Gov. Sarah Palin addresses the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn. - Sept. 3, 2008 (AP)By Pamela Gentry, Senior Political Producer

(ST. PAUL, Minn.) Sept. 4, 2008 – Republicans made history Wednesday night when they nominated the oldest first-time presidential candidate in history, 72-year-old Sen. John McCain, and their party’s first woman vice presidential candidate, 44-year-old Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Delivering her speech in the national prime-time spotlight, Palin attacked her Democratic rivals as Washington insiders, out of touch and incapable of bringing about change. Palin promised that it would be she and McCain who would bring “real change” to Washington.

The fired-up crowd at the Xcell Center repeatedly interrupted Palin with cheers and uproarious standing ovations throughout her speech.

Palin, who has a special-needs son of her own, couched her party as the one that cares about such children, understands the difficulty of parenting a child out of wedlock and what it means to keep American safe amid the threats of global terrorism.

“Victory in Iraq is finally in sight; he wants to forfeit,” Palin said of Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama.

“Al-Qaida terrorists still plot to inflict catastrophic harm on America; he’s worried that someone won’t read them their rights.

“Government is too big; he wants to grow it.”

The crowd ate it up.

But while the speech was relentless in its assault on Obama, it offered little in the way of what a Republican administration would do to define the difference.

Palin’s speech was one of  two highlights for the relatively lackluster convention so far. Delegates also lined up for a roll call of the states to nominate their  presidential pick Arizona senator McCain.

As Palin spoke, network cameras seemed transfixed  on the vice presidential candidate’s 17-year-old, unmarried, pregnant daughter, Bristol, who held hands with her 18-year-old boyfriend, Levi Johnson.  Johnson the self-proclaimed “red-neck” hockey player, looked tense and uncomfortable throughout the speech.

“Our family has the same ups and downs as any other, the same challenges and the same joys,” Palin said, after introducing her family.

She saved the barbs for Obama. “In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers, and then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change,” she said.

While her speech was filled with tough talk and delivered well to a friendly crowd, the next test will be her first encounter with the national press corps and her first debate with Democratic vice presidential nominee Sen. Joe Biden.

Put McCain and Palin together and they still don’t have half the integrity and just plain “do-right” of Senator Barack Obama. Obama/Biden are for ALL the people, those 2 clowns are only for certain people.

Carlene do you realize most of White America will vote for McCain because he is white. We have White Americans (mostly young white america) that has realized its not about the color of the skin, its about not wanting to live through another 4 years like we have in the past. There is nothing with supporting your own people. This is one thing we can learn from White American, they are loyal to their race. They know BUSH was a F–k up, but they are still willing to suffer with a white man, than possibly overcome our pitfalls with a blackman leading us. We all know that Obama will not have all the answers, none of our elected officals did, but that’s why we pray together and support the right and hope that will will never ever experience what we have.
If feel sorry for you if you believe that Palin will do more for this country. You truly did not listen to her, or you clearly are not familar with her style and beliefs. My dear Carlene, go back and read up on these people. Learn your history Black and White History. Their Story and Ours, and I am sure you will reconsider. What do you think your ancestors would do?

I think that Gov. Palin’s speech was typical of a person who has nothing to really run on. None of the speakers, including her, mentioned any of the issues that are going on in America, such as the economy, jobs, mortgage crises, healthcare and so on. Why would they? If they did, they would show just how much Bush messed up this country, leading us into a war by placing fear in everybody’s mind. Obama has proven time and time again his concern and desire to CHANGE this country for the better. Anyone watiching DNC convention knows that. If you weren’t affected by that, then that really shows your ture character. I mean, if everything is going well for you and everyone that you know, then many the McSame Capaign speaks to you, but for those who are affected by the choices of this current President negatively and for those who have compassion on those who are truly struggling, Obama speaks to us and for us. We are not putting him up a “Saviour” for the people, we are seeing this man as the only one to get us back up to where we need to be to get closer to achieving the American dream. I am 23 years old, just graduated college and I am concerned for my future and those younger than me. I need someone in the White House who understands those of us who are tired of being cheated, abused and lied to and want someone with the right credentials to lead.

