Republicans Scale Back Party Plans

(ST. PAUL, MINN.) Sept. 1, 2008 –Sen. John McCain has called for convention plans to be scaled down, citing Hurricane Gustav’s potential to inflict “a great national disaster” on the people in the region.
“This is a time when we have to do away with our party politics and we have to act as Americans,” McCain said, via satellite from St. Louis.
While the convention, which convenes here today, will be called to order, Republican leaders will conduct only the business needed to start nominating the party’s presidential candidate, Mike Duncan, chairman of the Republican National Committee, told reporters Sunday. On Monday, the convention will kick off around 3 p.m., address only required “business duties” and adjourn around 5:30 p.m.
The list of cancellations by speakers and attendees from the region continued throughout the day. Duncan said his party will take convention planning day by day. A daily briefing will be held to update the media and convention participants of the new less-ambitious schedule.
McCain urged Americans to “open our hearts, our efforts, our wallets,” to those in harm’s way. The Republicans have also decided to turn most social events at the convention into fundraisers, earmarking the proceeds to folks displaced by the hurricane.

Patrick,
stop riding McCain’s @@$%!!!!!!! You know nothing about Palin, and America doesnt either!!!!! And you conservatives preach morality, This woman Palin cant even guide her own house, How in the world can she be a heartbeat away from the Presidency????
She has too much baggage!!! What else dont we know!!!!! Admit it, Patrick, You know nothing about this woman, except what Fox News/O’rReilly has been telling you!!!! This woman is a huge mistake., and it displays McCain’s feeble and weak judgment, It shows that he is kneejerk in all of his judment making decisions, The biggest decision of his could be Presidency and he chooses this woman, and he knew that this girl was pregnant and Palin knew too, Now why in the heck would she subject her daughter to go through the scrutiny she is going thru right now, Palin should resign!!!!! And she should not accept the nomination for Vice PResident!!!!
Palin carries too much baggage!!!!! What a bad call McCain!!!

please do some valid research, gov Palin was for the bridge to nowhere from the start, she obtained waaay too much money for a town with a population of,get this 5,005. But the biggest story will be the Gov. trying too get her brother in law fired in the middle of a messy divorce from her sister.Old wrinkled white haired guy just shot himself in the foot.By the way,the report will be released on Oct.31,four days before the election.TRICK OR TREAT !!!
“she obtained waaay too much money for a town with a population of,get this 5,005.”
Isn’t that what a good local official does? She helped her community did she not? And when she became govener she sent checks to the people from money made off of the oil revenue tax.
Todd
For someone who is supposed too be a fiscal conservative explain how that is what she is supposed too do.Can’t have it both ways.By the way the money each Alaska resident receives started when she was in beauty contest.
Clint
Noway should she step down, she is good for the democrats.I just hope she hangs in there until Oct.31.
How come no one has looked into Sarah Palins connection to the AIP separatest group?
Arthur Calender
AIP was mentioned on MSNBC today. The site says that Alaska Independence Party mission is to seek a vote on whether Alaska should succed from the U.S. Is that what the Confederates States of America wanted too do ? MSNBC also mentioned Gov. Palin’s husband was arrested on a DUI charge 22 years ago, which to me as a non issue.I think with this after “vetting” info. has come out we will be hearing much more.
jfffnn, Trick or Treat!!!! Wow, THe Democrats are having another great week, this week at the expense of the Republicans,,,,lol!!!!

Wake up! McCain is doing a great job of misleading, cheating, and lieing. McCain has a series of misfortunate events.
You blame the Democrats for attacking Sarah Palin’s family. Newsflash – Obama Says Palin’s Family Is Off-Limits.
I don’t beleive that you believe McCain is the man to run our country. Look at his track record, it says it all. If this is the kind of man that you believe in, then, I would have to question you.
PBrown,
Newsflash—This is the man Patrick believes in, and loves, for what reason I do not know…..I think Patrick got kicked off of Obama’s campaign, and he hates Obama for some reason….lol!!!!
And Patrick is woke, You are wasting your time….Me and jfffnn try on a daily basis, but it fails.,
Patrick sounds like a much older ~%*@, used to shuffling along behind his master. He don’t want too much fuss or too much commotion just a pat on the head by the traditional masters. But when approached by his own kind about putting an end to slaver he tends to bristle up to protect the good name of the nice white man that ownes his soul. Pitiful, pitiful Patrick.
And Patrick all your talk about abortions, do you have a womb that you’re keeping secret?
clint
It’s like that! Wow, gee, What!!!
John McCain has served his country very well.
We need to cut taxes.
We need someone that is dedicated to protect the life of the unborn.
Palin was the right choice for the Republican party in 2008.
McCain-Palin 2008!!!
Watching that convention on last night was like watching paint dry….So very boring., It looked like a big klan rally, if you ask me!!!!
They had a few blacks there, and they looked like they were lost!!!!!
Did anyone notice when they were doing the tribute and showing the highlights of Great Americans, Well, they showed Ronald Reagan, very loud applause, after that, they showed Rosa Parks, and MLK JR., very minimal to no applause, and then right after them, they show G HW Bush, and the crowd went ballistic!!!!!!

