Bill Sticks By his Word to Help Barack

July 1, 2008 – It looks like the chill between Sen. Barack Obama and former President Bill Clinton is beginning to thaw. According to Obama’s campaign, the two spoke on Thursday by telephone and the Clinton pledged his support to the Illinois senator.
Clinton had been noticeably quite and away from public events since Obama clinched the Democratic nomination. Political watchers and pundits have been speculating when and if the former president would wholeheartedly support Obama’s candidacy.
Earlier this week a British newspaper reported a source who said Clinton was still angry Obama had bested his wife for the nomination. The Telegraph newspaper quoted a Democratic source who said, “One person told me that Bill said Obama would have to ‘kiss my ass,’ if he wants his support.”
An initial news release from a spokesman for the former commander in chief did not offer a fiery endorsement of Obama, and some even inferred that the secondhand statement was a straight-up diss. Bill Clinton “would do whatever he can to ensure Obama wins the presidency,” The one-sentence statement read.
Thursday’s 20-minute phone conversation between the two titan politicians was the first time they have spoken since Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) announced she was suspending her campaign June 7. Bill Burton, spokesman for Obama, said, “He [Obama] has always believed that Bill Clinton is one of this nation’s great leaders and most brilliant minds, and looks forward to seeing him on the campaign trail and receiving his counsel in the months to come.”
During the primary Clinton often played the “bad cop” to wife Hillary’s “good cop” and was extremely critical of the first-term senator. But now that is all behind the two and Burton said Clinton has agreed to campaign with the presumed nominee and on his own.
Bill Clinton was in London to participate in the Nelson Mandela birthday bash last week and was unable to attend the Unity, N. H. rally with his wife and Obama. Matt McKenna, a spokesman for Bill Clinton, said, “President Clinton continues to be impressed by Senator Obama and the campaign he has run, and looks forward to campaigning for and with him in the months to come.
”The president believes that Sen. Obama has been a great inspiration for millions of people around the country and he knows that he will bring the change America needs as our next president.”
The best thing for them both is to work together because they ARE democrates. The media will do and say things to create a problem between the two. Senator Obama has class and has had through this whole process. He is keeping his eyes on the target and that’s why he is going to win.

It’s amazing how these stories change daily. Yesterday, the press was dogging Bill Clinton out. Today their singing his praises. Bill Clinton was trying to get his wife to drop out a long time ago so that they could support Obama and she was to stubborn to do so. That “kiss my ass” statement was another ploy by the media to see if Obama would respond negatively. The media prints BS because they know that’s what sells!!!

Hopefully, they will work together for something that’s bigger than a Clinton ego..this country’s future. Obama really is the one that could hold a grudge based on what they did to him, but he’s demonstrated the ability to reach beyond disagreements and pull the country together rather than tearing it apart. I love President Bill Clinton. I still remember how well my family did financially when he was in office and I think he is an asset to the Obama campaign. He is EF Hutton for me, When Bill speaks, I will listen. I respect his intelligence and leadership ability. Obama has the same characteristics as the Democratic Nominee and this is why he has my support.
Things are coming along quite nicely, not just for Sen. Obama but for the Democratic party and the entire country on a hold. We need to end this Iraq war and stabilize the country’s economy again, from rising gas prices to increase in criminal activities. I smell the change, it is simply a matter of time.

If you believe for a split second that Sen Obama believes that he needs them both to ensure a victory for the Dems in November, then you are absolutely right. But you must also be aware of the tensions that were created this primary process that would require Hillary, were the roles reversed, to need Barack. He has demonstrated judgement, foresight, and informed planning. A unified party is the only way to ENSURE VICTORY. Even the slightest hint of dissention amongst our ranks would give off the foul odor of Republican President McCain for the next 4 years. Please, intelligent Ladies and Gentlemen, let us not lose the focus on what’s at stake this November. The direction of the country. Our children. My young daughters don’t associate with Hillary Clinton because she is a woman. As a Black man (even only half) Sen Obama brings more than his ample capabilities as a Presidential candidate. I think just from the exterior, that it helps the democaratic party, however, it miscommunication would have gone on until the end of the month, then it would have looked pretty bad. Hopefully this will begin a positive campaign support for the whole democratic party.

I basically like Mr. Obama but I do not understand why he needs to help Hillary pay off her debt, I never heard of the winner paying off the loser’s debt. Obama better be careful…both Bill and Hillary Clinton have a history of making people disappear who get in their way. Neither are very good at losing, and both will go to any extreme to get their ways. Should something catastrophic happen to Obama, the Clintons should be investigated first.

Hashim, my post clearly states that I will vote this Fall as an Independent not as a Democrat, thus I am changing my registration to reflect same. As stated, I basically like Obama and WILL vote for him. I was a tri-state volunteer for him during the Primaries.

