McCain Addresses NAACP
By Pamela Gentry, Senior Political Producer
(July 16, 2008) – Trying to make the most out of a rare Republican address to a humongous African-American audience, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) told the NAACP convention Wednesday that there needed to be much more energy toward improving education, suring up the economy and eliminating federal spending. The Republican nominee was making a direct appeal for the Black vote.
In recent days, McCain’s African-American party mates have been adamant that he should not concede the Black vote to his African-American rival for the presidency. The Arizona senator’s appearance on Wednesday already puts him ahead of the man he hopes to succeed. President Bush declined the civil rights organization’s invitation throughout his first term in office and spoke to the gathering only once during his second term.
McCain knows he won’t wrestle a slew of Black votes from Sen. Barack Obama, but he opened his remarks with nothing but praise for the Illinois senator. “Don’t tell him I said this, but he is an impressive fellow in many ways,” McCain effused. “He has inspired a great many Americans, some of whom had wrongly believed that a political campaign could hold no purpose or meaning for them. His success should make Americans, all Americans, proud.”
McCain added jokingly, “Of course, I would prefer his success not continue quite as long as he hopes.”
Understanding the importance of education to this audience, McCain used the opportunity to introduce his policies to the audience. To some applause, McCain told 5,000 gathered at the 99th Annual meeting in Cincinnati that “after decades of hearing the same big promises from the public education establishment, and seeing the same poor results, it is surely time to shake off old ways and to demand new reforms.”
A shakeup by a McCain administration would mean more “choice,” including public education dollars to pay for private and religious school education, and better pay for teachers. “I will target funding to recruit teachers who graduate in the top 25 percent of their class, or who participate in an alternative teacher recruitment program such as Teach for America, the American Board for Teacher Excellence, and the New Teacher Project,” McCain said.
While education was the largest focus of the speech, McCain also pledged not to increase taxes as part of his economic plan and to work across party lines, “reforming government and controlling spending.”
“My opponent and I have honest differences as well about the growth of government. And it may be that many of you share his view. But even allowing for disagreement, surely there is common ground in the principle that government cannot go on forever spending recklessly and incurring debt,” McCain said.
The audience was gracious to the Republican presidential candidate and interrupted his remarks with applause on several occasions. McCain ended his remarks by making one last pitch, “I am a candidate for president who seeks your vote and hopes to earn it. But whether or not I win your support, I need your good will and counsel. And should I succeed, I’ll need it all the more.”

McCain ‘08
Obama ‘08!!!
It is unfortunate that racial solidarity is being used to consolidate the black vote to a man who wants to radiclaly socialize Americna industry from health care to oil.
Obamanomics will increase the welfare state by the largest margin since LBJ.
Patrick
I’m not sure about Sen.Obama wants too nationalize the oil industry but it ain’t a bad idea.As far as healthcare,by all means either nationalize it or have a national healthcare plan. The number one thing in labor negotiations is cost of healthcare so such a program is on the way.The one way too pay for the program is too pull out of the fiasco in the middle east.Healthcare is far too expensive and that is why national healthcare will come into effect. You can denmanize it as socialism but must if not all industrial nations have it
Alas,Black people have racial solidarity !!! who would have thought ?
I find it amazing how judgemental people are of a man who’s track record is pretty much flawless. Especially blacks, but hey everyone has an opinion. Everyone is a political expert when it comes to judging Obama. I hope he doesn’t win for the sake of his sanity and his safety. He shouldn’t have to clean up behing the bush resigm.
People will have a field day tearing him apart daily, as they are now, also he will be blamed for things he didn’t even create. Plus I dont want him to be eliminated at the hands of an american terrorist. So let the war junkie win, he deserves all the big fun waiting for in the future. If Obama does win thats fine, but if you think he is getting attacked now, just wait.
Is this the same man that voted “Dr.Martin Luther King Jr.birthday shouldn’t be a holiday?”
John McCain is not interested in issues that concern blacks. I don’t care what he says during his campaign. Just look at his voting record if you need clarity. He has voted 95% of the time with Bush. So if you like the direction the country has been going, then throw out his history and vote for him.
Many blacks aren’t aware of the fact that he voted against a MLK holiday and that his state (Arizona) was that last one to approve it. John McCain maybe a war hero and have more time in as a senator than Obama, but that’s where his advantage ends. He was wrong on the war, he was wrong on Dr. King’s holiday and he will be wrong for this nation as its Chief Executive.
The fact that he showed up at the NAACP Conference may be attributed more to his courage as a war vet and former POW than his desire to “listen” to the needs of blacks. Republicans don’t even consider the black vote worth courting. They rely on rich, conservative self-serving white people who see most blacks as a burden to this country’s economy and the reason for most of the crime we suffer. Just listen to their supporters and pundits like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity if you have any doubt what the GOP thinks about black America. John McCain’s vision for this country has always been and continues to be “white.”
jfffnn,
You really think the government taking over the oil industry is “not a bad idea”. Have you seen how they manage the public schools, public housing, highways and roads….the social security program…TAXES? Then you want nationalized healthcare. The government can’t manage our veteran’s healthcare, what makes you think they can handle a nationalized healthcare system.
Also, we fought against socialism and communism in the past, so why would you want that? It’s scary to think people are willing to throw away our freedoms because of one bad president (BUSH).
JOHN MCCAIN IS NOT THE MAN FOR PRESIDENT,THAT’S
ALL I HAVE TO SAY.
Gary, you took the hammer and hit the nail head on. Bush nor McCain need the Black vote. It is much bigger than we will ever know. Soon this fight will be over for everyone. They already have the plan, it has been in play for years. It has never included Blacks. So when you feel as if nothing is going your way remember it’s by design.
Obama08 POWERFUL!!! Even McCain has to admit it he strikes something in people. I have never been involved as i am now in politics. i voted for the first time in a primary election Obama all the way. There is no way a repulsive cartoon is gonna stand in our way.
