Rev. Jesse Jackson in the Hot Seat
By Pamela Gentry, Senior Political Producer July 10, 2008 – The Rev. Jesse Jackson is no stranger to controversy, media spotlight or the ground rules when speaking with the press. But if he had forgotten, his latest slip of the tongue will serve as a pungent reminder to remember past lessons.
On Sunday, while in the FOX News studio waiting to be interviewed, Jackson leaned over to another guest, Reed V. Tuckson, the former chief medical officer for the District of Columbia and President of the Charles Drew University in Los Angeles, and whispered, “Barack has been talking down to Black people. …I want to cut his nuts off.” In a rapid response, the founder of the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition issued a statement denouncing the “crude” nature of his comments and apologized to the presumptive Democratic nominee.
“I apologize,” Rev. Jackson said Wednesday. “My support for Senator Obama’s campaign is wide, deep and unequivocal. I cherish this redemptive and historical moment. My appeal was for the moral content of his message, to not only deal with the personal and moral responsibility of Black males, but to deal with the collective moral responsibility of government and the public policy which would be a corrective action for the lack of good choices that often led to their irresponsibility.”
Still, his actions brought swift rejection from the civil rights leader’s son, Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. (D-Ill.), the national co-chairman of Obama’s presidential campaign. In rallying behind his candidate, he proved that political alliances can be stronger than family ties. “I’m deeply outraged and disappointed in Reverend Jackson’s reckless statements about Senator Barack Obama. His divisive and demeaning comments about the presumptive Democratic nominee – and I believe the next president of the United States – contradict his inspiring and courageous career,” Jackson Jr. wrote in a statement.
Jackson said his comments were in reference to visits Obama has made to Black churches during his campaign, at which the 46-year-old senator has said Black folks are responsible for their families and their communities. While Jackson has also been outspoken about Black America’s responsibility to play an active role in improving its plight, he has been careful to highlight the government’s responsibility to provide equal opportunity and racial justice.
But, Jackson knows that everything one says while wearing a microphone in a television studio is on the record. He also knows that a careless remark – even one he thought was off the record – can be costly. After all, it was his clumsy reference to Jews as “Hymies” and New York as “Hymietown” during his 1984 presidential bid that nearly destroyed his lifelong work within the Jewish community. And his gaffe late last year about Obama “acting White” perhaps revealed Jackson’s latent belief that the Illinois senator’s political perspective was out of line with that of the traditional civil rights establishment.
Granted, this was a careless move on Jackson’s part, but I also know it was not intended to do harm to the Obama’s shot at being commander and chief. After hearing his comments had been recorded, Jackson appeared on CNN to publicly apologize, issued a statement to the press and called the senator’s office with his apology.
His immediate actions may slow his roll on political chatter, but what it won’t stop speculation about some underlying dissention among old-school Black leadership regarding Obama’s candidacy. The topic wasn’t on the radar before this and support for Obama appeared unwavering.
Bill Burton, spokesman for the Obama campaign, suggested that the brouhaha was being blown out of proportion. “Of course” the senator accepts the reverends apology, he said. Jackson’s son’s wasn’t so forgiving. “Reverend Jackson is my dad and I’ll always love him,” he said But, “he should know how hard that I’ve worked for the last year and a half as a national co-chair of Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. So, I thoroughly reject and repudiate his ugly rhetoric. He should keep hope alive and any personal attacks and insults to himself.”
Whew, I bet the next family dinner will be a bit tense at the Jackson’s house.

I do not understand why Jesse is so embittered by Barack’s message of self responsibility. Must we blame “everything” on white people regardless of accountability? I understand Jesse’s agenda, but there has to be balance. Unfortunatley, Jesse to a degree falls into the category of absentee father concerning his illegitimate daughter. Maybe that is why he is so angry. Perhaps it is simply conviction.
Well here we go. I knew it was gonna happen, I was just waiting 2 c when. Mr. Jackson STOP HATEN!This the problem when a black person is going good it is always somebody black trying to get mad because it is not them. Its bad enough there other races mad or upset because Barak is about to be our next president, and now u have black people always dogging out each other. Jesse Jackson u already had ur time to shine, Its over this is a new era not the 60s 70s 80s or 90s. Get over it already. UR TIME 2 SHINE is Over. I would not put Jesse Jackson on my team.
OBAMA 08!
I’m sorry, but to me Jesse Jackson is a moron. He thinks he’s so important and he really just makes blacks look like buffoons…
How dumb do you have to be to say something like that when you have a microphone on for a tv interview? Jackson means well but he always ends up putting his foot in his mouth. Is he missing something upstairs? Why can’t the man be happy about Obama - jealousy?
It is very interesting to me how a conversation between two people can be recorded for the news media. Was one of them wearing a wire?? It almost seem as if it was planned. Jesse Jackson want some media attention it seems. Is his wife still letting him stay in the same house with her after his cheating behind embarassed her in front of the whole world with his young girlfriend and their baby? He need to shut-up forever.
This moves Mr. Obama closer to the political center (where he needs to be to win the White House), Jesse Jr. to the political center, and keeps the Rev. to the left. If the Rev.’s comments were about the current President or past President (Mr. Clinton), it would not have been a headliner.
Who is Jesse Jackson really? Yes, he TRIED to run for president before but he wasn’t even supported by the democratic party. Regardless of why he said it, it was inappropriate for any grown man to say he wants to cut another grown man’s nuts off! I can understand that Rev. Jesse Jackson wants justice for Black people, which is why HE is in the Rainbow Coalition. Hoewever, Sen. Barack Obama is running for President of the UNTIED STATES, not the NAACP and must look out for the well-being of all races.
Jesse Jackson is an idiot! He needs to keep his mouth shut at all times…he is no longer (if he ever was anyway)credible and this just points further to his lack of credibility. Black folks do need to be responsible for themselves and our communities and depending on government or a political leader or a hasbeen preacher named Jesse Jackson is not progressive. Go sit down!
History is in making and it just seems to me it’s this and it’s that about Barack Obama and about his wife as well. It seems that the media just turns around whatever the Obama’s may say to make them look bad. My question is whatever happened to “freedom of speech”. and in closing this is all uncalled for and it’s definitely time for change. All the best to the Obama’s
I just wonder what Jesse thought of Bill Cosby’s remarks on the same subject. Did he want to cut his off too?
His behavior does not surprise me at all. I also have doubts about Rev Jackson’s involvement with the Rev Dr. Martin Luther King. There is something truly disturbing about the scene on the balcony. He has always managed to be at the right place at the right time. Kinda makes one wonder… He is divisive and has always been. He reminds me of Judah. He intended to make the remark, and if not wired was well aware of the consequences. Jesse has lost credibility within the black community, America and abroad. This was merely a publicity stunt to place himself back into the lime light. I don’t know if anybody else has noticed, but whenever he is in the light, it shines negatively. The truth about him will be revealed and the nation will be shocked. Ah, the true character of man…………
By the way…maybe that’s what his wife should have done… “cut his nuts off” so we wouldn’t have proof that he cheated and had another child!! He is so ignorant and embarrassing…I don’t want him representing anyone, especially not black folks.
Funny how everyone is so “shocked” at Jesse’s comments. Obviously, he is not listening to Obama when he speaks because if he was, and if he was a believer- he would have been careful of his speech. This is a great example of what Obama is trying to change-attitude in black culture. When a black person in authority offers you advice to better yourself- it is not talking down to you- it is to help you. Jesse is only sorry that he was caught being HIMSELF. Will the Real Jesse Jackson please Stand Up???
This is another example of the Willie Lynch Letter. The instituted classism and division among our own is not perpetuated by whites, but by our own. Now the “field negro” (Jackson) is wanting to harm the “house negro” (Obama); when does the mess stop? Arent we passed our 300 hundred years yet? It is definitely healthy that we constructively disagree, but comments like that has earned Jackson his honorary white hood, cross, gallon of fuel, and a match.
As a man of faith, we all expect a higher standard from him. He already knows out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks! What’s really happening here and why?
