The West Virginia Factor?
By Pamela Gentry, Senior Political Producer
Posted May 13, 2008 – Today’s Democratic primary in West Virginia will most likely be an anti-climactic victory for Sen. Hillary Clinton. And her spin machine is churning out reasons why the New York senator should remain in the race until June 3, after the last primary in South Dakota.
On Monday Clinton campaigned in West Virginia and framed her projected win there as the one that will deliver her the White House in November.
“It was West Virginia that made it possible for John Kennedy to become president,” Clinton told a crowd of supporters in Clear Fork, in the southern part of the state. “John Kennedy didn’t have the number of delegates he needed when he went to the convention in 1960; he had something equally as important – he had West Virginia behind him,” she said.
Surrogates for her campaign were delivering the same message; let the contest continue; don’t leave out Michigan and Florida; and look how “exciting” this contest has been for the Democratic Party.
Really?
Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.), a fellow New York lawmaker and staunch Clinton supporter, told CNN, “It’s abundantly clear Barack Obama is ahead,” but he maintained that she shouldn’t leave the race. “It may be more difficult …, but as long as it’s possible,” she should keep going.
But throughout the day, Obama continued picking up super-delegate support, adding an additional two to the six who signed on over the weekend. Now Clinton’s only remaining options are: to persuade the Democratic Party to change the rules; get pledged delegates to override elected delegates; and to get super-delegates to go back on their word.
All of those options seem like bad ideas. I could be wrong but, after all, anything is possible in politics. But is that what Clinton really wants to happen?
“She’s in the game,” Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) said. “We have a saying in Texas, ‘Hold your horses.’ Lee says the longer primary allows voters to cast their vote and be counted and shows “respect for the Democratic process.”
I agree and hope she’ll do just that, “respect the Democratic process” – even if it doesn’t deliver exactly what Hillary wants.

It seems all those who dont vote for Obama are labeled as racist. Just because the voters in W Va and Kentucky heavily favored Hillary doesnt mean they are racist… they just believe in her to be the right choice… unlike to the 93% of the black vote who went to Obama simply because his black.
Her message is to make people think that not voting for Obama is being racist so that you wouldn’t vote for him and insted her….(Reverse Psychology)
The people that don’t vote for Obama are not racist, they can vote for whomever they choose to. If they think Hillary is the best candidate then that is who they should vote for. My problem with Hillary is that she says Obama can’t win the “HARD-WORKING, UNEDUCATED WHITE VOTE” and without them he can’t win the whitehouse. Well tell me how she can win the whitehouse without getting the HARD-WORKING, EDUCATED AFICAN AMERICAN VOTE. It can’t be done, so what makes her the better and stronger candidate.
All I see is DESPIRATION,and that is dengerous, not only for herself but also for her family, one GOOD thing about all this is at-least we all now know the CLINTONS better than we thought we know. The AFRICANS do say that your true name is not only what you are called but also your caracter, that is to say if your name is Clinton and you lie, then your real name is lier.
IM SORRY PEOPLE I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY BLACK PEOPLE ARE STILL VOTING FOR HER AFTER ALL OF THE RACIAL COMMENTS THE CLINTONS HAVE MADE. SHE NEEDS TO JUST GIVE IT UP, ALL OF THE PEOPLE WHO ARE TELLING HER TO REMAIN IN THE RACE JUST WANT TO SEE A GOOD FIGHT AND SHES DUMB ENOUGH TO GIVE THEM ONE. IF MCCAIN WINS IN NOVEMBER THEY WILL SAY THE DEMOCRATS WON BECAUSE BARACK WAS SO BUSY FIGHTING WITH HER HE DIDNT HAVE TIME TO BEAT MCCAIN AND THERE WILL BE NO COMING BACK IN 2012, HER POLITCAL CAREER WILL BE OVER.
Black people think its ok to here racism from white people but its not okay. They think they don’t need the black vote to win the white house just white and hispanics. I think that is sad they trying to make him take her as his vice president. I think he have the right to choose any one he want to. And for Vicky is she white!
Vicky, Vicky, Vicky. Don’t be a hypocrite, please.
If you want to say that 93% of the Black vote went to Obama because he was Black, then let others say that West Virginia voted for Hillary cause she’s White. If you believe that WV voted for the most qualified candidate, why can’t Black people do the same?