How is it that, Jesse, Barry O, Farrahkan, Rev Wright and Jesse Jr. are all Chicago based and yet, the mayor is considering bringing in national guard. Obama can’t even take care of his states largest city, how is he going to run the country ? All of his advisors, are ex-Clinton advisors, so what change ?
Why is there no reporting on Iraq wanting to put a timeline on the exit of US Forces.
Gary and Justice,
Cry me a river. I guess all the black CEO’s of major business is by design. The thousands of black-owned business are by design. The fact our HBCU’s are still kicking is by design. The black majors and governors, past and present, are by design. I guess Booker T. and George Washington Carver were by design. I guess Sean Combs, Shawn Carter and Russell Simmons are by design too. I guess the white man designed this system to bamboozled black people and keep us in slavery. Yeah I get it! We have to stop this blame game. Our American constitution sets us on the same level as white people. We are not inferior.
By the way, I listen Rush and Sean and I don’t get that same feeling you get. I think the problem you have is that Rush and Sean don’t suck up to black people. And we don’t suck ups.
Even with McCain’s vote we still got MLK holiday. That should tell you something.
Any black person that would vote for John McCain MUST TULY HATE themselves.
McCain doesn’t care about black people and his track record shows that..
* he voted against MLK day-then wants to apologize 20 years later..Are you serious?
* he voted against any legislation that would help Katrina victims (mostly Black victims)
So please don’t come up to the NCAA meeting talking about how you want our help!!
Don’t be believe the hype! NOT THIS TIME!!!
Obama 2008
Sorry meant “TRULY HATE THEMSELVES”
So because I’m black and voting for McCain I TRULY HATE myself. That’s an ignorant statement.
Could it be I compared what’s important to me, my family and America to what each candidate stands for? Maybe I researched each candidate found some things I liked, found some things I dislike and made the best choice possible. Maybe I’m not bitter enough? I wonder if my legally purchased handgun is getting in the way of my decision making. So for me to cast my vote based on the history of each candidate on issues important to me, I TRULY HATE myself.
So to prove I love myself I must go against my principles, empty my wallet and vote for a black man regardless of how ridiculous his policies are. Well call me Mr. Sellout, Mr. Uncle Tom or whatever makes you feel better about yourself. But when it comes down to it I’m voting for lower taxes for EVERYONE; for drilling EVERYWHERE; for smaller government; for social security reform. I’m voting against decreasing military funding; against increasing capital gains tax; against universal healthcare.
I guess that’s just the hate in me!
Actually both canidates have very good points of why they should be elected and sad to say that both want to have amesty for illegals. If you really care about the issues an honest person can’t sit there an say that their is not one thing Sen McCain is for that will benefit them and vice versa. Be honest with yourself. Don’t vote for the color of skin, vote with the facts.

Gary In Pismo, First off, McCain as well as Obama is not running for black America, they are running for the United states of America. Fortunately, Its not all about you or just blacks in general. Did he vote against the Holiday for MLK? yes, but not because he is a “Racist” but cause he is a conservative and they dont like to waste money, but he has apologized to the black community personaly about the vote and regrets it. Second, The Stability in Iraq has improved and the violence has gone down 90% since last year alone. Obama gave a speech being against it but he wasn’t in the senate yet and didn’t have a vote and any of the intelligence that everyone else had. He said his self that if he was in the senate, he doesn’t know how he would have voted and he didn’t have any of the info. then when he got to the senate, voted to fund the war time and time again, then he said that he agreed with bushes handling of the war, the handling that failed miserably and is the reason why we are still over there. Thats why Bill said that the fact that he was against the war the whole time was a fairytale. like Hillary, she voted for the war but her vote was merely a threat and to give bush the authority to go to the UN and get more investigators to go into Iraq to search for Weapons of mass destruction, but Bush didn’t because he is a lousy Prez. also instead of bashing McCain for showing up at an event that he knows that they could give a rats ass about him showing up, and the polls showing him getting as little as 2% of the black vote, you should be thanking him for showing up. what he did took courage and he obviously is showing that no American will be counted out in his book even if they are resistant to him. The people was so rude they even was reading news papers and taking naps. And people like you need to stop always depending on the government to give you a spoon full. he is not your mom nor dad and people need to take more responsibility for their own lives like Obama even said. I know that there are people in the Black community that really do need help and struggle and McCain has an education plan that would give higher pay to teachers who work hard and bring their class averages up and provide school vouchers so students will have a chance to afford a private or charter school along with busting out of the neighbor hood. I like Obama’a plan too to have more early childhood programs in school and increase every teachers pay, though i dont think that every teacher should get pay cause there are really some bad teachers out there that is the reason why sone kids fail. I am actually split between Obama and McCain as an early Hill supporter, i think McCain is right about the war and if this war isn’t delt with properly than if you though tthe economy was in bad shape, you wait until Iran cut of the supply. and McCain is for drilling and we need that oil to prevent such a disaster. I like that Obama wants to go after the companies that are pocketing the money as well. I think that Obama will probably be better on the economy but i will decide later on in the election.
@Alex
My brotha I don’t what fantasy your in…but pass me that $#@T you smokin. You make Clarence Thomas look like Malcolm X. You can hate yourself, but don’t be little us because we don’t want Mccain.
Who do you think you are? How is your research and better then anyone elses? The few people that have found success in this country, yes it’s by design. Out of all of the people you named except for Carver and Washington, who did these people have to pacify to get where there at.(YT) Why are there historically black colleges genius? The same reason my fraternity was formed, because we couldn’t be apart of the white mainstream brotha.
You white blacks kill me with your rhetoric, sounding like a limbaugh-oreilly recording. Kill yourself if you don’t like being black. But don’t tell me someone who couldn’t recognize King’s birthday is the guy for blacks. Do you think you smart because you think like the average white american? Does that make you feel better at the job when your bashing Obama with all your white co-workers? You need help bro, does your mom know you don’t like being black?