Jesse Jackson is not “Keeping Hope Alive”
by making remarks against his brother.
I believe it was a remark not meant to hurt Obama, it was a jealous statement from a man who is envious of Obama. We all ocassionally voice our anger, envy, jealousy remarks to an associate or friend. We don’t have a mike on us.
Jesse we know its hard bro, not being the chosen one to head up America, it was not your calling.
Yours was to keep hope alive, Obama is to take us to a much needed change.
I would like to know who made Jesse Jackson Black people spokesperson. He can not speak for me. I wish Jesse would just leave it along, people are tired of controversey and he will see that his comment will do nothing but make Obama stronger. I agree with many of you, move on Jesse your time is over.
I sincerely believe Mr. Jackson, Sr. intentionally made those comments to Mr. Tuckson while on Fox News. Recall Fox News continously looks for ways to embarrass Barack Obama, his family and his campaign. What other way to take a another swipe at Mr. Obama, than by using Mr. Jackson,Sr.as their pawn.
Mr. Jackson,Sr. may well be acting as FOX NEWS cronie; and it is very unfortunate that he’s elected to do so. His credibility amongst the black community has been diminishing over the years. Is he now trying to put the last nail in the coffin on his career by making these wayward comments? Kudos to Mr. Jackson, Jr. for his statements against his dad’s crude remarks.
The Elder Jackson is just a wannabee relevant Civil Rights Pawn. If he or AL Sharpton were of any threat to the Establishment they wud ‘ve been knocked off a Longtime ago! His Moral Character is so flustered and injected with deceit ,dishonor ,disgust and disdain. I can’t believe he has the audacity to critique Mr Obama at all. To put it hip-hop Jesse is Wretched den a Mofo !
I hope everyone knows this was an intentional set up. I’ve been behind the scenes and they turn off the microphones once the interview has taken a break. You always will see the interviewer make small comments but the microphone is turned off. See how they still play us against one another.(the other news man siting beside Jackson had a smirk on his face) This is not good. But you are right Rev. Jackson should not have made those kinds of comments he should have kept it to himself. We all have made some kind of comment about any given concern that’s just human nature. It’s not to say this man is jealous he just got caught in the fram game! May God continue to bless them both!
FIRST OF ALL DOESN’T JESSE’S SON WORK FOR THE OBAMA CAMP? I THINK JESSE IS A LITTLE BIT JEALOUS OF OBAMA BECAUSE HE IS SUCEEDING WHERE JESSE FAIL!! AND AS EXPECTED ONE OF OUR OWN BEING NEGATIVE ABOUT US IS JUST WHAT SOME FOLKS WAS WAITING FOR…WASN’T REV.WRIGHT ENOUGH?BESIDES OBAMA HAS FORGIVEN JUST AND I SUPPOSE WE SHOULD TOO!
Well…Rev. “Breadbasket” has put his foot in his mouth, yet again. I am not suprised and I am not amused. He’s jealous of Sen. Obama. Regardless, Rev. didn’t have to say it and all of his half-assed apologizing is about to make me stomach-sick. He ought to feel like a turd because his own son had to check him…publically.
I totally agree with the other responders, Rev. is a very jealous, sore loser. His comments could very well serve to overshadow the good that he has done for us in the past and I have lost a lot of respect for him since this story broke!
So…Rev…do your people a favor (and we could use a big favor right now): go somewhere, sit down, and shut your mouth…PLEASE!
Please.
I am always looking for the Rev.Jackson to put his foot in his mouth and as usual he never disappoints. He needs to get over himself and go sit down some where preferably quietly.
I have never felt ”talked down to” by OBAMA !!
So who is he to say how BLACK people feel !!
STOP HATING JESSE !! AND GET ON BOARD !
Dumb move Jesse!
Jackson just wishes it was his A#% in Baracks seat, that’s all, Jackson thinks he is a powerful, intelligent, outspoken Black Men, but he just ends up being out spoken & anoying…..
Jesse talks in circles anyway. No one whats to hear his crazy behind. Jealousy maybe. Stupidity for sure. He says nothing and always will be saying nothing. He is annoying. A few of this friends in the same era no names mentioned are just as bad. But always trying to fight for someone to get out of jail or whatever may be going on. Not everyone is innocent because they are black. All kinds of people commit crimes etc… enough said. They always want to jump out in front of the cameras and talk in circles making blacks sound even more crazy. SIT Down Yall!
This guy is a (Joke)…what exactly is he representing with his rhyme and reason comments. I have always felt he was a person trying to walk over other to become successful. That was the worse comment that he could have made. What an IDIOT!!
I am truly disturbed by the comment Jesse Jackson said about Obama (cut off his nuts) ….that’s just like him saying he would shoot him in the back!!!
Although it was suppose to be a private conversation, the mike was on…STUPID move… …….Jesse said what he met!!!!!
Here we are in the middle of a history (First African American Presidential Candidate) and of all the people in the world the Rev…..as we call him, is trying to harm this great man. Obama is only telling the truth, and the truth hurts some people and obviously it hurt Jesse. I guess after Jesse Jackson hears his son comment he will want to cut off his nuts!!!
I believe that if any harm comes to Senator Obama, it will be from his on people (African American)…and what are we going to tell our children of tomorrow.
Rev. Jesse Jackson need to on your needs and pray!!!
“Will we ever accept CHANGE”
Change People!
Once again, “open mouth-insert foot” by another black person, and a minister at that! Jesse Jackson has been in the spot-light long enough to know how careful he needs to be in front of a camera and in the presence of a microphone. I can’t believe he let himself fall into such a stupid position. Our so-called Black leaders need to lead and motivate and stop letting themselves fall prey to the media when they know once the media gets wind of a blunder they will keep the issue in the fore-front for days and days. I am glad Obama can forgive Jesse Jackson, but I don’t have to, since he should know better!
Even though what the Reverend said was totally out of place, unsupported and wrong, this is a prime example of how the media especially then news media have again found a way to divide us as a people. It’s bad enough that we are made spectacle
on music videos and movies, but the news get to get in on it even more now because we are about to have a Black man for president. My hope is that once he is in, we can work a little bit better as a people to not let this happen.
First, Fox set this up when they saw him whispering (supposedly during a break) and INTENTIONALLY left his mic hot!! Second, Jesse needs to understand that his moment in time has passed and he either needs to get onboard or get on another train. This is exactly what happens to us as a race all the time. We always tear each other down. Why do you think the klan is so inactive now? Because we are killing ourselves!!! Oh yeah, WHY DIDN’T ANYBODY TALK ABOUT THE BS WITH OBAMA’S PLANE EARLIER THIS WEEK!!! Remember Ron Brown!!!
crazy! I do not know what he was thinking. I am saddened by this. If divide and conquer was ever in effect, it iw working now. Jackson had his time and it is over. We need to stick together for Barack Obama, period.
It is so unfortunate that Mr. Jackson has said what he said. with that being said it seems that the real focus has been taken off the real issues. Rising gas prices, the economy , social reform these are where the focus of the whole country. Please do not get me wrong gossip is I reckon good for the nosey but it is time to get it together. We need to keep our eyes on the prizes and get Mr. Obama in office to at least change this country around from adminstration that has driven into a reccession. OBAMA ‘08
Don’t hate Rev. Jackson, It’s time to appreciate.
OBAMA
once ajain a black man is making trouble for our next president, jesse sr. should just go away along with rev scott, flaiger and anyone else who just doesn’t know how to keep their mouth closed if they have nothing positive to say. my hat comes off to jesse jr. for reprimanding his father.
I think some Black Leaders (or wannabe leaders) do envy Obama and hate the fact that Obama is speaking the truth about Black American Issues on live television (Airing Out Dirty Laundry). TRUTH HURTS but some people need to wake up and take responsibility for their actions and stop blaming everything and everybody else for their problems. I agree with Obama and Cosby 100%!!!!
Dang, Rev. Jackson, how does that FOOT taste!
