voting for him? White people. I think it’s because we think he’s the best man to lead this country. Most whites in this country have made a serious effort to unlearn the racism of the past. It looks to me like the vast majority of racial hatred and prejudice occuring now is from African Americans. I don’t know if you can even see it. Your hatred is ruining you. If Obama fails to win it will be because of racial hatred. The racial hatred of Mr. Wright, a black man.