AnnaB, your statement on blacks voting McCain hating themselves is truly an outrageous statement.
MLK was a republican anyway
He was for equality in ALL people as well for civil rights. he would be proud of Obama (even though the guy is from Hawaii and never grew up or embodied the African American experience) but he would want people to be free in exercising their freedoms
Also AnnaB McCain vote against extra Oil Assistance to help All Hurricane victims. you know Allot of whites was effected by it to on the other coast. everything a black person gets in trouble or anything happens to black people, its because the white people are either racist or just doesn’t care.
TO ALEX
You don’t have to go anything! But if “YOU REALLY LOVE YOURSELF” YOU WOULD KNOW YOU WOULD NOT BE WHERE YOU ARE TODAY HAD IT NOT BEEN FOR PEOPLE LIKE MLK!
SO SUPPORT MCCAIN-BUT DEEP DOWN YOU KNOW IT, IF YOU REALLY LOVED BEING BLACK YOU COULDN’T EVEN THINK TWICE ABOUT VOTING MCCAIN-HE HAS SHOWED US WHAT IT THINKS ABOUT BLACKS ON MORE THAN 1 OCCASION!
THINK ABOUT IT HE DIDN’T BOTHER TO APPROVE BILLS THAT WOULD HELP KATRINA VICTIMS!
THERE’S NO LOVE THERE! BY THE WAY, ITS OBVIOUS THAT YOU HAVEN’T LOOK EACH CANDIDATE’S VOTING RECORD OBAMA SUPPORTED THE SUPREME COURT DECISION ON HANDGUNS!
lOOK AT YOURSELF IN THE MIRROR AND REMEMBER IN THIS WORLD YOU WILL ALWAYS BE BLACK FIRST!
NOT BLACK WHEN IT FITS YOUR AGENDA!
@Alex
Playa are you white? If not you make Bob Johnson
look like Marcus Garvey. You need to re-watch Panther, Malcolm X and Roots. A few blacks getting thrown a couple of dollars is success to you? The HBCU I attended was founded by civil war veterans in the eighteen hundreds. You want to know why, because we couldn’t go to the mainstream schools. Don’t down other blacks because we don’t think like white americans.
If you want your sons and grandsons to go to war for the next hundred years thats fine. But don’t belittle us because we don’t.
UM AnnaB, Obama supported the DC gun band until he got the nomination raped up, then he flip flopped and said he supported the supreme court decision. Obama said the gun band was constitutional then ha said it wasn’t. look at his record, he supported the gun band in his hometown of Chicago.
here is proof of his flip flop and big lie
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJFO6COAMCY
ROBERT! THE STATEMENT IS TRUE, DON’T HATE BECAUSE I AM STATING THE TRUTH! BEHIND CLOSED DOORS, I KNOW MLK WOULD KNOW WHEN TO CALL A MCCAIN’S BLUFF. MCCAIN VOTED LAST YEAR 95% OF THE TIME LAST YEAR WITH BUSH!!
DID YOU KNOW THAT!?
KATRINA VICTIMS-LOOK UP HIS VOTING RECORD! I’M PRETTY HE WOULDN’T KNOW THAT HE VOTED AGAINST IT BECAUSE LIKE HE SAID I HAVE VOTED FOR SO MANY THINGS IN THE SENATE I DON’T REMEMEBER! WHEN HE DIDN’T REMEMBER VOTING AGAINST BC PILLS (TWICE)BEING COVERED BY INSURANCE COMPANIES
HE ALSO VOTED AGAINST GIVING MONEY TO THE LEVEES WHICH ALOT OF PEOPLE IN IOWA, MISSOURI ETC WERE OUT OF HOUSES BUT THEN HE SHOWS UP THERE LIKE HE CARES ABOUT IT!
OBAMA WAS AND HAS BEEN AGAINST THE WAR IN IRAQ BECAUSE THE REAL FIGHT IS IN AFGHAN. OBAMA HAS BEEN TALING AFGHAN FOR 2 YRS AND NOW MCCAIN WANTS TO TAG ALONG TO AFGHAN!
HATE TO SAY BUT WE WILL NEVER BE UNITED AS PEOPLE, WE HATE OURSELVES TO MUCH TO EVER TO THAT!
Obama would unifty this world and our nation! He is the best candidate hands down!
WE HAVE NEVER AND WILL NEVER PROSPER WITH A REPUBLICAN IN OFFICE ESPECIALLY MCCAIN! THE POOR GET POOER AND THE RICH GET RICHER..PERIOD!
POORER AND THE RICH GET RICHER
@alex
So glad to hear you are not like the rest of us blacks. Your white ‘friends’ must tell you how smart you are all the time.
Do your parents know that you are ashamed of them?
ANNAB, i have to say you put up a good fight and i enjoy it to, but your views and my views are different. i am an independent. i disagree with McCain allot as well as Obama.
McCain voted for aid to the victims of the hurricane, but not for extra oil.
I agree with him on the BC situation. it will only encourage people who has insurance and if Medical would cover it, to only have more sex, especially young adults.
I disagree with him on not giving money to invest on updating the levees. but that doesn’t mean he care, and its nothing but white people over their so no one can say he doesn’t care about black people. remember, he is an CONSERVATIVE. anything he thinks that is a waste of money he will not fund.
No body is ignoring the situation in Afghanistan. McCain has been aware and has address it time and time again.
Obama became chairman of the Afghanistan committee in January 2007 who deals with the forces of fighting in Afghanistan and guess how many meetings he has had? a BIG WHOPPING ZERO.
He was to busy getting ready for his run for Prez instead of doing his job.