Rev. Jackson has again demonstrated that he is out of touch. He should know better. Don’t get me wrong, his civil rights message is timeless. It is very apparent that Rev. Jackson is feeling “LEFT OUT.” This man needs to understand that if Obama has any chance of being elected the next president, he must appeal to “all” people, not just Blacks in America. Unfortunately, Rev. Jackson’s behavior concerning his personal life and his careless rhetoric as of late have irreparably damaged his otherwise stellar legacy.
someone who has an extra-marital affair…and a child outside his marrage…really shouldn’t be telling other black “men” how to act black!! and what tha hell is acting black?!?!?!?!
it’s like….jesse jackson says…black people only wanna be treated the same. but then he makes a comment like….someone isn’t acting “black” enough. RACISM AT IT’S BEST!!!!
whats the funniest….is that black people think this man is here to make the world better for them….lol…SUCKERS!!!!!!!
Rev. Jackson is quite savvy and experienced with the media. I could be wrong, but nothing said while mic’d is for naught and he knows this.
This was picked up, because he wanted it picked up !
Peace and Wisdom
I feel so hurt about Rev: Jackson’s comment, how could he! Rev: Jackson is a (cad) he is a craw-dead. To show his true colors like that makes me feel like; he needs to run for a position in the KKK. It’s a true statement that morally speaking Men should take care of their responsibilities. To have Hope that our race is going to get it (snap) can only be encouraging! I am so tired of Blacks being Jealous of one another. It is God who raises up and sits down.
someone who has an extra-marital affair…and a child outside his marrage…really shouldn’t be telling other black “men” how to act black!! and what tha hell is acting black?!?!?!?!
it’s like….jesse jackson says…black people only wanna be treated the same. but then he makes a comment like….someone isn’t acting “black” enough. RACISM AT IT’S BEST!!!!

Well Well Well, once again Jesse shows his true colors. He has absolutely no crediability in any community especially the community of PROUD BLACK FOLKS in this country!!! He can continue to talk his way into the gutter in which his mind and heart lie. What bothers me is the “he was set up” statement. That is ridiculous he was not beaten down and told to say that nonsense. Because he thought the mic was off proves everything else he said when it was on was a bunch of FRACKLE NACKLE BULL DROPPING!!! He is clearly envious of Mr. Obama, as a “Minister” he has clearly violated several Commandments and guilty of several deadly sins!!! It should be an interesting conversation at the Pearly Gates!!! Keep Praying Rev. Leon Lonny Love!!!!
I just fear that what is happening is just another example of a “not ready for primetime player”. I know you will jump all over me, but I have reservations about Obama’s inexperience to deal with what will happen in the race once he is declared the nominee. I think he still has credibility issues about being a light weight. He may be forced to choose Hillary as his VP. He is already alienating the far left with his votes on wiretapping and his support of the gun ruling. I am not against Obama but I am not sure of him either. Before you climb all over me, please understand I am not a traitor to my race, I am a student of politics who hopes a democrat will be elected, but I am also objective enough to see the problems.
Rev. Jackson served no purpose is his statement and I’m extremely disappointed. Rev. Jackson the tongue is a little member of the body and has the power of life and death, harmony or discord. What do you think your words did? He can’t explain his way through this. Eccl. 3:7 states,To every thing there is a season ad a time to every purpose under the heaven…….a time to keep silent and a time to speak.” Rev. Jackson, it’s time for you to keep silent, because you can’t explain your way through this. So please be silent. I’m praying for you.
Plain and simple:Jessee Jackson is the past, Barack Obama is the future. Jessee should be carefull of all of his comments be it public or private because they always seem to gain media attention.
The historical relevance of this comment is what makes it so sad and disgusting. The fact that Jesse would use the phrase “cut his nuts off” when that is exactly what white men would do to black men in order to emasculate and kill them is sickening. I’m sure there are some white people just loving this because they feel the same way. I used to take up for Jesse because he was on the front lines of the civil rights movement and regardless of the things that he has done, he should still be respected for that but I’m done with that. Shame on Jesse for even muttering this phrase EVEN IF the microphone was off.
I was told some years ago during Bushs’ first term to watch the Fox network. Lately I have been successful at seeing what they are about. Ridiculous is RIGHT! I saw the smirk, it was a set up, because on NBC4, they stated that Jesse had been asked his thoughts on Obama’s absentee fathers statement. Fahay, Jesse is old now and I truly think not as smart. He was set up and fell into the trap just like he fell on that extramaritial affair. Donna, I go back to Brooklyn, New York, with Operation Breadbasket and PUSH. As a child I never trusted him. He didn’t seem genuine and didn’t come across as nice. Like my former Pastor, William Augustus Jones. Over the years, I feel my childhood instinct of him was accurate, although I registered to vote at 18 when Jesse ran. (just because). Now, I wouldn’t give him more than a smile.
RIDICULOUS, you have hit the nail on the head!! FOX NEWS is very well known for their extreme conservative right-wing views, and the unprofessional, bullying tactics their administration employs to maintain complete control and create a work culture of fear. There is very little truth or actual “journalism” conducted via that network, it is mostly personal commentary which is not supported by any factual evidence.
I would not at all be surprised if this was a planned scheme against both Rev. Jackson and Sen. Obama. Notice all of the dots ” … ” that were printed before his alledged statement that he wanted to cut off his nards! I mean REALLY!!
I would like to suggest that people REALLY take the time to research both presidential candidates instead of simply supporting someone based on their skin color. Keep in mind that there are conservative liberals out there (those whose beliefs and values are really aligned with right-winged conservatives but “claim” to be liberal on a few issues - closet conservatives) who are more of a threat to social equality and justice moreso than the out-right “right-winged” conservatives.
LOOKS CAN BE VERY DECEIVING!! DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!
Reverend Jackson and other blacks need to realize that Barack is a politician and not a civil rights leader. It is not his job to solve just African American problems, but America’s problems as a whole.
A person in Rev. Jackson’s position should know that basically everythig is “on the record”, microphone or not. The guidelines are simple, if you don’t want reporters and the public to know something, don’t say it!!! There are ears everywhere, waiting for mistakes, and we can’t afford them.
I agree with you Arthur and most of the rest of you!
Also, I mean come one now, we DO need to take responsibility for our families first. The ministry begins at home first!
I think he’s just frontin’ like is in support of Barack. But Jesse, Sr. has always been a questionable representative for “us”. Yeah he’s done some good things but sometimes he sounds just plain IGNORANT. And this is one of those times.
Things like this show the lack of unity in the black community. We don’t need this right now of all times! And big ups to his son Jesse, Jr. this was brave, professional and you should be commended.
LOVE TO ALL MY PEOPLE -
Get somewhere and sit down Jesse!!!!!!!!. Stop hating.
Why did Jesse Jackson have to say something that a thug might say? I would not want him to lead anyone.
Fox News has always shown a bias toward Obama, I don’t think anything negative or otherwise just “slips” out or is overheard by a live mike. Fox has a hard time accepting Obama, they comment on Michelle and even referred to her as “Obama’s baby mama”. Its sad that Jackson made the mistake of slipping up as it were, but knowing Fox’s reputation involving Obama he should have guarded his tongue much better. “Cut his nuts off” — really?
I’m so disappointed at what we’ve become: “crabs in a bucket”
Let me 1st start by saying how proud and happy i am to see and read alot of peoples post on here. It shows interest, involvement, awareness and to a great degree, UNITY, which is something our community has been missing for sometime. That’s wassup! Now…onto Jesse, Rev. Jesse, “i am somebody” Jesse, “up with hope down with dope” Jesse. I am aphalled by his statements. He should’ve known the mic and camera are always rolling in the news media studios. You have now truely shown your true colors to us all. Simply a sad embarassment to those whom have supported you…namely OPERATION PUSH and Rainbow coalition. I’m glad his son stood up for what is right. This is why Obama is the better man and he continues to show it. Obama for president!
Barack Obama has soared to theheights that Jackson aspired to and he is envious and jealous. When he ran for president alot of Black people didn’t even vote for him and now his nose is all out of joint. Furthermore Jackson is not really one to be talking about morality and family responsibility, now is he?
