(June 16, 2008) The next first lady will be either Michelle Obama or Cindy McCain, and, you can bet that there are those on both sides of the political spectrum who are digging up whatever they can on these two women’s past, present and future. But the former Michelle Robinson, isn’t afraid to discuss her upbringing on the South Side of Chicago, her Ivy League education, or her courtship and marriage to Barack Obama.
Recent articles have chronicled her life from childhood to motherhood, revealing more about the 44-year-old wife of the freshman Illinois senator. Now political watchers are speculating on Michelle’s impact on her husband’s candidacy.

I am so proud of how far we have come.When i found out that Barack Obama was the democratic nominee I had to take a moment and cry.I think his wife Michelle will make a fine First Lady.It is time for America to have a postive change.She walks with grace and dignity she has a wonderul educational background.She shows good values as a mother and wife.So I think she would fit the role just fine.GO BAMA IN 08!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think she should just step to the side because all they going to do is say something to piss us off. Because they do everything single thing they can to tarnish his image but he still comes out on top. But Michelle should just chill until he becomes President.

This is not a new in trying to destroy Black families, White people have been doing this for centuries. If you take away the mother from the family the family falls apart, If you take away the father from the family the family will be weak also, It is called divide and concore.
This woman is one of the most intelligent and smartest women in America today. She did not get where she was before the campaign by just being a college graduate. She is an exceptionally intelligent woman with the grace and wisdom of a 1st lady of America. She will bring honor and grace to this country which has been lost for some time. She can do more than show off the White House. Obama is a smart man and he would not have chosen a wife who was anything but outstanding in deed and wisdom. She’s got my vote!

I just saw a Mr Bower or Bowers @ MSNBC talking about this Hillary coalition called “Just Say No Deal”,he says their focus is to make sure Obama loses and they would rather see a Republican in office than support their party nominee.Short sighted,spirited Hillary supporters or plain racists…you decide!!!

Lisa, you are right about what you said about politics and the game. But also you must not be naive to think that Barack will NOT have more unfair treatment because he is black. As black people we know that we have to work 10x harder than our white counterparts. It’s a fact.
I’m mean think about it. Barack has had straight lies told that ppl actually believe about him (ie. he’s a muslim, he’s a terrorist, he’s gonna raise ALL our taxes[nope, just the top rich ppl] among other things). What is being said about McCain that is so damaging or outright lies? “He’s too old” that’s the only negative I hear going around. I don’t really see equal bashing going on there.

It will be a sad day in America IF John McCain should become president. For one thing he will try to bring back the draft and this will cause Pure “hell” And he will just keep all of Bush idea’s alive. Mrs. Michelle Obamna is definitely an asset because is a classy, intelligent, articulate strong partner to Senator Obama. She can hold her own in any intelligent discussion and she is NOT a trophy wife like McCain’s wife. Mrs. Obama has a brain and isn’t afraid to sse it.
The alternative is a drug addicted barbie doll on the arm of a senior citizen.

I’m not a big Obama supporter, but Michelle is my girl. I may disagree with Obama politically but he has chosen a great and sexy partner with unique experiences…well unique to the majority.
She is an ASSET. She is more qualified than most previous First Ladies. She is undeniably bright, gracious, elegant, attractive and well spoken. She also appears to be an excellent mother–the girls are wonderful. I hope that she’ll run for the presidency after President Obama’s terms are up.

Unless she was their nanny, white America has always had a problem with strong black women. Michelle is beautiful, intelligent, graceful, and strong. She is always raising 2 little ones that will one day be strong black women as well. She is a wonderful example. At least Michelle didn’t steal her husband from his first wife like McCain’s current one did!
I would have to agree with a lot of you. Is an educated woman, who happens to be intelligent and articulate, be an asset or a liability? This is a dumb question! People, we must remember, the republicans and media are trying to use and find anything they can to discredit Obama. If they can’t find anything, then they believe it’s ok to create something. This is the only way they know how to try and make sure Mr. Obama does not win.

(the only decent bet programme broadcast here in the uk)and she more than gave a good account of herself. michelle obama is a positive role model and she will get shoot down by hostile media, make no mistake.. now, that the historic sentiment is over, the race to the whitehouse has begun. by the end of it a large section of the black american community will not like obama as he will not endorse their value systems.it has just begun with obamas speech about black fathers.. yes, michelle obama is more than good enough to stand by her man’s side and represent HERSELF as the best foot forward to enter those gates. it will happen just as i said it would …blacks just have to believe it will happen and not focus on stupidity as they are distracted by endless attacks on obama that they will all take so personally.