Obama has not shown any real capability to unite the country and the rallies don’t count. instead he was race baiting in south Carolina and was framing the Clinton campaign of playing the race card to divide black voters and to impose negativity on the Clinton camp. also it benefited him politically. don’t believe me? Watch the proof.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQY_9ZcsjpQ
EXCUSE ME ROBERT!
JOHN MCCAIN DID NOT VOTE FOR RELIEF FOR HURRICANE KARTINA VICTIMS!
JUST HE VOTED AGAINST PREVENTIVE CARE FOR MAMMOGRAMS BEING COVERED BY INSURANCE COMPANIES, JUST LIKE HE VOTED AGAINST PLANNED PARENTHOOD ADVANCEMENTS
MCCAIN HAS BEEN HARPING ON IRAQ! BUT YET DIDN’T SUPPORT THE GI BILL! OBAMA HAS BEEN ON AFGHAN CORRECT IT-NEVER MCCAIN UNTIL MONDAY!
AND AS FAR AS ATTENDANCE, MCCAIN HAS THE “WORST” ATTENDANCE IN THE ENTIRE US SENATE! HE DOESNT EVEN CARE TO COME TO HIS DAY JOB WHICH HE WAS ELECTED TO BY THE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TAKE A LOOK AT EVERY INTERNATIONAL POLL AND YOU WILL SEE THAT FROM EGYPT, AUSTRALIA, ENGLAND, GERMAN, JAPAN AND ON…THEY ALL WANT OBAMA TO THE NEXT PRESIDENT..
IN CASE YOU DIDN’T KNOW BUSH HAS TARNISH OUR REP OVERSEAS…ITS NOT JUST ABOUT THE RALLIES EVERYONE IS EXCITED ABOUT HIS CANDIDACY!
AGAIN, WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY ABOUT 95% VOTING RECORD FOR 2007 WITH BUSH!!
SOUNDS LIKE A THIRD TERM OF BULL, IF YOU ASK ME!!
IN MCCAIN’S WORDS , I’M NOT KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THE ECOMONY AND THEN HIS SR. ECOMONY ADVISOR (GRAHAM) SAY WE ARE IN A MENTAL RECESSION.
MCCAIN, “GRAHAM DOESN’T SPEAK FOR ME!” HOWEVER, GRAHAM IS THE ONE THAT DREW OUT HIS ECONOMY PLAN, GRAHAM IS THE ONE TAKING ECONOMY QUESTIONS FOR MCCAIN ON TRIPS…AND TO MAKE IT WORST GRAHAM IS ALSO ATTACHED TO THE “ENRON LOOPHOLE”
PLEASE MCCAIN IS MCSAME WITH MCBUSH WRITTEN ALL OVER IT!
OH AND BY THE WAY ON THE BC PILLS SITUATION!!
ITS OKAY TO NOT HAVE INSURANCES COVER BC PILLS BUT COVER VIAGARA!!!?
WHAT KIND OF SENSE DOES THAT MAKE!!
BC PILLS BEING COVERED BY INSURANCE COMPANIES IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS VIAGARA!
BC PILLS BEING COVERED BY INSURANCE IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS VIAGARA!
MCCAIN AGAINST ABORTION AND BC PILLS BEING COVERED BY INSURANCE COMPANIES!
?? MCSTUPIDITY!
Wow! those are really good arguments. I had those same debates with my best friend (who is black) until I was blue in the face. After we finished and realized both candidates are pretty good. The deal breaker is vote for the one who looks like us. If your black and you don’t vote for Obama that means you must be so smart and have so much information you are running for president yourself! I worked for the government so I know that there is alot of information that can be twisted so we stay in constant debate over things that are decided before we even turn in the balot.
It is about my black community first, then my country. If my community is strong, my country will be stronger!
Sorry I just realized there is another joe on the blog. I am the july 18th joe. with the previous blog about community first
The major issues of the 2008 cannot be materially framed as problack or antiblack.
The War on Terror (against Islamofascism) has no color. Unfortunately, Obama would capitulate to Islamofascists. Let us ask ourselves this: are we willing to stand up to Iran if they try to obtain nuclear weapons?
I do not think the US should sit around and do nothing while the Hitler of Iran is actively seeking nuclaer weapons.
Government spending has no color. Even if we leave Iraq the day that Obama is inaugurated, Obama’s new spending programs of 850 billion dollars has the potential to bankrupt the country.
We cannot afford Obamanomics unless every American (black or white) is willing to pay over half of their income to taxes.
No reasonable person would in their right mind consider for the government to take over any industry. We are capitalists. If we want to keep America an innovative society, it is imperative for us to avoid any socialistic machinations.
In this election, McCain shares my governmental philosophy of limited government and decreasing government spending and McCain is willing to fight the Islamofascists to the last man.
Unfortunately and regrettably, I cannot say the same about Barack Obama.
Therefore,
McCain 08!!!
ANNAB, McCain has been focusing on Afghanistan, it depends from where you get your news from. probably from the liberal media dont you? FOX news is the only Media outlet that states McCain’s position on Afghanistan. McCain said that he will only send more troops to Afghanistan if needed or requested and now that reports came in this weak about the die hard situation there, he has restated his position to send more troops there because they are needed and since Iraq is more stabilized. Obama has been focusing on Afghanistan WAY more because he knows that he is wrong to pull our troops out of Iraq so fast. Thats another reason why you here that from Obaam way more than McCain and its the same reason why McCain is playing up Iraq to trumpet off his superior judgment. Actually in January Obama had the Absolute Worst attendance record of everyone in the senate until McCain decided not to show up as much. Obama voted Present over 100 times on issues like Guns, religion, taxes, and Abortion during his one year in the senate until he started to make a run for president. that’s why he did it because he knew he was going to run for president.
McCain is Pro-Life and is against abortion ans other issues that are not natural. I disagree with Pro Lifers because i think that those issues are Human rights.