I have a question. Why in the world is Jesse during an interview with “FOX CABLE NEWS”? That
station has literally some of the most racist commentators in the history of television in my opinion. They are out to get Obama at all cost, and Jesse is a smart man he knows this also, yet he agreed to the interview with them. And it’s not
exclusively Fox news trying to derail Obama’s path
to the white house but they are the most virulent.
My point is it doesn’t matter if you are with
Satan, Lucifer, or the Devil, all have the same agenda “TO MARCH YOU OFF STRAIGHT TO HELL”
So watch what we are saying both in written and electronic media
Must we buy into the typical irresponsible self-centered distructive mentality of the past. Jesse Jackson’s actions are very disappointng and selfish to say the least. Here we are again, WHERE ARE THE BLACK MEN, (ESPECIALLY LEADERS ), IN THIS COUNTRY WHO UNDERSTAND THEIR ROLE AS A PROTECTOR, PROVIDER? Jesse Jackson, should be the last person in this country to have said ANYTHING negative against BARACK OBAMA. It’s apparent he doesn’t know his role as a LEADER/SUPPORTER/PROTECTOR in this country. I pray that Jesse searches his heart and GET IT TOGETHER! because we are going to DO DA DANG THING with or without you…OBAMA ‘08.
I totally understand Jesse, Jr. reaction to his father’s betrayal. I just hope that he will be able to get pass the embarrassment and truely embrace and respect his father again.
I don’t think that the remark will hurt any one of them , it shows that everybody has their thoughts about diffrent issues. It also shows that neither man is a yes man or kiss ass, this was an atempt by the media to cause division between the two men, and damage Mr Obamas campain.
The Reverend Jesse Jackson knows that anything he says to anybody is going to be publicized, actions of the past prove this! Obama still remains to inexperienced for this position. I’m sorry but anybody who has not governed should not be President. I say change the rule adding the individual President and Vice-President must have held at least one term as such to run for these former mentioned positions. I’m not a traito to my race, I’m a promoter of good government…Unfortunately, I’ve never seen any African-American in a national positions of Governorship run a State or Department well, if you can point me in the right direction please do so?
I do know history and history often repeats itself. Jesse, please you have children out of wed-lock you are no longer in a moral position to tell anyone about anything…let your son be your defacto replacement and retire. I’m sorry but I’m a gay male and would love to marry but I can’t and you cheat on the one you marry, sad…sad…sad…
This is that crabs in the bucket mentality, black folks have and don’t like to see other black folks succeed. I mean, the minute Obama started having some leverage in the primaries, black folks were the first ones to speak out on their non-obligation to support Obama because he’s black, like that’s something you want to talk about in front of our white privileged people to use against him in the future…I mean, it’s ridiculous! Black folks can’t just lift people up and be excited for one man’s blessings and know and have faith their time will come, instead they are constantly trying to pull the brother down, just like crabs in a bucket…they all are trying to get out, and instead of using their claws to help the one crab out to later get them out, they are constantly fighting to be first and pulling the other crabs down in the process.
Okay… This is probably something that wasn’t that news worthy. Jesse Jackson only made the mistake of speaking candidly in a news studio…not to mention FOX. His comments, to me, didn’t say “I don’t support Obama”. They were clearly only indicative of a sentiment that Obama was talking down to blacks. This isn’t something that needs an apology to the masses. This was just a Jesse Jackson speaking candidly -inappropriately, maybe - but no REAL harm was done here. (and for his own SON to go on him like that…WOW! There must be some family issues I don’t know about).
WHY JESSE, WHY? I watched the cable news after this comment and to no shock the far right actually beleive that Jesse has a group that feels the same as he unfortunately what that person didn’t state that the group wasn’t other Blacks but the far righ, I can’t beleive he would say such a thing and who knows what cave he is stuck in but last I heard speaking to the Black communtiy about taking care of business and loving their children didn’t sound like speaking down it sounds like he was speaking the truth we need more calling for this same responsibility. Jesse does not speak for nobody but his ignorance.
Well, Rev. Jackson, tell us how you really feel…
If Jackson don’t sit his butt down somewhere!! I am proud of his son for keeping it real. Like clams in a bucket - jackson wants to pull Obama back down and keep him there - partly cause he was never able to climb out! This is so typical of our folks - jealousy-jealousy and more jealousy. OBAMA 08!
ITS VERY UNFORNTUNATE, I AM SO DISSAPPOINTED….JESSE IS ONE THAT IS AT THE TOP AND HE ACTS LIKE THIS? ITS A SAD DAY FOR US. I HAVE SOME ADVICE FOR JESSE THOUGH….LIKE MY MOM USED TO TELL US WHEN WE WERE KIDS. SIT YOUR A## DOWN AND SHUT UP.
I “Hope” Obama fall on his face (…politically). How can a president of America be anti-America? Did you hear what he said about Americans not being able to speak other languages – he says it’s embarrassing and laughed at the Americans. He always have something negative to say about America. Is this what we have to look forward in a president? He’s not a leader. I guess Reverend Wright rubbed off on him.
this is no big thing to me. so what jackson said
somethin g mean.helf the people who are talking just think of something they’ve said about.
if asked obama should make jackson vis pres but we all know that’s not going to happen you know why because he’s to black. never mind that he’s good gui or that he has postive point of views
as he does. it’s his skin color (lol).could obama
be for black as we say he is. (ou cracker jack lovein monkey stop hatein jackson).
For a man seemingly well versed in all media and political posturing, it seems Rev. Jackson would have enough forethought to restrain himself while he is being interviewed on television (whether on the air or not)., most especially at FOX News. Of course, the media pounces on his stupid remark and deems this to be some kind of discord in the black community, which I don’t think is true. I think most AA’s are behind Obama and maybe that is what bothers Rev. Jackson the most.
As for the context of Rev. Jackson’s quote, Obama is not talking down to black people - give us credit for being intelligent, please. Obama is speaking our truth and his truth - we do need to be responsible for ourselves and stop expecting something to just happen. I represent a generation that has benefitted from the Civil Rights movement but it is my personal responsibity to make sure the opportunities and information available to me are not squandered. While there have been triumphs, there still remains many problems in the black community - broken homes, lack of quality education, crime, imprisonment, and just plain old self-hate. There is only so much the government and social programs can do. There needs to be more discussion about personal responsibility, particularly involving our young people. Some may perceive this as “airing our dirty laundry” but how are going to fix any problems without doing some self evaluation?
Rev. Jackson, you should know better. You are like moses, you can see the promised land but you can not take us to it. that was Joshua and in your case, Obama. Why the sudden comments? I don’t recall you saying anything when Bill Cosby made the same comments. Shame on you. And you wonder why we look at you like we do.
Jesse Jackson, Andrew Young and other leaders from the Civil Rights era all are feeling a little “strange” right now. The times they are a changing. It seems to me that some are jealous that they won’t be the one to get to the top first. A lot legacies have been CHANGED with this Obama character. Remember when Bill Clinton was our first black president. Jesse Jackson can no longer hold his title as the most successful black candidate. Andrew Young saying that Clinton is more black than Obama…When he does become President I’d put those relics far out of my mind and wouldn’t let them near the White House or my administration. I have people in my family that feel the same way Jesse Jackson does. There is a sector of black people who are not that excited about Obama because he represents the contrast in which they live and think. These are people who want to blame the white man for everything. They see this black man raised by white mother and grandparents talking the truth to the black race. Obama will be attacked from both sides…racist whites and racist blacks. He is black and white and therefore he’s gonna get it from both. Black men do need to step it up…at our family 4th of July cookout, my younger brother said the same thing. We need to step it up…real leaders tell us what ne NEED to hear…not what we want to hear! I’m glad he revealed his true self so we can actually move forward into America’s true vision!