John McCain’s time has come and GONE!
America needs a CHANGE…not the SAME!
There are numerous reasons to VOTE against McCain:
McCain:
voted against minimum wage increase.
voted against gay rights.
wants to prolong the senseless war in Iraq.
has no clue about working class needs (gas prices, health insurance, mortgages, economic nightmare).
mirrors the current administrations stand on the major issues.
Against equal pay for equal work.
Against affirmative action.
Want to Cut corporate income taxes.
Against helping homeowners in foreclosure
Voted NO on spending $448B of tax cut on education & debt reduction.
Voted NO on national education standards.
Voted NO on reducing oil usage by 40% by 2025
Voted NO on killing a bill for trade sanctions if China sells weapons
Opposes restrictions on assault weapons and ammunition types
Voted NO on background checks at gun shows
NO on including prescription drugs under Medicare.
Vote based on character, not issues
Voted NO on restricting business with entities linked to terrorism
Voted NO on limiting soldiers’ deployment to 12 months
VOTE OBAMA/BIDEN IN 08 OR RISK MORE OF THE SAME!
seschris, atleast McCain actually voted Yes or No.
Obama voted present over 130 times.
A president must make decisions instead of just being present.
Character is important. I like John McCain’s character to stand and fight for this country.
Stop the endless welfare state. Obamanomics will decimate the wealthy to expand the welfare state.
McCain-Palin 2008!!!
Country First!!!
Patrick,
I am not for a welfare state either, neither am I in favor of living in a country where there are two very stark contrasts; VERY RICH AND VERY POOR. That’s what the republican party means to me. The majority of the US falls in the middle; so where does that leave us? McCain’s character flaws go way back and bully mentality in Iraq does not impress me as to his foreign policy skills.
Bully?
Being passive, Ahmadinejad and other despots will walk all over Obama.
Unfortunately, the Obamacrats think that we could just sit down and talk to our enemies and that will magicly stop them from trying to destroy us.
Are you Obamacrats really thinking or just dreaming up some magical world where there is no dangerous people out there?
The thing is I really feel that the Obamacrats hate President Bush more than Ahmadinejad, Chavez, and Kim Jong-Il.
I hope that feeling is wrong.
Patrick,
Obama is not passive. He’s smart and doesn’t let emotion or sensationalist nonsense dictate his position. Weapons of Mass Destruction; that no one can find! LOL!! The art of negotiation is NOT forcing your views on others; contrarily we need to learn what they want and weigh that against what is best for our country and negotiate back and forth so that neither side comes away from the table feeling RAPED! That is the only way that our foreign relations will improve and Obama knows this. When honest negotiations don’t succeed; then Obama will take stronger measures to protect America. The republican way has not worked instead it has put us in a very vulnerable position. War is the last resort. America can not continue to BULLY other countries and expect to remain on top. Why are we in Iraq? And where the hell is Osama bin Laden??? Why did we go after Sadam Hussein when Osama bin Laden was the true enemy? Obama hates no one; he just knows how to deal with dangerous and difficult people while protecting the integrity and the SAFETY of America. We need a serious change in that area; more of the same will destroy America. All of Bush’s tough talk (which McCain mimics) and terrible decisions has gotten America into a very bad place which we won’t easily get out of!
Patrick, We do hate Bush, duh!!!!!! Unlike you, who adores the ground he walks on!!!!! Bush has put us through hell everyday for the past eight years, we deserve the right to hate the man, and rejoice when he gets his walking papers!!!!