I am Aware of McCain’s voting like Bush 95% of the time in the senate and i dont agree with everything, like i said in my last post i am stuck between the economy or national security and the war cause if the war doesn’t go right, we will be into more deep water even with Obama as Prez. McCain has better plans on how to deal with the war than bush. I don’t like how Obama would do it because he would want to have talks with the leader of Iran without pre-conditions and that is very dangerous and naive. I agree with McCain that patient Diplomacy is the way to go and we cannot meet with dictators without pre-conditions. it has been debunked time and time again.
And it doesnt matter what the hell a international poll says. we are the deciders and they just see History being made. they dont know every single thing. Bush has kind of ruined the US standing in the world but McCain wont be the same when it comes to foreign relations and Obama wont be the same either.
now i don’t think that we are in a mental recession, that is a ridicules statement. I don’t find paying 4.50 for gas mental. But you cant say that McCain thinks the same way cause if that’s the case then i can say that Obama thinks like his mentor pastor racist Rev. Wright, now that’s not a fair comparison isn’t it? Like i said i don’t agree with all of McCain’s plans for the Economy like cutting taxes for the rich. But i also don’t want to pay extra myself, Obama is considering a Capital gains tax that will effect over 125 million people. that is not good timing. Like i said i am more on Obama ’s side when it comes to the Economy.
OK doesn anyone see my blog about black America? it says waiting moderation but dont know if anyone actually see it. please let me know. thanx. ^^
i refuse to examine anymore because everything and partick are taling about is HORRIBLE!
you should know that FOX News doesn’t like black people either.
Graham is Sr. Economic Advisor attached to “ENRON LOOPHOLE” Wright HAS NEVER worked for OBAMA’S CAMPAIGN OR HAS DREW UP A PLAN FOR IT!
i’M DONE! I JUST CAN’T REALLY THINK THAT ANYONE WOULD BE SO IGNORANT TO VOTE FOR MCCAIN!
BUT THEN AGAIN WE HAD BUSH IS OFFICE FOR 2 YEARS!
OH AND PATRICK, REMEMBER THE NEXT TIME YOU GET PULLED OVER THAT “THERE IS COLOR” TRY AND EXAMINE THAT TO THE COP.
ANNAB, Its not true that FOX doesnt like blacks. you have to look at situations on both sides. Oh and Wright was working on the Obama camp as spiritual adviser to everyone.
And Patrick i think that we could use a little bit more Government because people can use assistance like more job programs along with educational programs. We have to have some kind of spending and the bush Administration is finding that out the Hard way so i disagree with you
All I needed to hear Mccain say was he knows how to win wars!!! After 7 years of losing and 12,000 soldiers dying. I dont think so!!!!
OBAMA 08!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
on the 1st day after Katrina destroyed New Orleans. President Bush and MCcain were at an Air Force Base in Arizona celebrating MCcains birthday. What kind of crap is that. Google it. Its also on youtube.
AnnaB, racial profiling is not being discussed by any one of the candidates this year. It is not a major issue in this campaign.
Robert, for the last three decades the government has already been spending millions on job programs, and education. If they have not worked yet, what make you think spending another dollar will help to solve the problem.
Government is not the answer to what ails the American people (black, white, red, or yellow). Government is the exact problem.
Every elementary student of economics know that the government debt is main the cause behind the rise in inflation which cause the value of your dollar to fall while prices of everything from food to gas goes up.
We must control government spending to decrease inflation to build up the value of our dollar.
Alex
The public school system is a local issue so don’t equate the oil and healthcare industries with public schools. GWB’s no child left behind is in shambles because of GWB himself as well as the vetrans hospital so if you want too blame somebody, blame the Surpreme Court appointed President. The bottom line is affordabilty for all, that is why healthcare is at the top of all labor negotians. If the government nationlized the oil industry the price of gasoline would not be as much as it is because there would be no quest too make profits and pay high salaries to CEOs’.I know you don’t understand because you don’t want too understand.
hard to believe.i heard this news times from many friends playing on a tall dating site : Tallmingle….com ,i did not believe, i think that they are know nothing but dating and love.
i am wrong.
No Robert, I’m sorry but as soon as I heard you say that you DON’T care about how America is perceived around the world. I was DONE!
Every American should care about our international view, our own allies don’t really care for us right now. Its that type of thinking that has us in the situation that we are in right now. That’s why people want to bomb us because “some amercians” don’t care about how we are viewed. Keep sleeping on North Korea! And you can’t fight everyone..period.. We have to be able to talk with our enemies (Bush is doing so now with Iran)
You talk about January for Obama’s attendance, which I will look myself. But McCain has been absence from the senate for well over 6 mths, he didn’t even bother to show up for the vote on the GI BILL. McCain’s voting record with veterans is HORRIBLE!!! His rating against veterans is like 20% to Obama’s 80%. WRIGHT was not working with the OBAMA Campaign!!!!! You really should go to mybarackobama.com, because a lot of what you are claiming about Barack is really untrue! Fight the Smears!
Partick, I mentioned racial profiling because maybe you could mention that to a cop when they pull you over that “I voted for McCain so I’m like you please don’t arrest me, I wasn’t for the black man!”You’ll see that you haven’t made it eventhough you talk like you have.
Sorry, but the veterans have given McCain a rating of 20% to Obama’s 80%. Obama has a more favorable view from veterans, go figure!
Oh and go ahead and vote for a man (McCain) that continues to use Czechoslovakia, which doesn’t exist anymore its now the Czech Republic!!
Oh and McCain confusing the “sunnis with the shiites” there you go Sherlock! That’s presidential material-YEAH RIGHT!
We need another stupid president! “Birds of a feather, flock together”
@ all who showed me love, thanks.