You know what? Rev Jackson really needs to go and really sit down somewhere. Number one he had on a bloody microphone!!! Be real!!!! Rev Jackson just needs to support the candidate- it’s about time SOMEONE is holding US accountable for OUR OWN ACTIONS. Before, yes, it was other races keeping us back, and down. BUT the time has come where we SHOULD be held accountable of the choices we make and how everyone else sees black america. We all don’t wear dreds and saggy pants. We all don’t live in the ghetto,or drop out of high school OR have babies ( SEVERAL) before age 20,(and not married). Sen Obama is right to chastise us!!!! We have to look inside and change how we “deal” in order for everyone to take us seriously
You know what I hate to see all of us black people falling for the Bate. Jessie Jackson is a very influencial leader and I hate to see people turn on him for his comments. Fox networks are a biased network and I hate to see that they take something that was recorded off record and use it as national news that was low down dirty journalism and was used to divide and conquer, and for his son to not instead speak against Fox News and say that he disagrees with fox for setting his dad up he goes along with it and turns on his father? What kind of bull crap is that? I could see if his father just stood up and made those remarks but obviously he was speaking to the guy off record. I mean have loyalty for Obama but don’t be an idiot and talk against your father. A simple “No Comment” would have sufficed. Jessie Jackson Jr. seems to be a super traitor. I mean this is your father. Never speak against your father to the public media.
Jesse have really shown his ignorance of a grown man. You would think children would only act out in such a manner. However Jesse proved all of us wrong! Questions remain, why state a comment of that kind at that particular moment? What point was he exactly trying to prove. In addition to those questions of thought, Everything Jesse said really doesn’t matter, reason being refering to what Obama said was indeed a matter of truth, not neccessarily a “downer towards blacks”. You would think that Jesse would understand that as long as he been active in the black community… which leaves various concerns of what Jesse’s real motives are upon Obama…
Well….Rev Jackson made a bonehead comment!! Yes. On CNN last night Rev. Sharpton had to clean it up. Rev. Sharpton understands that WE need to stick together. He truly believes in Obama and is not just voting for him because of his ethnicity!! Rev. Jackson claims that he is an Obama supporter therfore he needs to support our brother…otherwise join the other team!!
BARACK the VOTE!! Vote ‘08
im tired of ppl saying he got set up and that the whites r just trying to divide us again…wether or not Jessie it behind closed doors he said it and he meant it. the fact that he got caught was his fault and it was meant to happy bc it was brought to light….obviously he just needs to stop being slick because he always gets himself caught up. And the fact that his son is actually a big part of Obamas camp….does that mean that he does not agree with his son??…I think that what both Bill and Obama said is true….Blacks need to take responsible for their own mistakes so that we can move on…the community as a whole has a lot to work on…we cant blame the whites forever. we have plenty of oppportunity and need to seize it instead of playing the victim. And the whole thing about growing up with a single mother…many ppl deal with that situation..you just have to learn from it and move on and try to make things better for yours and your children’s lives…stop with the excuses!!…and the white people are thinking Jessie is our leader, just because he is Black does not mean he represent all of our people…just like some Blacks are not going to vote for Borak…we all have diff opinions.
I would like to give Jessie the benefit of doubt, but he has been out here in this rat race for more than 40 years and should know better than to go on faux and say anything. He has made sooooo many of these gaffs that it is hard for me to not believe he does it to get attention. It’s his ego not his heart that screws him up..
It’s a shame…..for the negative/hurtful comments Rev. Jackson spoke of regarding Senator Obama….Jealous? (YES) Did he mean it (YES) and is he apology for real (NO) Any one who is in the public eye KNOWS better; and to make these comments to FOX reporter off the record? Come on now….Rev Jackson should be apologying to africian americans and over apologying to Senator Obama…..SHAME ON YOU.
Im so sick of this. Why do our leaders do this to each other. As a person who was born in the eighties, I like Barack Obama never experienced the civil rights movement or the ardent racisim that so many of our elders have. But, that does not mean I don’t recognize it or hold it up in high regard. After all, because of these giants, I was able to go to college and gradute school and attain an education that was foreign to black people not to long ago. My problem, it seems the the older generation writes the younger generations off by not having earned there stripes because we didn’t experience that, therefore, making us incapable of recognizing what is happening in the black community. WHY! Just in case Jesse Jackson hasn’t been paying attention, Black Folks have a whole new set of problems we have to face. We have a generation of young people who are lost and its BS like this that takes attention from that fact. As a social worker in Washington DC,I have much respect for Barack Obama working as a community organizer on the southside of Chicago. I feel he and I share alot of idealogies about the state of our people and passionatley want our people to flourish. I believe we can accomplish this by rolling up our sleaves and going to work in our communities AND Obama has done that! I don’t believe I have seen Jesse Jackson workin in the trenches of our inners cities recently. Lately, all I see him doing is running his mouth and looking like a child who is jealous that his baby brother is getting all the attention. Be that as it may, I still respect him for what he has done for myself, my siblings and friends. I wish he could return the courtesy to Obama for making the world see African-Americans in a whole new light.
Maybe Sen. Obama hit a sore spot. Lest we forget Jesse Jackson’s (no need to call him Reverend)illegitimate child he has yet to be a father to. A child needs more than a support check.
The young Mr Jackons will be fine, he is from the younger generation and they are very aggressive and direct in their thoughts and also their knowledge of views on today’s america for one I am proud of his work on assisting the senator on the journey to the white house, family does not always agree on things, and let’s remember REV JACKSON IS NOT SOME ELDER HE IS STILL QUITE ACTIVE AND NESSERSARY IN THIS COUNTRY HE OFFERED HIS APOLOGY FIRST HAND IM SURE SENATOR OBAMA KNOWS THAT HE SEE IN THE REV MUCH KNOWLEDGE AND INSPIRATION TO BE PRAISED HE IS IN FACT THE HORORABLE REVERENED JESSEE JACKSON LET”S STICK TOGETHER ON THE SAME PAGE AND GET THIS TASK DONE
THANK YOU
Why is he not calling for a boycot against himself as he would do with all other’s! This thing with him is not surpising,we are used too him shooting off his mouth without THINKING!!!
Rev. Jesse Jackson should have thought before speaking. Obama is reaching out to us as a people to start taking responsibility for our actions, but especially our own families. He is only speaking the truth. AA men should take more responsibility for their families; especially the children. Men are supposed to be the head of the family. Too many children see their mother as both parents and this is the result of the black-on-black crime we see escallating in today’s society; these children are filled with hate for the absentee father. What happened to men that showed their sons how to work hard, fish and listen to their concerns, that even the closest of young men won’t share with their mothers. Men are supposed to show their children what to expect in life and encourage them to go boldly forward and make a difference in their own and their communities. I have two sons - one is still angry and lost no matter where I try to keep him grounded (church or positive outlets) and the other is busy trying to emulate me. Oh, and before any of you think that I should have made a better choice in fathers; all too often women think we’ve made the right choice and the men are too busy trying to pretend to be self-righteous and doing the same things that other men are doing! Let’s not forget the men in the churches and businesses that could inspire young black men but are too busy pretending to be something else. Why don’t a group of them form an organization to rally around our young men - listen and show them a different way of life! and living! instead of standing around shaking their heads… Obama keep telling it like it is! I know you will be the next president of the U.S. and the greatest - not because of your race, but because of your ideals and morals. Watching you I see a good husband and father; your daughters will know what to expect and demand from the man in their lives, and how to show them respect in return!
It’s time to step back, if you can’t keep your mouth close~~It’s time to step back~~if you need to continue the lies~~It’s time to step back~~if you fall asleep on the job. Wake up Jesse and take a step back….
I simply cannot that one black man would say something like that about another black man. How can anyone in Rev. Jackson’s shoes be this careless? People who have the past Rev. Jackson has should stay in the corner and keep quiet. He lost all credibility when he had his extra marital affair and child out of wedlock. He is never going to be in the true limelight ever again. This just disheartens me to hear a black man say something like that. That hurts to the bone as being reminded what the white men did to black men long ago. I’m going to have to pray to get over this statement and to be able to save a small amount of dignity for the man. God help him.