One last thing, you want someone who would represent America. Look at the RNC, most of them are white and male, few women and a whole lot of old white guys. THAT DOES NOT REPRESENT AMERICA. None of those looked me and how in the hell could I think that they could represent me. If I can’t relate to them, than why would I want them to make decisions for me. The DNC represented everyone. For all those who diss Obama and promote McCain, I ask you. Think about those who are doing worse of then you are think about yourself. Now which party do you feel would help that person to get to a place where they do not have to struggle like they have been or who can again believe the possibilty of obtainin the American dream. Which party cares about seeing people do better? Which party will not feel the need to erupt fear in us to win? Which party acknowledges the problems that many American face and can come up with the solutions to fix it? Which party stands up for America…all of America, not just the select few. It’s funny, people say Obama needs to be more specific about what he is going to do, which is silly because if you were to watch his interviews and view his rallies, he answers and explains everything. People always come up excuses not to like someone, just stick to who you want!

And another thing, people say the GOP reflects Christians values and the Democrats don’t. I am a child of the Most High God, and I do not beleive that is true. O.k., abortion is wrong and gay marriage is wrong. Got ya. BUT, killing innocent people without a direct cause is wrong, lying to achieve your own selfish purpose is wrong, leaving your fellow Americans to die in a drowning city is wrong, misusing American money is wrong or stealing it, not being concerned with those who have the least is wrong, helping only those that are wealthy is wrong, and killing innocent people by placing the death penalty into law when many innocent people are sent to prison is wrong. You can’t choose a party for those two issues, when everything thing else they stands for goes against Christian morals. You can talk the talk, but you must also do the walk. And besides people put Bush into office because of that, and its 2008 and he not done anything about it. Please don’t be fooled again and don’t risk putting in another President who doesn’t care about those whose last hope is in this election.

VOTE OBAMA – BIDEN 2008!!!!!

Lynn Swan wake up, what values did you hear come out of Palin’s mouth that you agreed with? I have never been excited about an election in my life, for the first time I see what is really going on in this country. Why people are loosing everything, high health cost, food, and housing. Jobs being shipped over seas. A war that almost 5 years later and of course Victory!!!! is still going on.

And we did all this under the guidence of the Republican party. You still don’t see a need for change?

Robyn Said on

Her speech was wack! Not once did she speak on the issues like education and healthcare. All she did was bash Obama. I can’t wait for the debates to start. Let’s see how this so called pit-bull with lipstick takes on the issues.

First let me say what we saw on stage last night was a JEZEEBEL SPIRIT, AND TRUST ME PEOPLE I KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT, sarah palin has a spirit of enticement, why do you think they chose her? wake up people this is warfare. we need to open our eye’s and see the full picture, did you see how those WHITE PEOPLE WERE CARRYING ON, sarah palin is being used as a DEVERSION.

BARACK is a very, smart man, he know’s about politic’s, when he first ran for office in chicago, he won over a black woman candidate, and let’s not forget he brought down HILLARY CLINTON, and oh, by the way we will be seeing hillary’s face in just a matter of time, now hillary may be a little angry at barack, but she, is not going to sit back and allow the DEMOCRATIC PARTY, TO LOSE THIS ELELCTION, AND DON’T FORGET NANCY POLOSI, BARACK OBAMA IS LOVED BY MANY, MANY, WOMEN, BLACK AND WHITE, WE LOOK AT HIM AS BEING OUR SON, and PLEASE DON’T FORGET OPRAH WINFREY, and i can only imagine how angry MICHELLE OBAMA IS, I’M PREETY SURE SHE WANT;S TO GO AFTER MISS ANN, THAT IS SARAH PILAN. So i will sit back and watch, remember people SARAH PILAN CALLED BARACK OUT LAST NIGHT. AND HE HAS A RIGHT TO COME AFTER THIS WHITE GIRL WITH ALL THE AMMUNITION HE HAS.