Clearly Hillary and Bill could have disavowed some of the racist related,blue collar worker sentiment, but instead they fanned it and kept it alive. Hillary’s claim of ducking non-existent bullets in Bosnia is a character problem. Could Obama have gotten away with that? Had he lost 11 Primaries in a row, as did Hillary, would he have been permitted to remain a viable candidate by the Democratic Party? The answer is a resounding NO. These, among others, are reasons that I wish to now become a registered Independent and not be bound by Party hypocrisy.
Also, I do believe that Obama is an exemplary blessed man of faith and is sincere about forgiveness. I am not there.

Well Katie, they are moving towards unity, and we are that much closer to clinching the white house in the fall….What we fail to realize and understand, is that this was a contest and or competition, they, both were trying to get the nomination, so of course, they were playing hard…It’s just like sports you have to be competitive….but at the end of the day, you catch your breath, and realize, that there has to be a winner, and you both are on the same side…they are democrats to the end, at the end of the day, The Clintons are political giants and machines, Obama cannot do this without their support, and that’s what is being exemplified!!! Several years ago I heard a lot about the importance of the African American vote and “they cannot win without our vote” therefore we were urged to register as many people as possible. That was the Jessie & Sharpton mantra. It now appears that there has been a paradigm shift and Obama cannot win without the “Clinton machine.” What caused the shift? Also, the 18 million votes Hillary claims and is touted as if they are her own personal property does not mean that they all voted FOR her, I am sure a portion of the votes were against Obama, but no one is sifting that piece out.
The 90% plus African American votes that went for Obama, somehow now seems unimportant and only the votes the Jr. Senator received matter.
People, be analytical sometimes and not blindly follow the dictates of others who think of us only in opportunistic ways. I value my right to think outside of the box and as such see things as they are not as I would wish them to be. OBAMA & MICHELLE are great people anyone would be proud of them and America deserves their leadership.
This is what we Democrats need to do. We need to be united because we are not like those moderate and conservative Republicans who debate and argue among each other over what the Republican Party should do for this great nation, and what direction the Republican Party should take.

Katie, with all due respect, I think you are missing the point, we have to look at the bigger picture, When I was comparing sports to politics, I was doing so with respect to the competing, and playing hard to win the prize, that’s all, I am a loyal registered democrat, I didnt let my feelings and emotions get caught up in the primaries, Of course I was behind Obama, but let it be known, that if Obama lost, and Hillary won, I was going to support her, that’s just the way the game is played, when we start to look at the tactics at how they played the game, I think we get mixed up in emotions, and its not fair to the party, I have never seen so many blacks in my life just speak so badly about the Clintons before in my life, when just 2 years ago, at Coretta Scott Kings’ funeral, Bill and Hillary got a 5min standing ovation from the mostly black audience, quite strange huh??? Maybe “your fellow black people” remember how loyal the Clintons were to, Dr. Joycelyn Elders, Lani Guinier and Marian Wright Edelman all brilliant Black women who were”friends” of the Clintons before they moved to DC.
The Primary is the audition and if you do poorly (for whatever reason) you get elimated and cannot be a part of the real competition. Had Obama lost the audition I would have written his name in. I pray that he wins by a landslide.
I felt sorry for Bill. I REALLY LIKE THE CLINTONS AND THEY ESPECIALLY BILL WAS FRAMED OF PLAYING THE RACE CARD. the fairy tale comment was about the iraq war, the MLK comment was an historical fact, and the Jesse jackson comment was nothing racial, it was made into a racial story. Black people the fact of the matter is both parties are killing this country the media has given us two candidates that will not do what is required to turn this country around. Many blacks think they have a savior in Obama, but he does not talk to black men he talks at us, like the media does painting all black men as dead beat dads, uneducated, going or on the way to prison. In the media and entertainment the black man is being reduced down to the lowest common denominator we are not looked at unless we are killing or dealing or getting beat up by some white guy, because thats now they want it. We black men need to stop disrespecting our sisters they are our queens and we should hold them close. MCain is unfit to lead us also both want to give licenses to illegals and that is big to me and should be for black people. Black people should not vote for someone because they are black or their political party, now thats stupid. Black peoples last leader was MLK and I call him a leader because how he talked and related to black men to make us come together for our good, Obama does not have that because he is what the Rev Wright said just a politician and the black vote is one of his tools to use.

Well obviously, that support wasnt enough for him to grab the nomination, I dont think this country would take those kind of politicians very seriously, because this society is not the same society it was 40 and 50 years ago, so touting the rhetoric of the civil rights movement is kinda stale dont ya think???, when blacks can not vote a president in by themselves, so you have to be neutral, you have to speak for everyone that is discriminated against and not treated equally with respect, not just a certain race….. And any candidates who are pro white, I dont know….but I will tell you this, any white candidate who is over an organization (e.g.) National Advancement for White Folks, just using for an example, I most definitely would not vote for them, for President, that’s not the kind of Person I would want to run this country, and vice versa if it was anyone black!!!