The only thing I can say here is. Maybe We (the people concerned with this) should take another look. Don’t just look at the surface stuff, or go with the way the writer wants you to feel. Explore all the aspects. Maybe there is more to this than it seems. Why does the known leader have issue with Barak? and Skip the emotional stuff. Look deeper. Hve you guys thought maybe there is more than what we are seeing or allowed to see… Something doesn’t seem right, and Jesse isn’t the only one. Let’s not be to naive here, or cattle.
jesse has been around a long time and his contribution to our community is unwavering he said something that i am sure he regrets lets move on barack 08 lets not feed into the people who would like to keep us devided you know any one who speaks out is labled communist, marxis and what ever else thay can come up with like queen said in hairspray yesterday is history and it is never coming back this is a new day and the train is coming down the track america is the place of all colors races religion and a host of other things some do not want to accept this but it’s real so move on because barack wil;l be our next president hope the change is real
First let me address Hater…I don’t think Obama has said anything wrong when referring to Americans being the only society that does not speak any other language other than English. If you’ve ever been abroad most countries, especially Europe, teach their children a second language. American’s are so arrogant as to think that every other nation should make concessions for us. Well, you see how that’s working out. As for you…Martymarv….why in the heck would Sen. Obama EVER consider putting Jesse Jackson on the ticket as Vice President? Please tell me you were joking.
Reverend Jesse Jackson is only in The Hot Seat concerning Barak Obama only if he think he is. His opinionated statement of Obama, I find to be on time. Millions of Blacks (African-Americans) have jumped this Obama Train, simply because of THE COLOR OF THIS MAN SKIN. When you survey Blacks as to why they are for Obama, the ONLY defining reason, is because he is Black. They have no other intelligent, rational reason, as to their support. As an African-American Male (57 years of age), I am tired of THE SHALLOW Gullible/Credulous way we have portrayed ourselves as DECLARED U.S. Citizens of This Great Sovereign Nation called The United States of America; established by THE HAND OF LORD GOD ALMIGHTY. It remind me of when The Hebrew Children got to the base of Mt. Sinai, and Moses went up into The Mountain to converse with GOD for forty days. Majority of the over 2.2 million told Aaron to get up and build them a replica of The Egyptian Calf god TO LEAD THE BACK TO EGYPT (the place of their bondage for over four hundred years). Barak Obama is not JESUS CHRIST (Our SAVIOR), which majority of The Black Voters flocked to. Obama have said and did things, that he either retracked or he attempted to smoothly wiggle his way out of. JESUS said “A tree is known by the fruit it bears”. As a People, majority of us have gone after this man because of THE COLOR OF HIS SKIN. It wasn’t long ago that The Black Cry was that Bill Clinton was the First Black President, but now, we are saying that he is a Racist. We as a People NEED TO QUIT BEING SO CLUMSILY GULLIBLE/CREDULOUS. Reverend Ira L. Lewis email: iradject@yahoo.com.
Jackson is a pathetic loser. For years he has exploited blacks. He is shiftless, arrogant, a hypocrit as well as, hateful. Dr. MLK would be ashamed of him if he were alive. Shame on you Jesse. Please simply “Go Away!”
Simply Gee well put,
I dont know why people think this and other stories matter, because at the end of the day, voters already got their mind made up on who they are voting for!!!! So stories like this shouldn’t have a damper on who your candidate of choice will be!!!!
Why is it that the older black civil rights leaders are so bitter about Obama? If you ask me Jesse seems to be more of a “hater” then somebody trying to help. Jesse and others that have fought for our rights as black people need to let Obama continue to do what he is doing. He is obviously making more of a big impact in the lives of everyone. Instead of talking about your personal views of Obama or others, try doing something vital in your life, the code of SILENCE.
WOW… Jessie is worse that AR reps at Record companies… Don’t Hate on Obama, because he is about do something that you could not!
i just wanted to say that i don’t agree with Jesse jackson’s rude comment against Barack, but i do undrestand where he’s coming from. You can’t just say take care of your own. Because the white man did play a major role for the reason of black distructive communities. and Barack sholud already know that.
I am so surprise by his comment that it is really appaulling. Everything you have said over the years Mr. Jackson has now gone to the wolves, maybe you should do some self-re-valuating of your inner and outer person. Please learn how to watch what you say, you are suppose to be a Reverend it sure doesn’t seem like it. I guess its just a title not the mention you also have the title Dead beat father also. WOW….. too much
an Obama Hater like you will put him in the oval office.

To Genesis:
I’m not turning on Jesse Jackson…he said this…I’ve always had a bad discernment about Jesse Jackson…I don’t judge…he said what he said and it confirmed my discerning feelings.
To Rev. Lewis:
Obama has said things he’s had to retract but not because it was crude, but because his opponents have been trying to twist his words to make him seem like someone other than who he is. Jesse’s comments were just rude and crude. I’m wanna cut his nuts off? come on you can’t compare that to ANYTHING Obama has said about ANYBODY! We all know what Jesse Jackson has done in the past, but it’s a new day now. That way of thinking regardless of his crude comments is thinking of the past. I tell my students that we have more than enough resources to learn. Computers in the classroom, brand new books, etc…it’s time for us to step it up and be RESPONSIBLE…my DAD thought the same way Obama does about black father’s being responsible…Thank God he did because if he hadn’t there’d be no telling where I would be now. A new leader, new way of thinking, for a new generation…We’re headed into the future, not the past. Get on board or get out the way!
His comments are not surprising. He along with Rev. Wright and Tavis Smiley are the “haters” who will do all they can to witthold support for Senator Obama. BUT - “What GOD has joined together - no man can put assunder.” Senator Obama is in God’s hands - not these ego maniacs.
I am bothered by what the reverend had to say about Barack… Just leads me to think, was he ever really on his team? And how dare you, when your son is on his campaign team… That means you don’t really support what your child is doing. I commend Jessie Jackson Jr. for not defending his father and going against ever word that he said and also acknowledging them as being ugly words that if his dad felt should have been kept to himself.
Jesse go sit down some where!!!!
JESSIE JACKSON IS SO NON-IMPORTANT AND IT IS PEOPLE LIKE HIM WHO ARE SCARED TO FACE THE BLATENT REALITY THAT BLACK PEOPLE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR BLACK PEOPLE, IRREGARDLESS TO WHAT IS REPORTED IN THE MEDIA. NO MATTER WHAT, EVERYONE HAS THE OPPORTUNITY TO REACH THEIR DREAMS. YEAH, THERE IS RACISM, BUT HAS THAT STOPPED OPRAH FROM HER PLIGHT TO THE TOP, HAS IT STOPPED TIGER WOODS FROM HIS, HAS IT STOPPED COLIN POWELL, NO. WHY? BECAUSE THEY CHOSE TO DO THE RIGHT THING, TO NOT SIT AND WORRY ABOUT AFFIRMATIVE ACTION OR WAIT ON THE GOVERNMENT FOR CHANGE, THEY BECAME CHANGE THEMSELVES.
BIG UPS TO OBAMA AND I AM SO PROUD TO BE AFRICAN AMERICAN. WHETHER YOU WIN OR NOT, YOU HAVE ALREADY MADE SUCH A DIFFERENCE IN THE USA. YOU HAVE OPENED OUR EYES BACK UP THE TRUTH THAT OVER 400 YEARS LATER, WE STILL HAVE SO MANY MILES TO GO.
AND TO YOU BLACK FATHERS, LIKE HE SAID, TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR CHILDREN. GROW UP. TAKE CARE OF YOUR CHILDREN INSTEAD OF POLISHING AND GROOMING WHEELS FOR YOUR BIG TRUCK THAT GAS CAN HARDLY STAY IN. IF YOU ARE IN YOUR 40S, PULL YOUR PANTS UP, LOSE THE I AM A TEEN LOOK. THAT IS THE PROBLEM!!!!
Crabs in a bucket: Black folks seem to have a hard time being happy for one another…not always, but definitely in this instance. I’m personally disappointed in Jesse Jackson, but I guess the hating had to start at some point…Oh well, haters make the world go round…GO OBAMA!