I watched the RNC last night, I heard Palin speak for about 10 mins and then i turned the channel. Her speaking of what she did as a mayor is irrelevant….all she was trying to do was making it seem like she had some type of experience or qualifications to be VP, compared to Biden are you kidding me??? and taken cheap shots at Obama for what?? you are running for VP not president…not once did she take a shot at Biden… why? she needs to do her homework before trying to trash someone….trying to make Obama seem unexperience and not talk about the American People, lets me know she don’t know what she is talking about. Obama may be unexperience in “certain” areas but Bill Clinton was unexperience too! and he ran our country well!! so before getting on a stage to talk about yourself and belittle another opponent, make sure you have America’s best interest in hand…People talking bout Obama is only talking bout changes in America and that is it…but the think is YOU HAVE HEARD ABOUT THE CHANGES, YOU KNOW WHERE HE STAND, AND YOU KNOW WHAT HE IS TRYING TO DO FOR US THE PEOPLE…what changes that are positive has MCCain said? Matter Fact, after all the things Palin said last night, Did she once explain how she is planning to help healthcare, taxes, oil prices, etc. Naw only thing she can tell you is what the AD says on TV, trying to hurt Obama. Let’s Be real!

Obama/Biden 08!

You don’t have to worry about any of this foolishness because God is in control. They put people of color down all they want to but in the end only thing that will matter is how you treated one another. Let them have millions of dollars and steal from the poor and so on but one day they will meet their God in judgement and then what?

Republicans were not affected by the mistakes of that idiot in the white house the past 8 years. This is a career move, political strategy if you will for them. They have not suffered as the working classes have. They are not desperate for change like we are. They only want to maintain the status quo: NO N I G G E R S in the White House. By any means necessary. Even if the country sinks into the ocean, even if we turn into a third world nation, even if our children are drafted into the war, even if people are fighting in the streets over gas. As long as the rich white people have are okay F U C K everybody else. THAT’S WHAT REPUBLICANS ARE ABOUT. IF IT DOESN‘T EFFECT THEM OR THEIR FAMILY THEY DON’T GIVE A F U C K. JUST LIKE WITH CRACK AND AIDS, REPUBLICANS DON’T CARE ABOUT IT UNTIL IT HITS THEIR HOUSE. THE REST OF THE COUNTRY CAN BE ON FIRE OR BE BLEEDING TO DEATH AND THEY DON’T CARE, AS LONG AS THEY ARE STILL OKAY.

Deneen Said on

People have been fighting dirty about Obama and he still shines. Palin didn’t talk about any issues that are going on or what changes she is planning on making. She won’t be much of a voice anyway in the White House. All she talked about was her fishing husband, special needs child/grandchild (who knows)and can’t remember. She didn’t speak of any importance and the bashing Obama is played out. I like the fact that he sticks to the topics so we can move forward. The negativity doesn’t faze me and Palin’s speech writer was the same one for Bush. I am not surprised and with those two in office we will definitely be doomed. We will become a nation of poverty, depression and crime if those two are elected.

Earl Said on

According to the New York Times, Palin was vetted TWO days before McCain announced it to the world. Meaning she was a LAST MINUTE CHOICE. And who is she to say that community leaders have no real duties. Community leaders work because they care. Not a word about economy, healthcare, gas prices, education, mortgages, etc… we got enough folks name calling and bullshyting, I want to know what that heffa gonna do for the country. My vote don’t come CHEAP!

Kendra Said on

WHY DID PALIN FOCUS HER VENOM ON OBAMA AND NOT EVEN MENTION BIDEN. WHY DOES SHE PUT HERSELF ON THAT LEVEL. IS THIS ANOTHER CALCULATED EFFORT BY THE GOP TODISRESPECT OBAMA/BIDEN? IS SHE RUNNING FOR VP OR PRESIDENT?