But I refused to live my life scared to succeed because of what white people did in the previous generations. Ya’ll miss my whole point. Ya’ll read my stuff and determine something was wrong with me because I want to take home must of my payroll check. Ya’ll figure I’m brained washed by white people because I see black people succeeding and creating wealth for them self and their family. Silly me, I figured if they can do it I can. Ya’ll so PRO-black to the point ya’ll ignorant. Forget that, I don’t have time to live bitter. I have a family to take care of.
Congrats Obama but I need my money.
Read robert’s comments. He makes good points.
Nobody is bitter!! Obama will not raise taxes on anyone that makes less than 250K a year. If you make more than, he will tax you! The Rich should not keep getting rich while the poor get poorer as you can see the economy will not grow that way. We have to have a thriving middle class which is what Obama wants for us.
And I know when to call bull, when I see it!
Roberts points are not good! Robert has twisted views on Obama so he really needs to read up! FIGHT THE SMEARS! I find it funny that you didn’t mention my talking points, maybe cause the “truth hurts”
And Robert, John McCain was on a foreign relations commitee that met 6 times in 2 years and McCain SHOWED UP ZERO TIMES!!
Robert
just a couple of things,1)you are confusing what Sen.Obama did in the Illinois legilature and what he has done in the U.S.senate where he and Sen. Clinton have pretty much the same voting record sans Iraq which Sen. Clinton voted for before Sen. Obama was elected to the senate 2) FOX only likes consevative blacks any progressive black is castigated which is why they are always attacking Sen.Obama and his wife.3) Believe it or not the greatest threat to national security is a weak economy, poverty is a sure fire recipe for revolution.
B.E.T. make sure the ones posting are using thier user name,I never posted that stuff about “nobody is bitter”and I never stated anything about Robert has twisted view on Obama even though I understand what the poster was saying. B.E.T. waas not this bad when Bob. Johnson was the owner.
Nobody is bitter!! You sound bitter! Obama will not raise taxes for anyone that makes under 250K a year. The Rich should not keep getting richer and the poor gets poorer as you can see the economy will not grow. We need a thriving middle class in order to grow this economy which is what Obama wants for us.
And Alex, we all know when to call someone bull too!
Robert’s points are not good. He is stating a lot of falsehoods about Obama. He really needs to educate himself on Obama. FIGHT THE SMEARS!! It’s funny that you said my talking points weren’t good, maybe because the “truth hurts”
Oh and Robert, John McCain is on a foreign relation committee that met 6 times in 2 yrs and McCain showed up “0 times”
Again, it takes a fool to follow another fool. 95% voting record with Bush, there is no EXCUSE FOR THAT!
All of this back and forth stuff is getting us nowhere.
All I want is my community…the black community…to focus more on education and wealth creation than racial injustice. We have more control over that than we do trying to change the minds of racist white folks.
If Obama get’s his chance I hope he does not take that opportunity to weaken Americas influence in the world by appeasing our enemies and creating a socialized nation. Keep it simple. That means (to me) low tax, strong military, concrete nation security, tough foreign policy, energy independence. I think the American people can handle the rest.
Alex,
So you would still vote for a candidate that would not vote for the MLK Holiday??? You would actually support someone that would not support funding for Katrina victims???? And did I hear you correct when you said that Our American Constitution sets us on the same level as white people??? YOu didnt say that….I just know you didnt!!! I will laugh that one off!!!! Do you really hate your race of black people that bad, to act as if there was no slavery, no equal opportunity, no segregation, no beatings of small black kids, mothers and fathers, no justice, No justice for Katrina victims, in this great country called America!!! YOu have got to be kidding me!!! You are not in tune with your rich black heritage at all, if you think that the american constitution mades blacks on the same level as whites!!!
Clint
You said on another board that I was no joke, which is absolutly correct. But I have too tell you man that your post to Alex was no joke you HIT the nail on the head, quite commendable. How could any Black person vote for a person that didn’t for MLK holiday and did not vote for support of Katrina victims.what scares me is that Alex doesn’t think racial justice is a priority.Healthcare, strong economy, education are all priorities on the same level.
There is a major disconnect. Did I say anything about not liking my black heritage. Did I say anything about getting in bed with white folks. You mf’s can’t comprehend. All of my points have been pointing to the future. I’m talking about education, wealth, and government. I’m talking about taking our fate into our own hands. Of course I would not ignore slavery and the previous injustices. Of course there are still injustices being perpetrated. But we have to make a decision. Am I going to live in the past or learn from the past? White people can’t hold me down. Look at all these successful black people out here. Ya’ll better get it right!
Look, I live in New Orleans and Katrina was a failure by everybody; city, state and federal, black and white. Yet, I didn’t know he did not support funding for Katrina. clint, you telling the truth?
Jfffnn, I just don’t think racial injustices can keep us from success anymore. It needs to be dealt with…thank God for Sharpton…but black on black crime, HIV and education are more important – I believe.
Alex, you need to wake! McCain did not vote for funding for Katrina victims!
I have repeatedly pointed that out and many other stances on McCain’s voting record! Look it up, McCain is not for anybody black or for women!
Oh and if you know anybody that lived in Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Minnesota etc…
McCain voted against giving money to the levees!
Read my other posts too!
Alex, they will never understand so like me you should just quit. they are one sided and quit frankly the black community is becoming more polarizing.
Well Robert, maybe you should go over to the white community then!

Alex and Robert
I don’t understand your responses to my comments. You both seem bent on defending McCain and his policies while calling all who disagree with you outrages or ignorant. That seems to be typical of blacks (if you even are black) that feel somewhat superior to other blacks.
First of all, my comments were specifically directed at McCain’s attempt to win black votes by attending the NAACP Conference. It had nothing to do with me blaming white people for problems that we as black folk encounter. I’ve blogged about that elsewhere and I have never been known as one who shirks personal responsibility for my circumstances or advocate that of any fellow Black Americans. You’ve got me twisted.