SHAME ON YOU JESSE JACKSON. GO AND BE A REAL PARENT TO YOUR CHILD YOU HAD OUT OF WEDLOCK. I AM MORE CONVINCED THAT HE HAS 0 CREDIBILITY IN THE AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY. SHAME ON YOU JESSE!
Jesse Jackson some things are better left unsaid. You are “supposed” to be a man of God? How demeaning, vulgar and distasteful was that comment, even in secret. I pray that you have gone before the throne of repented and asked for forgiveness.
Your integrity and character is tarnished with your actions and comments. What comes from the mouth is in the heart…what a shame. Who do our children have to look up to?
This saddens me to know that you would try to belittle an honorable, strong, Black presidential candidate. Obama is right that Black people should be responsible for themselves, STOP blaming the government and others for our shortcomings. We need to take a look in the mirror and make some changes in our own lives and so do you Mr. Jesse Jackson.
To GOD be the Glory!
In with the New, out with the Old.
ALWAYS A BLACK PULLING DOWN A BLACK. I lost respect and concern for Jesse Jackson after the whole child episode. He is jealous that he did not make it and that Barack has a much better chance than he ever had. Why are our civil rights leaders not trying to make black people aware that they are to blame for 75% of their problems? Are we going to blame white people until the end of time? Or are we going to get up, raise our kids right and educate ourselves properly? Listen to Bill Cosby, “Come on People” or even Charlie Murphy, “We got to do better”. We (Black People) are our biggest enemy.
Jesse is a big joke. I wasn’t much of a fan of his before his affair came to light and was even less of a fan afterwards. Same on the media as well for trying to point out anything that think of that could be considered divisive. I guess they want to divide and conquer.
Jesse go crawl under your rock already, your time has come and gone.
This is not only outrageous but also hypercritical of what Jesse Jackson is supposed to stand for. He has been a civil rights leader since the days of Martin Luther King Jr. he should know better than to say that kind of rhetoric, and especially to a young inspiring black man whom is running for the White House. This isn’t just an election, this is THE ELECTION. If this isn’t jealousy than I don’t know what is. I might not have a Harvard education, but to me this seems a little irrational, spiteful, and stupid on Mr. Jackson’s part. He seems to be upset because Barack Obama stated, “Black folks are responsible for their families and their communities.” Well to me that would be confirmatory we need to just that, so how is that “talking down to black folks?” It’s funny to me how someone who is supposed to be so intelligent and looked upon as one of the elite in black society could say something so arrogant, so irresponsibly. Makes the mind boggle.
What is the problem with black preachers ??? There is nothing Christian in his language and therefore in his heart. He was overheard making anti-semetic remarks during his lame run for office, and he still does not get it.
Mr. Jackson just felt more in line with the absent fathers and thought he was personally being talked down to….maybe.
Jesse if the shoe fits, buy it in two colors.
I don’t really know what to say…the comment was rude and uncalled for. I don’t see anything wrong with Obama calling for our people to step up and do better because it is definitely needed! It is also safe to say that the government could help us out because some people still consider us inferior to other races, but I believe that as a people we should hold ourselves accountable and change stereotypes, support each other, and look out for each other.
I just hope Obama chooses his affiliates wisely, I for one would not put my trust in anyone besides Jesus, my family and myself…I think Jesse Jackson is idiot for saying that dumbazz comment and he must think we just as stupid as he is to set here and actually believe that he is sorry for saying it, he may be sorry his mic was on but he has to true regret for what he said..History has shown as long as you got one good black man coming up in the world you got plenty of hate full negros behind him trying to pull him back down in the bucket etc Martin Lutha, Malcom X and so on… Now I’m not saying Obama is a great as the late X, or Martin Luther King but I think its Barack’s time to shine and run this country, and any lie Obama is spreading cant be no worst then what Mccain, BUSH!!! or any other politician has said before.
Sometimes we are our worst enemies.Jackson was way out of line to say something like this. His own son took shame to this. Dr. King worked to hard for this DAY. Mr. Obama will win, if it be the will of GOD.
I for have not jumped on this Obama Train, simply because of THE COLOR OF HIS SKIN… As an African American women and I want to see change for our country… I do believe Senator Obama is that person to make that change, but with ALL OUR SUPPORT!
It makes me cry…I can’t believe that the same people that preach the word of God are so angry and bitter.
I pray everyday that God keeps his angels surround Obama and his family because of people like Rev. Jesse Jackson and other hypocrites that go to church and use God’s house as a profit ($$$$)!
Rev. Jackson should really be ashamed about what he said. I personally think Jackson is jealous of Obama. Remember when Jackson attempted to run for the presidency, he did not received the amount of campaign funds or endorsements as Obama. To reiterate, Jackson should feel extremly ashamed. Throughtout the history of time “Black people” have always had this divide and conquer mentality that was instilled in them via slavery. Shame, shame on you Mr. Jackson.
‘Messy Jesse’ is a moron. It was only 6 yrs ago the public learned Messy Jesse had a child out of wed-lock. Barack may of truck a nerve in Jesse.
Go, Obama!!! Keep speaking the truth!
Well Mr. Jessie Jackson you put your foot all the way in your mouth,First of all if you can not say somthing nice don’t say anything. How are you trying to say somthing about Obama and several years ago you were almost in Obama shoes.Oh but I forgot you are Rev.Jessie Jackson the same man who got caught up in a sexual situiation and committed adultry on your wife, who got another women pregnant out of wed lock.To me after that nothing you said ever matter again because you showed even though you are a Rev.you still are of the flesh, sitting up talking about people and you are godly. I think you are full of bull and you should be striped of the Rev title you are not fighting for god, you are fighting for your self and against your self and I feel a little jealousy in the air because he wanted to be were Obama is Spit that out (spititout1@yahoo.com)Essie Rerun Berry
God bless the wisdom of Cong. Jesse Jackson,Jr. who has the courage to publicly correct his father, as he has done in the past. Jackson, Sr. has indeed lost his way and he has no moral authority upon which to stand. He embarassed his family and those who follow him with his philandering and subsequently fathering a child by a woman younger than some of his children. He is a rhymning embarassment; with little to no real intellect. ,
Mr. Jackson is a relic–who should retire and support the journey of his brilliant son who has a brilliant future.
Whoever ordained Jackson as a Rev. might want to revisit that act with a question of his worthiness for such a title. Are Black folk the only ones wh o have preachers sans churches or congregations? If Obama turns away from the Black clergy, I would understand. Obama onward and upward.
He who is without sin, cast the first stone. We are all guilty of speaking off he top of our head.
We are no better. Spend some time on the real issues.Rev. Jackson can’t keep Mr.Obama from reaching his goal if it’s for him. We are feeding
into this blame frenzy.
Jesse Jackson Senior should have known better and I think there is some jealousy there. However it saddens me that some of you speak about him or other people with such bitterness. We need to be able to denounce something that someone say or do with out wishing them ill will. Also so we need to recognize that because someone say or do something stupid dose not mean that they haven’t did something good in their life. His son seems to have come out ok. Stop the hate!!!