Lisa, I have to agree with you on this one. I think we as a black race go on and on about how we have been mistreated instead of just answering a simple question. But you also must understand, we are treated different because of the color of our skin and some of us cant get past that. As to the question asked, I think she would be a wonderful asset. I know most people think that all us white people is against haveing a black president.But i for one think that it’ll be for the better to have a black president.I’m pretty sure Obama will do alot of good in the White House. And as far as his wife i think she’s an asset.
I know many obama supporters hate to hear this but when bill clinton was running for president Hillary had to bake cookies so the public would perceive her as wifely. Unfortunately the election is about the perception that the people have of its candidate. I think Michelle Obama is an asset to her husband, her children and her country. However, during the elections she will have to step back a bit an not allow the republicans or fox or whoever it is that make this stuff up get in the way of the goal. Which is to win in NOV.

I have seen this woman in person and can testify that she is a plus for the campaign. Strong, intelligent and as real as it gets. When you see her, she brings elegance and class along for the ride. She uses no cards or monitors to speak. It comes from within and you feel the presence of truth. Which is truly refreshing in these times. When you see her and Barack standing on stage, they stand together as one. I am proud to have Michelle Obama stand up and stand out on pride and love.
I don’t see what Michelle has to do with Barack’s candiacy in the first place.. It’s only the GOP Republicans who are attacking her chacter..This woman is super eudcated and classy..I think white men don’t like the fact that Michelle is not a typical puppet, walk 10 step behind your man kind of wife..If you notice they’re not going after Ms. McCain with her drug history because she’s playing the traditional be seen, be quiet and be pretty role.
Bottom line is that they can’t find any legitiment dirt on Obama so they’re attacking the closest thing to him and that’s his wife..And when all else fails they start calling her Barack’s baby momma..
Some one posted earlier that “by the end of the elections a large section of the black American community will not like Senator Obama as he will not endorse their value systems”. I’d be very interested to know what this particular enlightened poster thinks the black American communities’ value system consists of.
Senator Obama’s speech about black fathers was absolutely correct and needed to be said out loud (again) by another influential black man. However, it was not a new concept…but a revised attack on an old problem in the black community. Further most blacks realize that this is a political event of the utmost significance. This is a historic event that is very racially charged and personal attacks are to be expected and will escalate from the half-truths to out right lies and even to fantasy.
Black America has had to have tough skin all of our existence just to survive in America. This time is different because when the dust settles…there could be real change in the way America is run. Senator Obama will work to improve America for ALL of us…however there are ignorant people that believe he is only here for black America. Not true. Also to a certain extent Mrs. Obama may have to step back (publicly) because in reality people take their perceptions into the voting booth with them not their common sense and the negative perception that America has of strong women (especially strong African American women) could hurt Senator Obama.
It would be very interesting to hear what Michelle Obama’s opinion is of black fathers, black mothers, and the black value system. Would she further enlighten us on the statement,”Any fool can have a baby?”
Mrs. Obama is an ASSET to her husband. Like most folks here have been saying, she is intelligent and classy and in love with her husband–that is evident. They look at each other with love in their eyes. She will be GREAT in the White House.
I think she could help him, but she needs to stop looking so mad all the time. What is she so pissed about? It sends the wrong message to the voters.

First Lady Obama is an asset, when she speaks, people listen, just like our President Obama, Michelle is very open, intelligent, down to earth, smart, beautiful, just the total package, I have yet to see McCain’s wife even give a speech, or an interview, she just does not look inviting or pleasant to be around at all, she doesnt look all around…just my opinion!!
I agree that Michelle is an asset to Obama but she also has to realize that she is in the public eye and if you don’t like something you have to learned to play the game and act as faked as you possible can when the cameras are rolling. It almost like you are taking a drama class. You don’t have to change your person on the inside for anyone but what you display on the outside is what you have to mindful of because this is what the American people will perceived you to be. Michelle is a very intelligent woman who hasn’t learn the politically aspects of her husband campaign. I am so glad that the campaign hired someone to work with her because I must admit that I am not astute to how mean and crude the political world is but as an African-American female I know that certain kind of emotions you can’t display when the cameras are rolling. I think Michelle is afraid of what she perceives to be ahead for Barack if he shall become the President of the United States. Fear is only natural but you have to believe that God will determine your faith no matter what lies ahead.

Michelle Obama is intelligent, passionate, beautiful, and genuine. She cannot be anything BUT an asset to his campaign, and probably Barack’s biggest confidante. Of course, Fox News, Republicans, and all around conservatives are going to try and spin her image, but she in an incredible woman.
I am proud of Obama but at the same time I fear for his life. I just feel funny about him becoming president.The same feelings that my parents had about JFK. I just pray that God watches over him and his family through all of this. Lova and peace.
Michelle is a great asset, she is a dedicated wife, mother, and citizen! The GOP is intimidated by her, John McCain said that he never loved America until he was captured in the war, but that got no play!