No one’s talking about being a victim here. That’s coming out of your heads. I’m talking about apples and you’re talking about oranges. We’re probably on the same page about a lot of the things you two hold as an opinion, but here you went way out in left field commenting on things I never dealt with.
McCain’s record speaks for itself. You can’t defend it. You just got to accept it for what it is…Right-wing, Bush-shadowing politics. Again, I reiterate my previous point that McCain has never shown much concern for blacks in his voting record as a senator and I personally don’t believe that he voted against MLK’s Birthday as you suggested, because he’s a conservative who is concerned about the economy, while he continued to vote with Big Oil and tax breaks for the rich. Check his record if you don’t believe me. Its public record. So, don’t lecture me on black victimization or suggest that black people who are law-abiding, hard working citizens of this great nation are somewhat paranoid because we understand that there’s a difference between “Living the American Dream” and the reality of “Living in America.”
this whole election of 08 aint bring america together its more likely tearing us apart..and it dont help that bet is bet..target audience is for black people only and we have jst black colleges call black colleges..this 2008 why cant stop with try’n make are differences known and instead come together..that fact of the matter nothing is goin to change by one president..when that president comes in u and everyone else will probably find something u dont like and turn against him..the people of today and tomorrow: that those of born from the 80’s til now..we need to stand up be what we are called to be instead of take what the media tell us..be different be yourself and stop attacking everything that aint u..God made us all different..like it and shut..or jst die..
anna b, please what type of silly comment is “anyone who votes for mccain must truely hate themselves..?” that is a dumb comment. what is it, by force to like someone who has the same skin tone as you just because??? . i find those type of stupid emotional black mail comments irritating and unenligtened. i dont have time for republicans but politics is something completely different from so called “race loyalty” that americans have fostered within themselves.. After all, Condilizza Rice plays a big part in america’s foriegn policy decisions and is a key player in the close relations between israel and the usa… she works for white govts quite happily against black countries … now, where is “race loyalty ” in her activities?. you vote according to your conscious…
barack obama does not depend on the black block vote to get into power.. after all, where was black support before the iowa cacus?. this is someone who is a self motivator and who truely believes in himself.. this is someone who has the type of self worth that just doesnt come from within, it comes from without.. his upbringing has a lot to do with the way he has approached (this journey….blacks may now bask in its reflectged glory but they of course ignore the fact that he was brought up and inspired by his white grandparents who had no time for black people but loved their grandson… and where else in the world can the son of an african visitor ,( not an immigrant, a visiting student).become the president or head of that country?. only in america ….
olounwa:
you are often very hostile and extremely emotional on these BET blogs. are you equally active in your own country’s matters? you have much criticiam and strong opinions on black america. what are you doing about the senseless slaughtering of black africans by black africans in YOUR country, the serious political issues, the raping of girls and women, the butchering of men and boys in the villages. what are you doing about the starving babies, unsafe living conditions, lack of clean drinking water and extremely high HIV/AIDS rates? it would seem to me that you have enough problems in your own country to deal with!!!
John McCain go sit you a$$ down! We don’t want you, no more than you want us.
I am tired of my people deciding their vote based off of a man’s skin color. Most black’s are religious right? Well if we are then why are we not weary of Obama for attending that church for as long as he did? Think people, think! It’s not all about black and white. I have heard more blacks talk about a man’s color than I have heard whites talk about it.
I am black:
I am black to and I RESENT YOU ASSUMING THAT BLACKS ARE VOTING FOR OBAMA ONLY BECAUSE OF HIS RACE. WE ARE JUST AS CAPABLE AS YOU ARE OF RESEARCHING HIS STAND ON THE ISSUES AND MAKING INFORMED DECISIONS. DID GOD GIVE YOU THE ONLY BRAIN IN THE BLACK RACE!!!!
I am black,
What I’m weary about is people like you that want to tell other people that who they believe in (for whatever reason) is wrong just because you don’t agree with their decision. Vote for whoever you want and don’t worry about anybody else’s vote!!! And what have white people done for you that makes you their spokes person???
I have noticed that many have implied that a vote against MLK day is a vote against the concerns of the black community.
An annual holiday in honor of Dr. King does not effectively elevate any black person in this country.
I admire Dr. King like any other black person but to close down banks, government buildings, and schools annually in honor of one single man is not prudent.
Patrick,
Lol!!!! Please tell me you didnt say what you just said!!!!! If it wasnt for Dr. King, You, my friend would not be blogging on this BET.com website, there would not be a BET.com,…..How on God’s green earth could you disrespect, first of all your self, and every single person on this blog site, and say something like that, so derogatory, against a man who lead the civil rights movement…..You dont even have a clue!!!! And everyone on this message board should be offended, You are less than a man!!!!
SECRIS YOU KNOW YOU ARE FULL OF IT!! IF YOU DONT AGREE WITH MY OPINIONS ITS NOT BY FORCE THAT YOU READ THEM SO GET OVER YOUR SORRY ASS SELF ONCE AGAIN AND SUCK IT UP.!!MORON.
Patrick,
One would think that you are a racist white man, with the negative rhetoric and commentary that you give on a daily basis….What person today, especially that of black descent could deny that without the voice, and leadership of Dr. King, none of us would be where we are today, and you are a black man, What on earth are you smoking!!!!! What do you gain by touting this illogical, stupid, and ignorant rhetoric????!!!
Clint, my dear friend and brother.
I am not casting aspersions on MLK. I absolutely admire MLK and sees him as the penultimate black American figure of the last four hundred years. I do not denounce any of his work, or successes that highly benefits me foru decades later.
However, evaluating the feasibility of a federal holiday is not racist or negative rhetoric.
Let’s balance our emotion with reason.
Patrick,
You being a black man, I wont say proud black man, but just a black man…You dont have the right or why would you evaluate the feasibility of a federal holiday for one of our great leaders of all time….???? What place do you have to do that, Are you evaluating George Washington’s Federal Holiday, or Veterans Day, or Presidents’ Day????? Why would you even question a day that is to commemorate the life of someone that changed the course of history, so that you would have a right to go anywhere you wanted to without being judged by skin color…..