See Jesse has made me feel bad just because of my last name. I cant believe his ignorant tail got on tv and said some dumb stuff like that. All it is, is jelousy. He couldn’t do what Obama is doing back when he tried to become president. I mean really, he just made a African americans look bad as a whole. Obama already has it hard enough trying to pull in more white votes, bt here comes Jesse making it even harde… And you know it’s something wrong when his own son is speaking against him using his own words lol”Keep hope alive”. I guess
Here we go again Jesse Jackson just want to get his name in the lime light again with something negative to say about Obama.Jesse don’t be Mad cause you didn’t make it this far give the man his PAT on the Back……..HATER……
After reading all of the comments this is much bigger than the comments made it is about us as people. We need to stop hating and let Mr. Jackson deal with his own issues we have bigger fish to fry like get Obama elected President, and leave this mess alone. God will handle Jackson and God will protect Obama. and leave Fox News to them selves (like in the garbage)
I jus saw the video of Jesse Jackson (watch it!!.. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/25618980#25618980 )… he was literally sitting in front of the camera…and we all know that that camera neva turns off…especially on a biased network like FOX news and BILL ORIELLY whom would love to see us flop!!!…come on now…that was the dumbest thing he couldv done…and you see the man beside him biting his lip…didnt say a word cuz u knew the mics and cameras were prolly still on!!….Borak wasnt talkin down to Blacks!!…he was being real!!…we all need that person who will b real wit us and tell us r mistakes even if we dont wana hear it and Borak was doing that because he loves his people and wants them to do right!!!…and YES!!!…THERE ARE TOOOO MANY DEAD BEAT DADS N OUR COMMUNITY!!!…SENDING A CHECK DOES NOT MEAN UR A FATHER..CALLIN ON HOLIDAYS DOES NOT MEAN YOUR A FATHER…SENDING CHRISTMAS GIFTS DOES NOT MEAN UR A FATHER!!!….YOU HAVE TO ACTUALLY Be ThERE!!!…and i think that is basically wat Borak was tryna say!!!…So Black mean who dont take care of their kids GET URSELF TOGETHA!!!!…and if u dont want no kids GET A VISECTOMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!…and women….STOP SLEEPIN WIT LOSERS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Barrack Obama is correct. We as Blacks need to take more responsibility for our families and community. Just because white folk still discriminate against us, that is no cause for us to act the way we do. Father children then don’t be there to support them. Sell drugs in our neighborhoods, kill our own kind and just overall act the fool. Those things have nothing to do with the social unjust we have endured. Jesse Jackson missed the point and I believe he feels left out. No one is down what he has done, now let Obama have his turn with the baton. I agree with Jacksons son for blasting his Father. He deserved it.
jesse needs to stand by mr.obama and quit all of this side hatin, it just goes to show we are our own worst enemy ,we will never be able to circle the wagons around each other like the white folks do.
but lets jus remember that no one is perfect.not even borak…so win he makes a few mistakes in the future dont act like he is a failure or a misrepresntation of black ppl. lets hope he doesnt hold the curse of the past Black leaders that made us look bad.
Perhaps Jesse is a little envious because when he ran for President, he didn’t get that far…..LOL!
Yes, Rev Jackson should have known better to say anything while miked up but the comment was one that many of us might have thought or wanted to say. He just got caught.
Jesse Jackson just never stops. It amazes me how he can cal himself a Reverend and commit adultery and have a child out of wedlock. I haven’t had anything to do with him ever since that story broke.
BLACK PEOPLE DON’T NEED NO MORE LEADERS. THOSE DAYS ARE LONG GONE. WE HAVE TO STAND UP ON OUR OWN. THAT’S WHAT MR. OBAMA IS TALKING ABOUT.
Jesse Jackson is what my grandmother calls a SELF APPOINTED REVEREND. In other words he made his own self a preacher, and just for that you can best believe that he has some suffering days ahead of him. It is so sad how some black people are. JUST LIKE CRABS IN A BUCKET…It was apporopriate for Barack to accept his apology, but he better accept anything else from him…SNAKE IN THE GRASS..SMILE IN YOUR FACE AND WILL STAB YOU AS SOON AS YOUR BACK IS TURNED.
This is very reason why Jesse Jackson or anyone like him could never be President of the U S A!!
America does not want to listen to the rhetoric of civil rights!! Those days are long gone….It’s a new day, it is certainly not the days of the 50s and 60s anymore!!!
Jesse Jackson is a hater. He sees this black man doing more for the black people, more for the country, and more for the world than he has ever done in his miserable political career and he is threatened by Obama’s accomplishments. He is an old fart who needs to shut up. He is supposed to be a reverend and you tell someone that you want to cut his nuts off. How retarded is that? Shame on you Jesse Jackson. And Obama wasn’t even talking down to black people, he was trying to bring them up and tell them what needs to happen to make this world a better place. And Obama should definitely not put his trust in Jesse Jackson or anyone he hangs around. His own son said that that was inappropriate and a disgrace.
Truly sad.
Jesse needs to get right with God and then work on relationships with his fellowman. True colors always have a way of revealing themselves. VERBAL GENOCIDE…hopefully one day we as a people will learn to stand together.
And to the ones who say this was a mistake. NO IT WASN’T. A mistake is you spelling something wrong on a test. A mistake is you messing up in a job interview. A mistake is using salt instead of sugar in your cookies. You telling someone just prior to an interview is NONSENSE and STUPID. You were thinking that all of the time, and it just so happens that the man sitting next to him asked him a simple question and JJ felt it was necessary to “SPILL THE BEANS”. How ignorant can he be? That’s like me making love to my husband and calling out another mans name. That isn’t a mistake that was just me having my mind somewhere else and doing things I shouldn’t be doing. Remember those tapes that got Nixon in trouble? Well this is the type of thing that gets politicians in trouble. If you don’t want it repeated you better keep it to yourself.
Aey if Obama is runing around talkin bad about us then somebody needs to address it. We ‘ve had sell-outs and uncle toms since slavery, not calling Obama one but if he is, the worst thing we can do is put him in offence. If they they got him in their pockets then they can get away wit alot more B.S because it can’t be racial if he”s a black Man can. If he’s really for us then I’m behind him 200 percent, but if he ain’t we in trouble!!!!!
Luv
Always finding some kind of division
First of all I want to say to my people, let us hold our heads up high and be proud of this moment in time. We have a viable black man who will be PRESIDENT of these United States. A country where we never asked to come to but we help shape this nation, even though we were made to feel less than human. There have been comments about Sen. Obama’s inexperience, well who is experienced as President when they first sit at the desk in the oval office. These Presidents, I am sure encounter situations that they never even dream of. Sen. Obama is an intellgient man, he’ll figure it all out. As for Jesse Jackson’s comment, let us just consider the source and not dwell on it. There have been so many comments that I want to touch on, but it would take several pages. So I will touch on the comment that was made about Sen Obama’s airplane and Secretary Ron Brown. All that have commented, let us, in our minds make a big circle, with Sen. Obama and his family in the middle and continuously PRAY to GOD for their safety and well being. You know what the Bible says about two or more praying collectively. Amen
P.S. NO WEAPONS FORMED AGAINST THEM SHALL
PROSPER.
This is just what Obama’s campaign needed. Not all ‘attacks’ will have negative results. The black community will rally to Obama, and the white community will do the same cause he’ll seem less biased to blacks. If I bought into conspiracy theories I’d say the whole thing was planned! All in all, a good show by Jessie Sr. and Jr. Afterall, this is getting more media than the “Obama forgot Hillary’s envelope” story!.
This is quite normal, whenever I visit the US, I usually get more static from black immigration and customs officers.
what ever happened to black folks supporting eachother?
Jesse should be happy that black people are improving, he shouldnt be hating on Sen. Obama when he has clearly worked his ass off to get to where hes at right now. Jesse Should be supporting a Barack and know that this will be a very historical moment in history.
The great divide continues. For a person who is always talking about Keep Hope Alive, it seems like he has lost it. When Black America finally has a chance to keep there head up and move forward the Rev gets jealous. Oh yes that is the only evil that shows its head so proud to be so wrong. He has ran for president how many times? Then finally when another man of color has the people behind him and is way further then he had seen any Black man come, he starts hating. Hating the fact that someone else from a younger generation can come up so fast and get the notoriaty that he has been aiming for for so long. The comment that he made was very unReverend like and he needs to get on his knees and ask for forgiveness from someone higher then us. It just lets us as voters know that we made the right choice in the past to not vote for him and to keep hope alive that a person will come along to truely be able to lead us. Sen. Obama is that person, that true Leader, the Democratic Contender.
Barack Obama has soared to theheights that Jackson aspired to and he is envious and jealous. When he ran for president alot of Black people didn’t even vote for him and now his nose is all out of joint. Furthermore Jackson is not really one to be talking about morality and family responsibility, now is he?