OLOUNWA,
THAT WAS JUST THE TYPE OF IMMATURE EMOTIONAL OUTBURST THAT I’VE COME TO EXPECT FROM THE LIKES OF YOU! BUT ANYWAY YOU NEVER ANSWERED MY QUESTIONS:
Are you equally active in your own country’s matters? you have much criticiam and strong opinions on black america. what are you doing about the senseless slaughtering of black africans by black africans in YOUR country, the serious political issues, the raping of girls and women, the butchering of men and boys in the villages. what are you doing about the starving babies, unsafe living conditions, lack of clean drinking water and extremely high HIV/AIDS rates? it would seem to me that you have enough problems in your own country to deal with!!!
Alex, great posts and you are wasting your time with this bunch….they are harden to the left and the democrat party like the fighters for al quadi, and hamas. They dont care about person black unless he/she is a liberal or democract ie; Justice thomas, Dr. Rice, Gen Powell, M Steele, Ken Blackwell, and many more that happen to be a republican or conservative.
Many are rantting about Mccain not voting for a freakin holiday, but are muzzled about a former klansman who led the deomocrat party in the senate, and still is a high ranking member.
The facts are as you stated, one MUST vote based on whats important to their family FIRST, then everything else. Why in the hell, do these wanna bees act like they are more black b/c they are liberals. Heck, all blacks DO NOT subscribe to this all government all the time crap of the left. Vote based on the issues, and let the bs go.
For the its all about black voters: I must assume you are voting for obama’s wife since the guy grew up between kansas with his white mother, and hawaii with his white grand-parents. The only thing black about the guy was his daddy whom he didnt live with.
Ok….white kansas, white hawaii, white colleges, meets a black lady, moves to Chi-town as an adult after stating in his book how he struggled with his identity, now he annointed the black saviour. This is why Al, Jessie, and many prominent blacks have been pretty silent. Folks here make more of him being black than he does….matter of fact, I have yet to hear the guy embrace anything black….oh I forgot, he was a community organizer on the southside……lol. Talk about being hoodwinked and bamboozled.
The Facts:
Save the condescension for those who need it. Senator Obama is NOT the black savior and being democrat and liberal doesn’t make me stupid or lazy. Just because some black people are voting for reasons other than what you believe in doesn’t make them wrong. You vote your way and let me vote mine. It amazes me that you so-called informed and politically savvy Negros spend soooo much time and energy on BET blogs insulting and ridiculing voters that you disagree with. Does anyone spend time making sure that the white folks are voting for the right person, for the right reason?
Thank you Donald,
I could not have said it better myself, !!!! lol!!!
Clint, I am proud of my black heritage.
For yor information as a conservative Republican desiring a more efficient government, I have evaluated the feasibility of all federal holidays.
My dear friend, Clint, have you ever questioned how much money is lost because a federal holiday?
Labor Day, Columbus Day, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Lee-Jackson-Day, MLK Day, etc.
I have always wondered why we need all these federal holidays?
Do we honor MLK, Washington, Jefferson, Columbus, etc. by letting government bureaucrats take a day off at the taxpayers’ expense?
We certainly do not.
Excuse me, Lee-Jackson Day is not a federal holiday but one of those state holidays here in Virginia that I am inclined to believe is a waste of tax-payers’s money.
Patrick,
Obviously you are not proud of your black heritage, You have not evaluated the feasibility of all the holidays, be real, you only questioned MLK holiday on this message board, that’s why we are having this discussion….dont be a hypocrite!!
And why in the heck must you reiterate on every post that you are a conservative Republican, I guess you have to keep reminding your self, because you cant believe it either….We know that you are a Republican, OMG!!!!
And who gives a crap about how many federal holidays we have, I dont think we have enough, quite frankly, And then you are so against honoring Greats like MLK, Columbus, and etc., and worrying about taxpayers expenses, but you are not so worried about this pocket wrenching war that we are in!!!! Marinate on that!!!! How hypocritical is that??????
The Facts,
lol!!! It really amazes me that so many people like you are really in a state of shock, because you haven’t seen a man like Obama before, not your typical BLACK politician, you cant take the fact that this man appeals to the WORLD, and not just black folks alike,,,,,You cant take it….No he is not an Al Sharpton, or Jesse Jackson, those days are gone, this man is highly intelligent, and just because he went to the most prestigous university in the country, and not an hbcu, and the fact that his grandparents were white, that disqualifies him from the black community, please give me a black, Obama is as black as Patrick N. Washington!!!!!
typo,,,,,please give me a break not black….lol!!
Patrick N. Washington is a BLACK MAN???
Of my god!!!
Timothy,
Can You believe it???? He says it on every message blog, that he is a “black conservative Republican” I seriously would have thought he was white, unless he said something……….There’s got to be a racist white man trapped inside!!!!!
clint:
Do you suspect, as I do, that this is a chronic case of “the gentlemen “doth protest too much”? Humph, I’m almost certain that somewhere not so deep down inside of Patrick is an authentic klans men trying desparately to escape!!!
My dear friends and brothers, I do not see nothing wrong with declaring my political allegiances. I appreciate being a conservative Republican.
Clint, this is for your sake. I have, do, and always will question the cost of all federal holidays no matter who is being honored.
Timothy, I do appreciate in your ad hominem attack that you referred to me as a gentleman.
As a gentleman, I do not have to resort to ad hominem attacks.
Patrick,
Your use of the academic term ad hominem (a personal attack used when an opponent is unable to find legitimate fault with an argument) was cute but not accurate. I do find fault with some of your views, but not all. Good to see that you have a sense of humor and that you are educated as well (even though you are a black conservative republican). LOL.
